New Lian Li PC-V354 m.atx case : Specification & Feature

its roughly 65mm from the top of the case.

OK Yeah this is a bit tight :(

To be fair, in my diagram the PSU is too low, if I shift it up properly, and move the Mobo down so the hinge of the CPU is at 65mm from the top, there is about a 6mm overlap.

I guess the Noctua NH-D14 won't fit. Think I'll have to opt for the H50 instead.

I'll wait until my case arrives before I purchase any other parts. But my gut is saying there isn't enough space.

Guess I'll look into the H50 and H70 but I don't see them fitting in that 120mm spot at the back.

From my measuring I don't see it happening.... The Fan vents are so close to the edge of the case that there is no headroom for the Radiator on either of the models. Thats my guess.

I've done some more measuring regarding the NH-D14 (I can't let this baby go). By removing the 120mm fan and rotating the HeatSink so it's facing top to bottom (its asymmetrically designed), the PSU is very very close, but I'm unsure if its touching... If it is its by about 5mm at most... and the height of the D14 is then the issue... I'm considering just taking the leap and if its a problem sawing back the first 5-8 Fins in order to make it fit.

I think making the 2 front case fans exhausts.. and the top a 140mm Noctua intake and the rear a 120mm intake with the HSF blowing down should get a good flow going, especially if you use all that space behind the 3.5" bays for cabling.

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself, but I really hope that NH-D14 will fit, cause I'm certain the H50 and H70 will not. Failing those three I really don't know what to get for Overclocking purposes.

The Armageddon + Noctua Fans might work, but I fear its width and Ram clearance is then a problem.

If anyone knows how to remove Fins from the NH-D14 please lemmie know, don't really want to goto town on this with a Saw :)

Here's the Overlap I mentioned:

with just the little bit thats needed I wouldn't cut. I would just fold the fins upwards & call ita day. Then if you ever changed cases & that wouldn't be an issue you can fold them back (of course they wouldn't be as pretty as stock, but at-least they would be there)

@bastage

So you think you're pretty smart eh? Yeah good idea, wish I'd thought of it. Think thats what I'll try, I've contacted Noctua in the meantime to see if there is a way to unclip the fins from eachother (as it does appear that way from the one in my rig here.

I really like this case however

1. I think the positioning of the PSU could have been planned better (maybe put in the bottom front of the case?)

2. For a $150!! you could get a really nice mid-size tower ( I know your paying for a smaller well built case, but still cmon)

Wow, had a really helpful set of replies back from Noctua support regarding the D14.

The tech advised me that the fins are soldered onto the Heatpipes, so I could try and desolder them, but it'd be less-risky to just trim them.

Totally impressed with their customer service department.

I'm considering the U12P SE2 instead, I think it'll fit much simpler, the 2nd fan might beable to be mounted 1-2cm lower to fit under the PSU. Obviously won't have to worry about voiding my warranty then too.

I just really wanna try and get a 930 or 950 to arround 4.2ghz in this case... somehow!

All I've got to say is I love this case. It fits everything I have in my signature, and it has a dvd drive cover. I have been eyeing the SG03 then SG04 for the past 3 years, and never bought them because it was the size of case I wanted and it fit everything I had, but it felt too restricting/missing features (CPU cooler, SG03 had no ant-vib mechanisms and drive cover, SG04 at first had handle which i didnt like, still was cpu cooler restricting), so i just went with the cooler master elite 340 for the past couple years to hold me over to see if anything new came out. This case has everything I have wanted for a MATX and fits everything perfectly.

@xcrico
What kinda temps you running at? You keep the standard Case fans?

I'm replacing the 2 fronts for Noctua 120mm's and the top for a 140mm Noctua. Still hoping I'll get a i7 930 to about 4.2ghz or 3.8ghz worst case. Struggling to find a good HSF to fit the space thou. Just most of the all the parts, holding out on HSF RAM and CPU right now.

I plan to use this case for a WHS setup with 6 HDD, what should I get for cable management?

Thnx

Definitely a modular PSU and look for some good price short Rounded SATA cables. Should help with airflow and cabling.

I'm yet to evaluate the case's interior, however I suspect that the SATA cables can run behind the HDD Cages for tidiness.

man oh man, now i need to figure out what to put in it... and a way to "break" the shuttle to get permission ;)

Don't forget the Corsair h50/h70 now that it can fit without modding.

H50 can fit without modding? Maybe I missed some of this thread, but has someone confirmed this? Pics would be nice too :)

I thought i read the h70 wouldn't fit unless modded...

found it, post #161

Bad news gents. Looks like the 140mm fan is blocking the rear 120mm fan from an h70 installation...i just opened it up and will post pics later tonight of the build.

Ah damn.

I guess my only other idea is to remove one of the hdd cages so you can mount it on one of the 120mm fans.

Or maybe find an adapter to mount on the 140mm fan. Mhmm...

the HSF is about the only problem I'm having with this build....

From what I can tell the H50, H70, D14 all won't fit.. The Megahalems with single fan will, but I'd want Push/pull which won't fit...

Right now I'm thinking of modding the D14 to fit the case.

Has anyone actually tried the h50 in this case? I keep hearing comments like 'probably won't' or 'looks like it won't' but has anyone actually tried it to verify if it will or not? I'm really curious as to the actual facts of what does and doesn't work/fit into this case. I wish I had the spare cash to check it out myself but unfortunately not at this time.

I put h50 in the front of the case.I dont know if it will last or not.i had to put the video card in the second pci e slot.

I'd wondered if it'd fit in the front, but I couldn't find details on the lengths of the pipes.

Good work. I was intending to move the GFX to the 2nd PCIE16 slot anyways, to improve airflow. The H50 might be a viable choice after all.

Looks like you had to loose the lower HDD cage to get it in thou... its not gonna work for me I think.

@rwk623

I'm thinking about getting the 950 over the 930.... I got the 930 to 4.2ghz before, I see that you're running your 950 @ 4ghz.. What temps you getting under load with your H50, and whats your Mobo?

I have asus rampage gene III.I was running occt and intel burn test and hitting alomost 80 .While gaming, im in the mid 60's.

Nice, I figured at the very least the h50 could fit on that bottom fan, looks like space for push pull on the rad even, which my Sugo03 doesn't have. I went ahead and ordered and will post some pics too on what I manage to do with the case and h50. I'm thinking maybe even foregoing the 140mm fan at the top for a 120 and tossing the h50 there assuming there is space, not sure if anyone has tried that yet.

I asked about this a few pages back. Please let us know if that works. :)

@rwk623

thanks for the info, thats the same mobo I was hoping for, good to know your temps, I'd be happy with 4ghz @ 80. I'm thinking in that setup you'd definitely need the 120mm rear and 140mm rear as intakes.

@latindonis & @MissJ84
I'm doubtful about it fitting in that spot as there is very little space arround the fan vent to accomodate the H50 radiator.. I'll do some measuring tonight and get you guys some numbers.

anyone considered mounting the h50/70 to the rear 120mm opening & mount the fan on the outside of the case?

@bastage
I think the problem is the size of the radiator. Its Top and Bottom edge stick out beyond the point screwed in, so you'd need at least an inch above and below the vent screwpoint to get it to fit... Obviously rotating it 90 degrees woudl be an option, but the vent is already in a corner, so I don't think it'll work.

I can measure out the distances when I get home (I intend to) to see if I can get a H50 or D14 to fit.

yeah, thats the only thing I'm afraid of there, but going by these 2 pics:

It looks like the rad should have enough space height-wise, but might bump into the motherboard due to its width (25mm fan + h50 rad width) :(
(even then maybe a slim fan can prevent that)

@latinadonis
at second glance, I believe your right, the space looks like its there, perhaps the Mobo is gonna be the issue.

Think we need to start a HSF compatibility list on Wiki for this Badboy.

started writing a reply about H50 compatibility, but chrome crashed, so this is gonna be shorter.

Might fit if mounted sideways on the 120mm points on the top of the case. Doing this will get you an extra 1cm rise from the mobo (a total of about 3cm). Its possible that on a mobo like the Asus Rampage III Gene (which I intend to use), the H50 would stick out enough to obsruct the DIMM A2 slot. I've no way of knowing unfortunately. If it does fit, you might even get away with a Push/Pull Arrangement.

Still angling for the D14, gonna do some more measurements later.

Anyone have any experience with the "Armageddon" vs "Megahalems" vs "NH-D14"?

Pretty much confirmed the NH-D14 is a long way from fitting.... Just not gonna happen.

With or without the 140mm Fan, you can still fit a:
Megahalems with a single 120mm fan (facing top to bottom, fan on top).
NH-U12P SE2 with a single 120mm fan (facing top to bottom, fan on top).
(problem is, this is a double push senario [not very efficient])

The Armageddon is just narrow enough to allow for a Push/Pull Configuration with 2x 140mm fans, but I'm doubtful its better than the Megahalems with a single fan. Does anyone know anything about these? Or can someone suggest a better HeatSink with same sort of narrowness ~50mm?

Diagram of plan:
http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/953/pccasefit5armageddon.jpg
(Have ommited all Drives for neatness)

2x 120mm Noctuas on the Front (intake or exhaust)
1x 140mm Noctua on the Top (intake)
Armageddon HeatSink
2x 140mm Noctua on the Armageddon (pull then push downwards)
1x PSU [135mm fan] (sucking and exhausting)

1x Dual Slot GeForce 460 (in 2nd 16x slot)
1x WiFi card (in 4x Slot)

1x Corsair Force SSD
4x 7200rpm in RAID10 or 5
