Why is this so big? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ImageG...20CB-DP0062-S1 the other side of the adapter (The displayport) I thought it was supposed to be some tiny thing (like the one that comes in the box with 5970) so u plug this adapter (the one I linked above) into the card (but its a minidisplay port or whatever the hell it is) and the other side of it should be the HDMi output thing so I put the HDMI HDMi cable into the adapter and the other side into the monitor ;x am I thinking wrong or this is just the wrong adapter for me?

I made a picture check this:

minidisplay output (or whatever name) - http://img404.imageshack.us/i/img0003wn.jpg/

http://img571.imageshack.us/i/img0004p.jpg/

do I even need to use this?

meanwhile, I found some goodies is this what I need? please tell me that its the right thing even if its a lie! LMAO... so sick of this.. anyway check this page and especially this! http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?ur...o+hdmi&x=0&y=0

I think I need this - http://www.amazon.com/Kanex-iAdapt-D...3534599&sr=1-7

or this http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Disp...3534823&sr=1-2

so what the **** do I really need hahahah D if I get this is it gonna recognise my third monitor without ****ing up with the DVI's ?

NOW THE REALLY BIG QUESTION.... is it even possible to go for 2x dvi > hdmi and 1 minidisplayport > hdmi for my 3 monitors???? or does it have to be 3x DVI (meaning I have to buy different monitors which is kinda stupid cuz I already ordered the other ones) aka these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009206 .... so is it possible 2x dvi > hdmi and 1 minidisplayport > hdmi ?

Thanks in advance to whoever helps

Your Newegg and Amazon links don't work.

The adapter you took pictures of looks like a mini-DP to DP adapter.

There is a limitation of 2 legacy outputs (DVI/HDMI) on the Radeon 5xxx the 3rd output has to be DisplayPort. What this means is a passive DisplayPort -> HDMI adapter will not cut it for the setup you are talking aout.

Unfortunately they don't make an active DP -> HDMI adapter so you would have to use an active DP->DVI adapter ($100) and then a DVI->HDMI adapter ($5)

If you bought those adapters you could do 2x dvi -> hdmi monitors and 1 mini-DP -> DP -> DVI -> HDMI :)

Also are the monitors good for a eyefinity newbie like me? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009206

Kind of expensive for the panel. For almost $300 I'd get the NEC EA231WMi - it has DisplayPort built in, no need for adapters. It also has a great panel. Otherwise, you can get a far cheaper 24" than the one you linked. Don't be fooled by "LED" marketing - LED back lighting only affects power consumption. It has *zero* affect on picture quality.

But really, I'd ask for monitor recommendations in the display forum: http://hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=78

Hmm should I get 3x NEC then? I see that response time is 14ms aswell.. aint that bad for eyefinity? ;o

plus is IPS going to make such a big difference for gaming and why?

also.. what do you mean u dont need adapters? I still need some cables tho? I don't even know which ones =p

I only have this from 5970 box (2x) cuz of 2x 5970 boxes

picture - its minidisplay port > displayport and what else am I supposed to use if I get these monitors? http://img571.imageshack.us/i/img0001b.jpg/

Also.. how am I supposed to run my Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 7.1 Channel Full-HD Deluxe Sound Card (PCI-Express) without HDMI If I get this monitor? lolx

NEC used a different measurement. Basically that 14ms you can think of as 5ms. TNs are faster overall, though.

If you only game then you might prefer TNs, which are faster. However, TNs have terrible viewing angles, and I'm not sure how well that will work on the side monitors. Either way, I wouldn't buy a $300 24" TN - that's just a waste.

Alright, lets break down the ports.

Your 5970 has the following ports:
2x DVI
1x mini DisplayPort

It came with a miniDP to DP adapter (DP = DisplayPort). DisplayPort is more or less the size of HDMI.

To took up 3 monitors you need EITHER
A) 3 DVI monitors + 1 DP->DVI active adapter (this http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=330-5521 )
OR
B) 2 DVI monitors + 1 DP monitor. The NEC can handle both DVI and DP inputs, so you don't need the active DP->DVI adapter that you do for A if you get 3 of the NECs

Option B tends to be less troublesome. Some people have reported various issues with the active DP->DVI adapters. Some people seem to have no troubles with them at all. I have 3 monitors with DP input, so I'm not using an adapter at all.

Also.. how am I supposed to run my Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 7.1 Channel Full-HD Deluxe Sound Card (PCI-Express) without HDMI If I get this monitor? lolx

Huh?

Yeah, but I wouldn't spend that much on a cable. "Premium" just means "we charge you extra for no goddamn reason". This will work just as well: http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/cables/Premium-DisplayPort-Cable-3m.html

I don't think the NEC has as good of response time as the Asus but it has better picture quality and viewing angle. Choice is up to you. The NEC's have built in DisplayPort so you wouldn't have to buy the $100 active DisplayPort adapter from Amazon. So you could use DP for one monitor, and DVI or HDMI->DVI on the others.

Not sure about your sound card set up, but aren't you going straight from your sound card to your receiver or speaker system?

Thanks to both of you for the great answers :) helped a lot.

Also.. about my soundcard, I bought it just for the lolz to try the sound (I havent hooked it up to any receiver or whatever, just into the 32 inch tv that I am using now.. would it be a bad idea if I hook it up on the monitors? and I agree I think NEC IPS will be much better with eyefinity because of the viewing angle or whatever you call it, because TN goes LOLBLACKCOMEBACKFORMOARCOLOURS when you move around... so about the sound card.. I guess its pretty much a waste? lol.. any suggestions where to use it? should I just buy some speakers and (hook it up into the monitors which I have no idea how TO because NEC - no HDMI).

So I guess 3x NEC then? and that cable thing (DP).

Anything else I should know about IPS? :D

and do I get better quality / no dark in games?

I love my IPS panels :D

As for sound, don't use a monitor's built in sound, that is going to suck. Keep the sound card but hook it up to some real speakers. Get yourself surround sound already.

I don't think the NEC has as good of response time as the Asus

Probably not, but Acer basically slapped $60 onto the price of that monitor because it has LED backlighting. Overpriced IMO.

Can you offer me some surround sound? ;o I have some Hi-Fi Audio shit in here but cba to hook it up lmao

So overall, am I going to see any difference in games and movies with NEC?

Hmm many people saying NEC 23" IPS EA231WMi - lots of ghosting... is that true? is it worth getting for 3 way eyefinity? (Gaming Wise and Movies)

You yanks, always with the conspiracy theories:
LED back-lighting is a real technology and it does increase the blackness of blacks and whiteness of whites. The caveat is the resolution of the LED's in the back-light is never anywhere near the resolution of the 3-channel color LCD panel. Thus, in a picture where the blacks and whites aren't localized (read: there are lots of black and white zones), what you get from the LED back-light is a sort've halo (most apparent with white text on a black background: the white of the text will "bleed" into the black background, like a halo) or worse: if the sampling isn't done properly it will actually degrade your picture quality.

Anyways, I'm not sure about the exact spec of either Display Port (DP) or DVI, but what I think what its safe to infer is that the two are not pin-compatible and thus require active buffering and multiplexing to be converted between each other. Presumably these passive conversion cables are pushing the output end out of spec in a way which the designers figure the devices can figure out. AMD's device, it seems, cannot.

Only if you have DC enabled or Local Dimming. In the case of the former, turn that shit off - it sucks. In the case of the later, no monitor has it afaik. That monitor just has white LED back-lighting - which doesn't do anything for PQ. Both LED and CCFL can far exceed sRGB spec. White LED back-lighting offers nothing except power saving.

DVI and DP have different signals in addition to different pin layouts. DVI requires a clock signal, DP doesn't. The 5xxx series cards only have 2 DVI clock generators, and thus can only handle 2 DVI signals. Passive DP->DVI adapters rely on a DVI pass through (just like DVI->VGA). Passive adapters thus won't work because the card can't handle 3 DVI signals due to the lack of a 3rd clock source. Active adapters actually convert the DP signal into a DVI signal and has its own clock source.
