10.12a Hotfix (Cayman, 5x1 portrait Eyefinity) is out!

Lol, I am sure they are, but there is still one sticky problem left.

We need those daisy chain displayport adapters if we wanna try cayman with 5 displays.

I have an eyefinity 6 5870, but I only have three monitors right now, so I cant test 5x1. My other problem is my 5870 is listed for sale on Ebay, and I just got my new 6990 now, so hopefully they release those adapters soon (fat chance lol)

I'm a bit confused. Haven't various groups/people been doing this with the 5870 for months and months? Like over a year? For example, this video here:

Is the difference that people won't have to use hacked drivers to do so? Is that the accomplishment/positive news? I'd personally be more excited to see PLP in a 3x1 setup.

EDIT: On a side note, I wonder if someday we'll see official support for 9x1 ;)

we probably wont ever see PLP supported. to many variations to deal with and to many game codes to change to support it. if they had a few hundred people working on the drivers then maybe but even nvidia doesnt support it and they have more then a few hundred people working on the drivers.

I don't really think it's that impossible anymore when you consider the insane performance given by setups like 6950CF, 6970CF or GTX580SLI. What I invision the easiest way to program is, is to simply render a 'box' thats 'larger' than the actual resolution of the monitors by using the max height, max width in resolution between each of the monitors in their respective orientations.

For example, if you have 1650x1050 potraits beside a 1920x1200 monitor. Vertically, you'd have a maximum of 1200. Honizontally, 1920 + 1650 + 1650.=5520. Render the imagine at 5520 x 1200 (aka render more than is necessary) and then cut off the unnecessary information when sending it to the monitor?

Sure, some people would say "But!! How can we ever afford to render at such a high megapixel as 6.6MP" but really its not any worse than 3x1920x1200 which works out to 6.9PM. Hopefully that little bit less of 0.3MP would give enough ...extra-time to cut the additional pixels and still get similar performance to 1920x1200. Right now, there are lots of people happy with the performance of eyefinity/nvidia surround at 3x1920x1200 with today's setups so it seems we'd have enough power to generate reasonable smoothness at 5520x1200.

Sure. Except "crossfire doesn't work" in that solution, you have to run in windowed mode. It is good to see its posssible with the drivers as they are. Really, ATI just needs to make it offical and modify it to do it full-screen so CF can work. It seems like getting PLP to work might be just like 100-200 hours of driver-team work hours as opposed to thousands.

Makes me wonder how many people they even have on the driver team... AMD needs to seriously do some hiring, their drivers feel like an afterthought, always.

What is so frustrating is that different machines can either have issues or not. For no known reason. 10.12, 10.10E, 10.8 etc ALL were hitchy, crashy drivers for me.

10.5, which gets very similar FPS, runs smooth. Runs smoother, same fps? wtf?

Yep. That is the way it is for me. No idea why except I do run Vista 64. No MLAA for me still. Not that I could use it at 4800X900 on a single 5870.

I'm with you... but not holding my breath

The AMD/ATI drivers have been getting to me more and more lately.

Time to go buy a 580?

I just purchased a 580 GTX last night for $499. Def worth the upgrade if you can get it. I loved my Crossfire 5870's. But the shitty driver issues have finally done me in...

I am really temped to sell my two 5850s and buy one 580

I was having so many issues with BC2 last night I about pulled the cards out and threw them.... I just reinstalled windows and 10.12 drivers... everything is as fresh as it could be and I got a black screen when I adjusted my settings,... I had to go to the .ini file to adjust my settings :( then when I got into a game/map, every now and again the screen would go black, couple seconds later it would come back, but always happened at a really bad time.

Maybe I should try the 10.5s like someone was saying, just really annoying. once the EVGAs come back into stock at Newegg I might be joining the 580 fan club

Is the monitor that was flashing hooked up to displayport?

There's a difference between hacked drivers and having to use a combination of softTH and eyefinity. Official support is a lot better than something like softTH for both performance and compatibility.

last number i remember was something like 20-30 people plus like 15-20 game testers something like that. nvidia has a couple hundred people including game testers.

its possible the numbers have increased since i last read about it.

the black screen happens on nvidia cards as well though its an annoying flicker instead of just a solid black screen if thats whats happening to you.. i get it all the time on my card.. annoying as hell and always at the wrong time. the one thing i noticed that causes it the most is if theres a bunch of smoke on the screen, say after a tank explodes in front of me.

D-DVI ;)

Displayports are junk on the 58xx cards I hear so I don't use it

DOH!

oh well guess I will just have to live with it... But you might try playing around with the settings.ini file...

Set:
Bloom to false
DXversion to 10

If you have a DX11 card then you can...

set: bloom to True and DXversion to 11

I did this but I will have issues, even though EA says that is what will fix that issue

Could give it a shot though

I'm a long suffering 5870 CFX user who is pretty fed up with the AMD driver shituation. But on a lark I decided to try 10.12.

And, holy shit, does it actually work properly with BC2 for the first time in history? Minimal stuttering, decent frames (on 5760x1200 eyefinity, no less) -- I'm speechless. Is my mind playing tricks on me or has anyone else had the same experience?

lol nice one, that's a nice xmas present for ya :D

Hmm, 5x1 portrait Eyefinity now? I'm going to have to upgrade my 3x 30" portrait setup to 5x 30" portrait. ;) So that would be a resolution of 8000x2560 or 20.5 mega-pixel. Hmm I don't think 2GB VRAM on the 6970's would be enough seeing as my 580's in SLI with 1.5GB barely squeek by at 4800x2560 @ 12.3 mega-pixel.

Never mind. I just remembered how many problems I had with Crossfire/Eyefinity and how SLI/Surround works much better.
