So, he's obviously back from his vacation, but I don't think I've seen him post much here. Is it that I'm blind or just missed the threads he's in or is it that he just hasn't started posting yet? I'm curious cuz I remember he was making some killer ppd and was wondering if he's switched his farm around a bit. Maybe it's just me but I like knowing what other people are running lol, I'm the peeping neighbor of the folding community lol. Anyways, just wondering if he's started back on the forums yet

hope to see ya soon tiger!

(ignore if he's already posting and I'm just an r'tard)

I am new around here, but seeing the way people talk about him, and seeing the mind boggling contribution he has made, I might just call him sir rather than kitty! :)

It is a bit like movie box office numbers without accounting for inflation - his score was built the hard way before you could just buy an SR2 and mow.

Nah I haven't seen him post either. He's prob busy, no biggie. :)
He's hunting noob EVGA folders, he's hungry. :D

I hope hes eating peeps who are not folding....

/thinks for a moment

/realizes his machines havent folded in 3 weeks

/runs and hides!

every now and then you catch a glimpse of some stripes moving in the distance, but then they're gone.

makes you wonder if he's hunting something.

or hunting you

He's off sharpening his claws somewhere.....

ready to to sink them into EVGA :D:D

when they start bragging in a couple of weeks time :(:(

Well what I've heard about Tiger is that he like to be on top of the PPD list. I predicted in irc that his next post is going to be "So I just built 3 SR2 rigs..." I was imagining his PPD drop was because of how difficult it is becoming to run bigadv on 920's with the new work units.

Anyway I hope all is well with you Tiger. It would be nice to see your face around here again.

I would say quite the opposite is true. Running -bigadv is now easier than ever.

Yeah but IIRC he was on Gentoo or something on all of his rigs....and I don't remember if he had Win licenses or plans to get them.

If I remember correctly, he has a set amount of money he spends every year for upgrades.
He also has a kilowatt max usage each month that he stayes below.
I'm thinking he is researching/upgrading his systems to get max point per kilowatt.
I remember reading this somewhere. Maybe in his DCer of the month interview??

Found it!

How many boxen are running -BigAdv, and how much have you invested in new boxen for the BigAdv work units?
I've upgraded the farm from 6x Q6600 to 5x i7's, so the cost was about £3,500.

How does your costs of electricity effect your decisions to buy and build more folding boxen?
I limit my power usage to 3.5 kW, so any upgrade must increase my PpDpWatt figure. I'm thinking of dropping the GPU client and shifting to a pure bigadv farm on my next upgrade.

Running it, yes, but isn't there a WU that cuts the deadline very close to not making the bonus on i7's now? Its been a while since Ive played with bigadv...

2684 yes. depends on how high you're clocked

All of his rigs run 64 bit WinXP, with a custom Gentoo distro on VMs for the A2 bigadv. I think he just fired them all back up with the VMs still, so he is running regular A3s across the board.

P2684, but an overclocked i7 will have no trouble meeting the deadline, especially if it's a dedicated folder. The threshold is around 3.4GHz.

It could be that but I'd be surprised after all the time that elapsed since he restarted his farm. By now he should be aware about the issues of lower A3 performance in Linux and the fact -bigadv was removed. It would be better for him to discard Linux altogether and run Windows SMP even if he decided to avoid -bigadv. Unless he doesn't know.

If I remember he was running VMs

Maybe one of you guys who know him better can PM or email him and see what is up. I'd hate to see his systems going under-utilized if that is the case.

He has been online. He has been on the forum.

My guess, 1 of the 2.

1) Planning massive upgrade and he is only running the stuff he is keeping and wants to make a returning post with a bunch of points to back it up.

2) Is very very busy, and folding has taken a sidecar to life.

Hope it's the first..... Wish ya well Tiger.

Ok we know his upgrade funds and his kilowatt limmit. what would his best choice be? upgrade his i7's to 970's? if he using 1366 sockets

Lol, we love him so much here instead of fantasy football we play fantasy tiger upgrade paths lol
