Computer finalized! "For the [H]orde" Boxen Giveaway!

What kind of juice though....it's hard to get temps that high on low juice so obviously you're pushing some juice through the cpu. I'm curious as to what your settings are especially your Vcc and Vtt since I always thought you were one of the guys telling everyone to keep their oc's just a tad below the curve when running f@h for longevity's sake. :) (I could be wrong though)

I would assume 80+c loads for extended periods of time (ie f@h) would do just as much if not more damage than unsafe volts.

See, this is why I've tried to get everyone running i7s to put all their specs in one spot so we can have a compendum for sanity's sake (I'm sure I'm not the only one worrying about this). :D I have a general idea of unsafe volts and unsafe temps but when you add folding into the equation and you're dealing with full loads for days at a time running bigadv, it's like all bets are off. Or are they?

OT nice job on the cable mgmt, g. ;)
I'm running about 1.3V for both Vcore and VTT. My temps are high because I have a somewhat high ambient temperature (usually about 27-30C).

have folded at 100*C many times before, the i7 920 is a tank of a chip :p

Nope, I'm informed.

I dunno man........

My i7 was easily running in the low-mid 80's back before I decided to have everything moved over to the HAF922 from the Coolermaster Cavalier that it was in. Now everything runs no higher than the mid-upper 60's.

I guess i'm not a fan of trying to run every processor to its redline. Temps like that always make me uncomfortable even though I know the i7's are built to handle it. When I resell it one day, I don't want to sell someone a used cpu that I ran ragged for 2-3 years straight.

He's absolutely right about ambient temps though....he's definitely running in the conservative/very safe range on volts. I have the same issues at my house...high ambients (being summer). Tuesday's going to be the worst day of the week for us, forecast high is right at 100f which will probably put my ambient around 80f which equals 27c which is [other] ;) Zero's ambient

lol it was a cold 78 degrees here.. tomorrow it will be in the 90's.. temp changes are driving me nuts here though..

I'm hardly redlining my CPU. 90C is well within safe limits. I have a 10 degree margin before the thermal throttling kicks in, and since my temperatures basically depend only on my ambient temperature, unless that goes up by 10 degrees (which will not happen), there's no chance of my CPU getting up there.
[other] ;) Zero's
Hey, you're the "other" zero. I was here first :p.

Thanks! There is nothing in the way of the air flow!
This thing will be a cool beast!
I plan is to test the hell out it for -bigadv!
I want to get a nice 3.7Ghz+ for shipping.
Let the new owner go from there!

ghanakis, its looking great ;).....love the wire management, tried with the same PSU on the same case, and dam it is a pain(was for me atleast).......looking very good.....makes me feel some shame on my case wiring right now...

I had that c0 up to 3.8 so you should have no problem.

I also have the Corsar H50 fans blowing air out of the case. It is recommended to blow in, but I'm with Kyle on this one.
Blowing warm air into the case seems silly.
If I where using a Antec Two Thousand Two case, maybe.

Just waiting on the Windows 7 Home Premium disk to arrive!
Then we'll have some numbers!

I am not getting this totally.
If you fold is this an entry to a drawing for the system?
Alternatively, is the top folder the one who wins the system?

Would this compo be open to someone in NZ, been thinking of starting to fold for a long time now (was just worried about the power bills) but this could galvanize me into action.

Also how many ppd could a C2d E8400 at 3.33 with 5850 and a C2D E7400 with 8600GT provide.

The machine will be given away. You have to fold in order to qualify for the contest. Depending on when you sign up, you will have to produce a certain amount of points before the end of the contest to still be eligible. If you want to enter, you have to post in the sign up thread.

Is it possible to get to 1 million points in this small period of time ? I have Phenom II 955 and 5770. I am folding under the name Supertag

I would recommend against folding with your 5770. Right now, the GPU client isn't optimized very well for ATI cards and your production will completely suck compared to your power draw. There is also a "hack" some people use, but it will also steal away way too many cpu cycles otherwise.

Just to give you a baseline, my gaming rig with the P2 [email protected] with DDR-1600 CL9 memory was putting out 7000-8000 points per day doing nothing but folding full time 24/7. I took it offline as the powerdraw isn't worth it with those two video cards idling away.

I mean I will honestly need about 13k points a day ... which I don't think I can do...

the phenom II 955 if overclocked to 3.8ghz should get roughly between 7-9k PPD.. the 5770 get roughly 2800-3000 PPD.. if you have an old nvidia card(8 series or higher) laying around.. throw it in there to fold with.. the 8600GTS gets the same or more PPD then a 5770.. a 8800GT gets double the PPD a 5770 gets.. wish they would hurry the hell up with the new ati client already..

Even if you cannot qualify for entry into this drawing, there are likely going to be more giveaway rigs in the future. The other thing is that many of us started for a cause that we believe in, which is why you see so many people here who spend significant amounts of their money to fold. Whether big or small, this is a team that values everyone no matter what they can contribute.

as a baseline to those who want to know what points can be obtained with a machine

mine in my sig is doing roughly 13k points a day....

hoping to throw a Q9450 with a 9800GTX into the mix in the next month or so :p For the [H]orde

I'm in! Was folding for the [H]orde anyway, this just gives me a good reason to make sure it's running! :)

I have a question, is this 24/7 or so many hours a day? and can I fold with my PS3? or maybe do a mixture with PS3 and PC?

It's as many hours a day as you want as long as you have a relatively consistent points output and you meet the requirements for your sign-up period. You can fold with your PS3, but it will not produce enough points by itself before the end of the contest to qualify you for the draw.

glad to see the shout out on the front page today

Price the parts on Nov 1 when you give it away and see if its $1,300.
The cost of the components is really insignificant . A complete computer was put together out of donations from the community and is being given away for free. What difference does it make if it's worth $1000 or $1300?

Everything is up and running!

I've been running a3 SMP for a day or two to make sure things are running good at stock speeds.

After 10 minutes of folding temps are in the high 50's

Time to research the bios setting for this thing!

Haven't O/Ced in a American Megatrends bios forever!!!!

Wow, those are scary temps! I'm' such a wuss that I keep folding1 clocked at only 3.46ghz just to keep temps in the mid 60's. How much vcore are you running out of curiosity? My 3.46ghz is at 1.2685volts which is pretty good considering that 1.25 or something like that is stock.

Where still in the beta phases here!
I'm trying to workout a few of issues!
Not getting good contact between the CPU and cooler.
Stock Corsair fans suck!! Even in a push/pull setup.
I'll have her as a RC canadate soon enough.

haha let me show you what a clogged H50 does, and I had been folding at these temps for almost a week, till I cleaned it out

i wish my corsair ran in the 70's. maybe some lapping and some better fans.

I don't know how you make deadline. 70s are fine. 80s, eh, I'd be a little worried but still probably ok (if we're talking 80-85). 85+ I would not go there myself personally, I would downclock, box fan it, or buy a new cooler.
