** A Picture I Took - 2010 **

Yeah that is definitely close! I can't get 1:1 with anything I have, somewhere around 80% life size if I remember right. Do you have a picture from the front?

We had some big storms go through Minnesota yesterday. Where I live didn't get hit with anything too bad -- just some high winds. Once the storms left the sunset was really crazy with the entire sky turning orangeish with really unusual cloud formations. It was bright enough that everything had an orange tint.

I tried to get a couple from the front today, but the spider is pretty camera shy. Did have two victims in the web today though.

Not the greatest shots..

Roliath, that is a nice first moon shot using your equipment. When I took my first one I was surprised at how quick of a shutter speed I needed.

KodiakStar, I like the 2nd image of the spider. Are you cropping the images, or is that everything you are seeing in the camera?

SilverMK3, like the shot. Couldn't find any linear gamma adjustments in my raw program (Capture NX2). I do understand what linear gamma is though, and it is interesting to see how much extra information raw files have in the highlights vs. the shadow and how cameras are better at light vs dark when compared to our eyes.

BB Gun, you had a great location to take the photo. Looks a little dark on my monitor. This might be a perfect candidate for a square crop.

Filter, nice panning shot. I like the crop you chose. Do you have any pictures where the drivers are coming towards you and not leaving?

Here are a few from today:

Thanks MN Scout, yeah I'm definitely going to start clicking that checkbox every time I edit a difficult image just to see how much more detail I can squeeze out. On the shot above, the ocean and sky weren't nearly as interesting as they were after the linear gamma processing.

I love the upside down gnome, especially the fact that he's holding his hat, is this part of a hanging planter or something?

Here's my wife, 37wks pregnant, tired but content after her last day at work. I used the dodge tool in photoshop for the first time ever to remove some foliage shadows from her face and to brighten up the tree she's leaning against.

first attempt at shooting at night. d90, 55-200vr

On my first attmept at shooting the moon I wasn't happy. I couldn't get the auto focus to properly focus so on my second attempt I manually focused and took about two dozen photos adjusting the focus each time. I got maybe two or three worth keeping. This one was taken with my Canon Kit lens 55-250.
I used a tripod and underexposed by about two stops. Remember on a tripod you wanna turn off image stabilization.

Cabn12 I like the look of your moon shot. Your method and any adjustments in post you made to it worked well.

taken at like 2am, 30second exposure
How could I clean up the moon? Remove it altogether?

If the moon had a sun star effect would you consider that more cleaned up? That is what I'd probably go for, and you can get it by closing down your aperture. Looking at the image exif data, you shot that picture at f/5.6. Try F/10 and go from there. Then you'll need to use a longer exposure or raise your ISO.

I do have a few shots from f10, i'll give what you said a shot on saturday.
Thanks

Went for a walk along the beach today and took a few scenery shots when I noticed an opportunity for an unusual maternity photo (check out the shadow).

Canon XTI attached to my Meade 70mm/700mm cheap-o telescope. I really liked that I could take photos during the day. There was a little adjustment curve shooting with no adjustable aperture and manual focus, but fun times!
