Even worth running SMP?

I've noted this on IRC a couple times, but is it even worth it for me to be running the SMP client? My machine is a Dell Precision m4400 with a C2D P8700. The PPD off of HFM is about 240 right now (granted, it's on a 6701), but I'm estimating that it's not going to be done on time because even if I ran 24/7 (which I don't because it's a laptop), it would take almost four days, and the WU has a three day window.

TPF is 55:20, and current ETA is about two and a half days, but it's a day till the deadline.

Should I just stop running SMP and switch back to the standard client?

when you setup your client did you have it go for small, normal or big WU's? You may want to try changing the flag to small, should help you get some WU's more in-line with what your system can handle. It worked for several of my smaller rigs so hopefully it'll work for you.

It's already set on small. I'm just going to start running two standard clients instead of SMP, since right now it looks like it'll give me about the same PPD, and should smooth out my graph a bit.

From what I've seen, PPD is always higher with SMP. However, if it's not a dedicated folder and you're worried about deadlines, run the standard clients. There's a ton of uniprocessor work out there.

It's not a dedicated folder, but this was still the first WU I've had any problems with on deadlines. the PPD I was getting off of SMP was fairly low because it was taking forever to finish them. Even if it gave say, 1k points, it might take almost five days to finish. I'll just be running two standard clients so I don't risk losing any WUs to deadlines.

I'd stick with the classic CPU client in this instance so you do not miss the shorter/less forgiving SMP deadlines.
Even if it was a dedicated folder I'd have this problem. From what I calculated, any time I pull a 6701, it is a wasted WU because the deadline in in fact, impossible for my machine (3 day deadline 4 days to complete if run 24/7). Even running it not as a dedicated folder, this was the first time I've had trouble with finishing an SMP WU.

If it were dedicated, I think you'd be able to hit the deadline. I have an e4400 that can make it....which is slower than your machine(I think). Granted it's not tons of points, but the current average is a little over 1k ppd on a 6701.

My HFM.NET shows that it has a 5 day deadline on a 6701, is this incorrect? I too also pulled one of these on my dual core athlon and it is crunching along slowly (hour a frame ughhh) and I thought I would be ok with the 5 day deadline.....

the small, normal, big WU's dont really effect the WU's you get.. but does cause problems for some WU's being uploaded..

The deadline is 5 days for those units. You should still be able to complete units within that time.

hmmmm mine was showing a 3 day from when it was downloaded

nah its 4.9 days for bonus points 6 days total for base point value..

all the others are 3 days for bonus 4 days for base point value..
