If you're a Tekzilla fan, you may be aware of the Set Top Box Megalist that Veronica Belmont created to share information about set top boxes, such as Boxee, WD Live, etc.

I've created a Tablet Megalist on Google Docs to share info about all the tablets out there. Check it out and add information if you have it. Share the link to anyone you think might benefit from it. I've recently gotten into the Tablet scene with the Viewsonic GTablet and couldn't find a megalist for the tablets, so I started one!

Please check it out and update any info you may have on the models I've listed. I found a LOT of tablets out there, some that may or may not be available in the US.

Feedback is welcome! I'm sure there's a few specs that I haven't thought of yet, along with a few pads that I haven't added.

I've been thinking bout getting one.. dunno why guess I'm just into the tech.

How do you like the Gtablet?

I've been wary about the touchscreens and how well the work. I've never seen one that works real good (which is why i stayed away from the touchscreen phone when I bought a new cell phone)
 
I tried a crappy 7" Quantaray tablet from Wolf Camera at first and promptly returned it. I then investigated the GTablet and found the XDA forum. The guys there are very active in modifying and improving the tablet. I bought one at Staples and have been using it ever since. Check out the link below and you'll see how the Gtab community really enjoys the tablet. I recommend it, but only if you're not afraid to try new roms as they're developed.

No love for Windows slates! When I get a chance I'll update it with the HP Slate and Libretto W100 specs.

I saw one of these on Black Friday at a Staples also and was this close to buying one and then 5 days my HP Slate arrived. Phew! Not that the GTab is a bad device but the fact that it got yanked off of Staples' shelves isn't the most reassuring thing either.
 
I've wondered, is the battery life similar to a laptop? I get about an hour or a little less out of that just surfing and such, I can't imagine if I was doing something a little more intense.

Do you find yourself looking to plug it in everywhere you go?



edit: sorry if its a basic question, i've only looked at them in passing so I hadn't researched about them fully. Just looked at peoples reviews and such on different sites

Well, the XDA forum now has a Viewsonic rep as a member, who posts with updates to the ROM and discusses issues with the users. I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that they're going to stand behind the tablet.

About the staples fiasco...the viewsonic rep said it was a big surprise to them and Staples had NOT notified them of the store returns before they did it. As it stands now, it looks like Viewsonic will update the tablets with the latest ROM and send them back to the stores. The original software was REALLY half-baked and really crash-prone. That's why everyone at the forum was rooting them to get them working right and getting the Marketplace and Flash working properly. Viewsonic seems to have learned their lesson and is pumping out new updates all the time.

As you can see from the info on the list so far, most tablets are saying around 8-10 hours of battery life, with the Dell Streak on the highside of 12-15 hours. They're comparable to netbooks and have way more battery life than the average, normal laptop. Also, turning off bluetooth and wifi helps any gadget to save battery life. I'd say the 8-10 hour battery life of the Gtablet is about right. I've played Angry Birds on mine for the last several nights, at about an hour each time, and it's just now down to 88% left.
 
One of the biggest differentiators (missing here) for me is screen type. I won't buy anything that has a crappy TN screen (like the Archos Tablets).

Better tablets have IPS/VA screens like the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab, Nook Color.

The Screen Type is on the 2nd row (A3). I originally intended it to be for the capacitive vs resistive screen type, but you could easily add TN, IPS, VA after capacitive/resistive. There are no set rules here. It's for everyone's benefit and anyone can add info and create new rows and/or columns. I've added a couple rows since I first put it up, because they keep adding features to the new tablets.

Ok. I changed the the current "screen type" field to "Touch Layer"
Above it I added "Screen Technology" and populated a couple of entries.
