Just ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA

I placed an order today with Stanley he told me the $212.00 + tax no shipping deal ends this
Wednesday. If anyone is thinking about buying this monitor now is the time.

I'd totally buy it if it were 1920x1200 or 1080 :(

I wouldn't do that. Importing items can be a pain. And then there's customs.

It sucks that Croatia isn't part of the EEA, or I would suggest just buying it from an UK or German retailer. It might come out easier (and possibly cheaper) just to buy it from Dell in Croatia.

A very nice guy from forums might be able to help me, we must check the shipping cost first, maybe we can work something out.. If not, I guess I'll have to buy it for 450$ or just take something cheaper.

Well, it isn't too different from what it costs in the EU - I think you'd be hard pressed to find it under $400, after adding VAT and import duties.

I emailed warner stanley.

Small business still says $259, not $212.

Will wait to see if I get a reply.

Forget about it.

You are going to have to pay customs fees, forwarding fees, and VAT. In the end, it's likely to cost you *more* than the retail price.

Get the LG W2220P, it's a lot cheaper and readily-available.

I have been using the 2209wa for the last couple of days and the colors and viewing angles are impressive.

However, I am having a hard time getting used to the text. It is either too blurry or too sharp (fonts looks odd and are difficult to read). I have tried adjusting Cleartype, using dvi instead of vga, removing font smoothing, changing the brightness, and changing the sharpness in the monitor options, but for some reason I cannot get seem to get the monitor to display text that does not strain my eyes. I am beginning to think it is the matte coating and my eyes just cannot adjust after using a sharp, glossy screen for the past few years. Does anyone else have this problem or suggestions?

I'm a little nervous, never seen an IPS output before. I asked in another forum for comparisons between a PVA (what I have now) and an IPS and one response was although the poster still preferred the overall view of the IPS, the text and blacks and whites were crisper on the PVA. This is just as important to me as good color and viewing angles.

im in the same boat.

text is becoming really hard on my eyes
example:
any txt on light blue
http://piranha.excom.us/

so difficult to read. my sharpness is at 50.

ive never used a glossy screen before...just my old dell ultrasharp 1800FP (which was insanely sharp).

Sharpness needs to go down to 40.

From there on, it's

1) Cleartype
2) Monitor calibration

anyone using cleartype with this?
i set sharpening to 40 and it became slightly better

enabled cleartype and the majority of things seem easier to read/less strain on my eyes.

still experimenting / haven't fully decided if i like cleartype yet

I have turned off Cleartype and turned off font smoothing (search for "appearance" in windows, click on the link labeled "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows," uncheck the font smoothing button, and apply. You have to minimize and remaximize browser window, etc. to see the effect) and the fonts are as sharp as my glossy screen with cleartype enabled.

Other settings:
Brightness - 10
Contrast - 72
Sharpness - 40

The only downside to turning off font smoothing is you can see jaggy edges, especially on larger fonts, although this personally does not bother me.

yea certain blues on this monitor is hard to see. But owning it for awhile i;m getting use to the texts.

Can the graphics card have an effect on the ability to display clear text using ClearType and/or font smoothing? I am using the integrated Intel HD graphics with my i3-530.

Hey guys,
I need quick confirmation I setup my custom resolution @75Hz correctly. I feel like it was too easy! All I did was under Advance Custom Resolutions, was change Timing Standard: Automatic to CVT Reduced Blank and bump up the Refresh Rate to 75. Is that it? I don't have to muck with scan type? Or anything else?

My OSD shows it running @ 75Hz.

Oh, when I originally tried this, I wasn't able to create a custom resolution, the test failed. I ended up using that driver that was already made from another forum, that worked. However, out of curiosity, I got the latest monitor driver from Dell, and loaded the latest nvidia driver 197.25, and I was able to create the custom resolution without using the "other" driver.

Hi guys, how does 2209WA actually perform in text rendering, I just ordered one a couple days ago before I found hardforum and this helpful thread, according to some comments above, it seems that the text rendering of 2209WA is not that great, or some adjustments have to be done.

I've never had a problem with text not being readable (or less readable) for me.

Without font smoothing or Cleartype on it looks sharp. However, with either of these turned on the text appears a bit blurry (on my laptop--glossy, TN, hewlett-packard screen--text looks great with Cleartype activated), at least to my eyes. You may not have the same result since everyone's eyes are different.

so playing counterstrike source, i keep vsync off (200+ fps)..i don't really get much noticable tearing

so i turned vsync on just to see what it was like (in case i make the jump to 75hz) and it was extremely slow...so if i whipped the mouse, with vsync off it would instantaneously turn..but with vysnc on it almost feels like there's a slight lag and when i whip the mouse back and forth it's very slow (but smooth) turning in the game.

any idea?

In case anyone is interested:

Mine has a high-pitched buzz/whine at brightness less than 100(maybe 97). Jan 2010, A02, China.
So does the replacement. Feb 2010, A02, China.
Can't hear it over music or other constant sound, but can here it over my fans(which I consider close to silentpcreview.com level quiet) in a quiet room.

Other than that, it looks good, better than my 2007wfp, which is also IPS(and silent).

I'm keeping the first one and returning the replacement. The replacement is actually brighter and uses 5-7 watts more at the same brightness settings, according to my UPS.
May as well go green.

I would return both for refund if I had paid full price but I got it during the $209 CAD sale.

My wife's came in just a couple of days ago. No whine here. No dead pixels either. Overall it looks great. First 22" monitor. First IPS monitor. Now I understand why this is so popular. Probably will get competition from the HP ZR22W now though.

I got my 3 2209wa monitors 2 weeks ago.

Upgraded from a 22" Acer and 25" I-Inc, both TN panels. I don't notice any blur or any of the problems some people mention. They're amazing and worlds better than the the Acer and I-Inc, enough said.

However, do these monitors run warm for anyone else? I can feel the heat emanating with my face. I stuck sound sensitive ccfls on the back as well and the heat prevents the small pieces of velcro adhesive from settling. Or is this normal for all LCD monitors and I have never noticed? I've never stuck ccfl's behind a monitor until now.

I am using them all at 76HZ with the modded EDID someone on widescreengaming forums and they work great by the way.

Just noticed a couple things with this monitor. If I change contrast, white will literally change colour as I go up and down (white to gray to pink and back again as I go further up). And if I turn off RBG to the other option YPdPr the screen will go totally pink and b&w. I'm I doing something wrong? Otherwise, leaving it at RBG and around 69 contrast everything is fine.

I can't believe I am about to say this but 2 years later and I am back to the L227WTG baby! I just picked it up today. The colors are just as vibrant as I remember and text is razor sharp due to the glossy panel. The 2209wa had some weird text discoloration / over-sharpening thing going on. It's a great monitor. A kind of jack of all trades but it just didn't WOW me. The L227WTG is kind of like that first hot girl you go out with...you never forget. I am almost certainly going to make the jump to the W2361VG or one of the Samsung XL2370 / PX2370 for the higher resolution but in the mean time it nice to be reacquainted with the L227 for however long this fling lasts! :D

saw the refurbished section ...they currently have 20 i believe in stock at about 229 bucks
coupons anyone?

No it is $250 now. I was quoted last week for that price.

How do i go about getting this price? I e-mailed Stanley 2 days ago but have yet to receive a reply. I also contacted William by phone (via Slickdeals) and left a message 3 days ago but haven't received a call back. Who are the active Dell reps atm?

I just called the number on their website and went through the machine to talk to a sales rep. Then I just asked him what the best price he could give me was, at which point he put me on hold to talk to his manager. If they don't give you a good price just hang up and call again to try a different sales rep.

I got a call back from William about an hour ago and ended up getting the monitor for $220 + tax + free S/H. Thanks for the help [H]'ers :D

I ordered 2 2209WAs and both arrived with yellow "bands" on the top and bottom of the screen and they also had noticeable hue shift between the left side and right side. I got them both exchanged and while the replacements didn't have as much shift in hue, they still had the yellow "bands" on the top and bottom. I ended up returning and getting a refund for the 2 monitors, I was pretty disappointed because I had high expectations set by all the positive reviews.

All the monitors I received were manufactured in Jan 2010 and were revision A01.

Has anyone else had this problem? Did I just get monitors from a bad batch?
