Dragon Age II

No, I deliberately didn't. You're saying Bodan gave you more than 100 gold?

Yeah. I had 60-70 gold before paying him the 50 and I went to the Emporium after and before selling anything I had around 120. I wonder if it changes based on what you pick up in there. Whenever I got back to my second playthrough when I get there I'll see what I get from it.

Woot!

I just finished The Deep Roads quest. Three years have passed, and Bodan came running up to me and handed me my share of the riches: 50 gold coin! I'm rich...

So this is really the cheerleader and play by play of DA2 thread.

Only 19 more posts about how you killed another bloodmage/shade and you will reach a 100 posts praising DA2... What an accomplishment that will be. Is there an achievement for that? ;)

Dude don't say things like that, before we know it some hair brained developer will read that post and it will become a reality in their next title, achievement for tweeting 100 positive things about or game.

Spoiler:

The Deep roads is such a disappointment after you spend so long building up to it. You basically fly right through a very limited area. The good part of the Deep roads is the new / unique enemies - however that is it for the rest of the game.

2nd Spoiler: Deep roads 2:

WOW did they rush this game. Nathaniel from Awakening is lost in the Deep Roads. So I click the Deep roads button on my map, and POOF there I am in the Deep roads, with Nathaniel literally in the next room. Wow, he sure was "lost" alright. Further, this whole foray into the deep roads lasts for about 3 large rooms, with a fight at the end, then I'm out of the Deep Roads again. Maybe 5-10 minutes quest. Man, that sure feels epic...
3rd Spoiler - Just finished the game:

Ok, so I chose to help the mages throughout the game. Why in the fuck when I investigate the mages who are plotting against Meredith am I forced to kill them all? I basically sit there mute and then mow down the people I agree with. And in the final stages of the game, when I am supporting the mages, WHY AM I STILL PRIMARILY FIGHTING MAGES AND SPIRITS!? Why when I am supporting the mages does the First Enchanter decide to use some horrible blood magic, AFTER WE JUST KILLED every templar in the room?!?! It makes absolutely no sense. Here you have amazingly powerful mages and my ridiculously strong group, and the First Enchanter says, "We have no chance to win this fight, just run away and survive." Then, not only do we not run away, but we beat the crap out of every templar that comes after us. The fight was unsatisfying as well; super easy, although I'm playing on normal. There still should be some kind of difficulty ramp up, not just cruise control on normal.

The Meridith fight was kind of neat, and so was the surprise cameo appearance from Leiliana. Hopefully both the Champion and the Grey Warden team up for the next installment.

I'm upset, because even with this negative post I still really enjoyed the game. As soon as I beat my first runthrough as a mage on Normal, I created a new 2H warrior on Hard. Yet the constantly recycled areas and enemies, on top of an extremely thin plot, is bad.

Yes, I thought the ending fights and epilogue were major weaksauce. I'll elaborate later. Getting ready for a second playthrough.

Also, in non-spoiler text - Bioware, in the next game, STOP having every...single...bloody...encounter with a mage, ANY mage, turn into a fight with a demon. If I'm a mage and my companions are mages, and we're able to fight templars with just magic and no demons, they should be able to as well.

I liked Dragon Age Origins quite a bit, but this one has let me down alot. Mainly cause of the story and environments are so weak and bland. The only reason I'm still playing the game is the combat is pretty fun. Even better when your rogue is flying through enemies with no pants on.

Archer or dual wield?

Okay. In spoiler text I'll write out what bugged me about the game. Some pretty annoying things, especially the template maps that get used over and over and the lather-rinse-repeat encounters. SUCH a rush job. I'm both happy with the game and pissed at Bioware.

Spoilage:
I chose to support Anders and back the Mages. Here's a little taste of how the pre-battle ending went.

Orsino (Mages): This is too much, Meredith. Stop this nonsense!
Meredith (Templars): Let me think about it. NO! Mages DIE!
Anders: This will shut you up (Anders wtfpwns the Chantry building. Where did he get this power?)
Everyone except Anders: Oh, SHIT!
Sebastian: BAWWWW, Elthina!
Me: Hmm...
Everyone: Anders needs to go.
Me: Anders, you should have trusted me.
Anders: *broods*
Sebastian: Wait a minute, you HELPED him?
Me: Oh, I should have mentioned that earlier.
*Fast Forward to me stabbing a still-brooding Anders in the back*
Party: Ok, we're good. Lead the way, Hawke!

And at that point I was scratching my head because Aveline and Fenris totally had my back when I chose to support the Circle. Every mage you deal with in this game is crazier than a cut cat. Speaking of which, my vote goes to Merril for most pointless character ever. Everything I did that was anti-evil magic caused her to throw a tantrum and her rivalry with me increased. If you try to make her happy, everyone ELSE basically gets pissed. This nerdy, shy, quasi-hot character doesn't seem to grasp the reality that she is being led along by a Demon. I kept expecting her head to rotate 360 degrees whereupon she would vomit pea soup.

And then, to make it all more weird, in her last personal quest you find out that the Dalish keeper was trying to protect her from some OTHER demon by letting it infest her instead of Merril. Then you need to kill the Keeper. Merril is sad. You leave the Demon cave, and are accosted by the tribe's best fighters. You end up killing them. Merril is sadder. To end the Magic retardedness rant, if you take her into Feynriel's head in the Sleep Terrors quest, she get's completely beguiled by a demon and turns on you. I had to kill her in Fade combat. She didn't get Tranquiled, but I got a small quest update to go to her house so she could apologize for a tiny friendship recovery.

Going back to the end fight, the game makes you think people are going to split up in the same fashion as Mass Effect 2, but that feeling falls flat on its ass when you see the three people you choose to control, right there in the courtyard with everyone else as a non-controllable NPC. There is no splitup, no real choices, no desperation or tactics to the first showdown. Major disappointment. After the first battle where you pretty much fight the equivalent of a pickup hackey-sack team of Templars, First Enchanter Orsino completely throws in the towel. So let me get this straight, he fights Meredith tooth and nail and begs you to join him, then after a quick scrimmage battle he goes all emo. He actually uses blood magic to turn himself into a fleshy abomination and YOU have to kill him. What - the - Fudge. He vehemently denied that all mages were demon worshipping bleeders, then when the heat gets turned up he starts slitting his wrists. I can picture the voice actor for Orsino reading over his script lines and rolling his eyes at the wimpsauce plot twist.

Last, but not least. Meredith. I almost sided with her whole "I wish I had a choice" bullstein. She acts totally in control until the mages are all dead, and then you'd think she did PCP and pushups for a month. And what caused her behavior? She was driven crazy by a lyrium sword that had to do with the very artifact that I myself recovered in the Deep Roads? Holy crap, I know that Bartrand stole it and lost it, but this plot twist was one of the worst cases of grabbing at straws as well as being a total cop out for explaining her behavior.

/Endrant

Does anyone know if any of what I just bawled about is changeable? As in, did I just choose the wrong dialog? I'm pretty sure the Orsino blood magic thing is not changeable. I played that part twice and each dialog option I picked led to the same outcome.

Riddleofsteel, you had the same reaction I did to that endgame part with the...change. Not only was it just bad, it made absolutely no sense and didn't fit in with what was going on in the game at that time.

Yeah. Just typing that out made me feel like shit, because I hate wasted potential - especially in talented developers.

EDIT for more spoilers:

After I put a hole in Anders' vital organs and finished the game, the epilogue narration by Varric says that Anders is still alive, and still with the champion. Um... okay. So I played the final battle out again and let him live, which made Sebastian SORELY wroth and he promised to come back with his bitches (a huge army). Great, but then when I beat the game with Anders being alive, the epilogue was exactly the same. If I had just seen the epilogue the first time after killing Anders I would have assumed that it was a cliffhanger ending. Now I just feel like it's a bug that doesn't take my actions into account. Anyone else?

Is it just me or did the story in DA2 have NOTHING at all to do with Dragon Age:Origins? For all I know they could have named it something else entirely and I wouldn't have noticed.

Am I the only one who can read the black text people are using for spoilers quite clearly? :p Maybe my monitor is too bright, lol.

I can read it clearly too.

Anyway I see no reason for even importing your save file for this game. The people I killed in origins end up coming back in this game. WTF?

I can read it, but the contrast is low enough that I don't read it accidentally, I really have to look and try to read it. But I suppose we could manually enter the color as #202020. That looks nearly invisible.

If I more than glance, but when I see black, I move on and I can't accidentally read it.

I think part of the problem is not wanting to actually spend resources on a second path, so pretty much nothing you do matters much.

Spoilers:

It doesn't even matter if you side with the Mages or the Templers, you end fighting as many mages either way (a few less Templars perhaps). No matter what you do, you fight both Orsino and Merideth.

This really is a story where you have no impact. Many of the idiots in your party cause most of the problems and there is nothing you can do to control them.

Am I the only one so frustrated with the stupidity that I found stabbing Anders really lame. I wanted to take the morons head off.

Honestly, this says more about you than it does Dragon Age 2.

Yeah, Flemeth seems a rather glaring retcon to me. I murdered her bitch ass back in Fereldan in the first game, but in this one, the Hawke gives some medallion to the Dalish in the Free Marches and she teleports there? Did she go back to Fereldan for my Warden to kill her there? Or did she (much more likely) live out her days in the Free Marches?

Did you pay any attention to the dialog that explains what Flemeth did? Its pretty clearly explained.

Yeah I felt they did a pretty good job with this although I could see how it would be easy to miss since they don't completely spell it out for you.

I dunno, felt like they spelled it all out pretty clearly to me. Though I suppose if people weren't actually paying attention or using their brain it could be missed.

Also - did anyone else really dislike the art direction with the darkspawn vs DA:O? I thought DA:O was more gritty and mean looking, whereas in DA2 they looked more like zombie ninjas and pretty stupid. Plus, much less variety even - talk about going backwards.

Everything about DAO looked like a generic LOTR "inspired" fantasy world. DA2 looks a lot more unique. The Harlocks don't look as good, but at least they don't look like something ripped out of LOTR.

DA2 darkspawn are just zombies now.

And the Harlocks (or is it Hurlock, whatever) were basically Urakai (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) in DAO. From one generic enemy to another. I don't recall running into Orks (Genlocks) in DA2.

I guess I don't care if they looked ripped out of LoTR; it never crossed my mind. They looked good before, deadish / demonish. Now they just look silly, in addition to getting rid of any differentiaon - hurlock, genlock, the commanders.

Uruk-hai, yes they were very very similar. I just can't stand zombies in games or movies anymore. They look pretty lame, with their spikey, triangle armor parts.

Thank you. Yeah they don't look great. Though by the time I got to the Deep Roads I was so glad to see something that wasn't a Blood Mage, Qunari, or random bandit that it didn't matter. I was wishing for more of them by the end of the game.

Lol, sad but true. As much as I disliked the way they portrayed them in DA2, I was hoping for much more of them!
