first and formost the desk is my wife's shes a pink fanatic. I just invaded the space for the build. Granted there may be a cheaper route of doing this but i wanted to play with a 2600k and this was a perfect opportunity to do that. Thats why i chose the 2600k

i wanted this to be a GPU build over a cpu folder. I plan on rotating GPU's out as needed.

i was going to wait till i got the psu and 2 460's in but since it has 3 of 4 cards in it and im putting it in production later tonight. i thought i would share now

This box is named "Chuck" it is dedicated to my grandfather Charles. He suffers from some major shit called Alzheimer's. Its getting bad. My grandmother is a very strong women and takes care of him. I dont know how she does it day in and day out. Im predicting he will either pass away in the next 2 years or my grandmother will have to put him in a nursing home. She refuses to do this till the very end.

This is my folding box dedicated to him. It is missing 2 video cars at the moment and has a replacement 470 in it now that will be swapped out later when my 2 other 460's come in and my larger power supply.

i will update benchmarks and stuff as i progress with it.

2600k 4.7ghz.
asus ws revolution
2x2gig gskill ripjaws 1600.
4x nvidia 460gtx. (currently has 2 460's and 1 470.)
1200 corsair psu (currently has corsair 750 powering the 3gpu's and the board)
40gb intel x25 ssd

Nice build!! Sorry about your grandfather :( How do you like the Corsair cpu cooler ? I have been hearing mixed reviews about it. Looking for something to replace my freezer 7 pro for my i5-2500k. :)

I have the H70 and love it 70c with a 920@4.0 1.4 vcore

Great build filter whats your total ppd? thought about waiting for the 560's?

still missing 1 gpu. i already had 2 460's so thats why im going that route. 12kppd for $180ish bucks i think is the best ppd per dollar.

I dont know PPD yest since im still getting her up and running. but i want to see what she does with a big adv while 4xgpu folding. Since there is a drought of them right now.

right now she's doing
2x460's are pulling 12.4kppd 1x 470 is pulling 13.7kppd and the SMP is pulling 15kppd. i think thats low but i could be wrong. i was hoping for 20kppd on smp units.

right now shes at 4.3ghz for the night. i had it at 4.7ghz but i had a HDD faliure so i went and picked up an SSD and havent o/c it back up yet to 4.7ghz.

Nice touch dedicating the boxen to your grandfather. My wife's grandmother had Alzheimer's and the last year was very taxing on the family. So "Grammy" is one of the people I think about when I fold.

Enjoy the new "D."

I sympathize with your dedication - I recently lost a grandparent to Alzheimers.
Hello, Chuck =)

Nice setup you got yourself there. I added a GTX470 to my folding equipment too today :)

PS: My grandfather had Alzheimer's too. I hear ya...

Glad to see she is up and running, even if not at full speed yet...The end of the month is coming ;)....

Everyone on this team has a story like yours, and while it is terribly sad, I am proud of this DC family...Competition aside, we all want thing, and that is a cure for natures terrible ills....

(I think the computer is a he)

Welcome Chuck, Looks like he should crunch some serious data.

I'm sorry to here about your grandfather.

Very nice hardware...great looking board, +1 for screen pics (makes me want SB even more)...and +100000 for dedicating/naming HW to/for someone....that's a great idea I've never thought of before, I may have to do that myself.

Nice setup!

I have to ask though, wouldn't PPD be about the same or only a little less if you got rid of the GPU's and turned on bigadv? Doesn't an OC'd 2600k at about 4.7-4.8 do about 49-50k PPD on bigadv? I'm not a Sandy Bridge owner but those seem to be about the numbers I've seen floating around the forum. If someone else knows more please correct me. I only bring it up because a CPU only setup would seem to make more sense from a power usage standpoint.

science usage stand point.

and im going to run bigadv with the gpu's and see what it does when the drought is over

but this box was built for science and not ppd. try to get as many wu done as possible in one box.

Sounds good to me :)

added wattage pic. @4.7gh and all cards o/c the 2 460's were at 851mhz and hte 470 was at 710

You running bigadv on this box as well, or strictly gpu?

will find out. i just pulled a big adv. going to see how it does with 3gpu clients right now.

worst case will be 4 gpu's and smp client.

Yeah, I thought I heard the sound of another mower start up right behind me. Now you've got even more mowing power to clip my a, oops, butt with. Well, I guess I deserve it, as I have mowed more than a few in my day. Fold on, I'll take the pain any day, why you ask? Cause we're the [H]ORDE! (crushes milk carton on forehead.)

dont feel to bad w.feather got the worse.

hoping in another month or 2 ill have a spot in the top 20.

Chuck likes to fold pink donuts!

I don't know, that's the first thing that came to my head.

Nice work Filter.

You'll probably get your best results running smp-7 to free up a CPU core to push your GPUs. That's the way I've been running my mixed boxen.

Fold on Chuck.

I am liking Chuck more and more. I think that he may be the #1 ppd single processor box we have when it is all said and done at around 75K - 80K ppd. He makes quite a nice little lawnmower... :)

I know, he's only 2 weeks from mowing me and I am nowhere nearer obtaining a 2nd CPU for my dually:rolleyes::mad:

havine some issues with SMp 7 and i think its why big adv and smp run slow times so some help would be appreciated.

if i set it to smp7 in F@H tracker and then set the affinity to the 7 threads i want. it doesnt touch the thread i uncheck but it pegs 5 threads out then 2 threads bounce between 55% and 80% never pegged with the last core unchecked.

so why are those 2 threads not pegged and bouncing like that. If i have it used all cores for smp it pegs them all. does this when using smp7. with or without gpu clients it still does this.

im using win 7 now

I have a rig that wants to get into that competition.

X5650
(2) GTX470

75,231 ppd with a 6900, 6801, and 6806 WUs

my 980x and 580gtx do about 79k- 84k right now

i still got a few bugs to work out with chuck.

just by getting rid of vista i have taken 19mins of my frame times with 6900units.

chuck is sitting about 74,531k right now with 1 gpu not installed. another 460 should put him about 86kppd

Is it the "Lian Li Pitstop T60 DIY Test Bench"? It looks very cool but I could not find a place that sells it. Google Shopping gives nothing. Where did you manage to find it?

i picked it up from frozen cpu. i'm pretty sure they dont sell them anymore now. i waited for a while then newegg deactivated them and went on a frenzy and found one at frozencpu. they had one left for a while then i went to order that one and it was gone.

Hope you find one there nice tech benches for cheap.

I mistakenly bought a couple of extra GTX460s thinking i would fold while SMPing with them, but they just suck up power and slow the SMP down enough that its not worth it, I was thinking of making a box just for those cards, can i get away with a core2 duo or something without losing out on the GPU performance?

i tried to limit the SR2 to "23" but WUs fail when i do that.

Yep, you should be able to run several GPU clients on a C2D. You could even run a classic client or two on the CPU if you want.

Defex I ran smp 22 on my Sr2 with no problems.

Another thought. Flecom is selling some good GPU box parts.

ok ill try smp22, it certainly did not like 23 :) Ill try that first, better than building a new box.

Hello Chuck...

so the 470 GPU by itself does more then double the 460's ?

very nice setup.

Fold on
