Xbox Live has updated its code of conduct page informing users that they may now list their sexual orientation as Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender or Straight. And we need this why?

You may use the following terms to express your relationship orientation in your profile or Gamertag: Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender and Straight. Other terms regarding relationship orientation are not allowed. In addition you may not use these terms or any other terms regarding relationship orientation to insult, harass, or any other pejorative use against other users.

yes very pointless, I'm not trying to hookup on xbox live

Wonder if they will release Gender survey's like steam hardware surveys,

The world is becoming... pathetic.

What is the point? Why do people feel the need to say, "I'm Gay! Look at me!" Or how about, "I'm really F-ed up and don't like my dad so I used to be a guy, but now I'm just a f-ed up wannabe girl with a stick."

What is wrong with people?

wow, ... this will lead to soo many fags\homo jokes\ internet rage stories....

Of course they need it! How else are the 12 year olds going to know when to say "that was gay!" every single time you kill them.

Why the hell would they put crap like that on a game console's online service? I can see parents ending up in a rage about this the first time their kid asks what "transgender" or "transexual" means.

I fail to see why we need to know/care/advertise what activities sexually stimulate you or I. Put whatever implements in whatever orifice you would like in the privacy of your own home, knock yourself out.

Peoples is People. I am not interested in deciding who I game with based on what may or may not get them off.

I have a really simple benchmark; The Pint Test. If I wouldn't sit down and drink a pint with you at the pub then I probably don't have a lot of use for you or desire to be around you. At no point does The Pint Test care about sexual proclivity or orientation. Just don't beat me over the head with what stimulates you sexually (figuratively and certainly literally) and it should be all good in the 'hood.

Don't ask, Don't tell does not smack as discriminatory to me; it comes off more as common sense from where I sit. I highly doubt most people want or need to hear what I do with my Wife/GF/SO. All I ask is for the same courtesy.

oh no, it'll be even WORSE if they DON'T ask and decide to google it for themselves, and then when their parents come along and see what they are doing and go WTF . . . . .

True. I hadn't thought about that. Eventually though the conversation will lead back to the kid saying they saw the word on XBOX Live.

Ridiculous. Was the community really asking for this? Is it April 1st already?

I was wondering the exact same thing. Sorry, this has no place on Live. I don't need to know another gamers sexual orientation for any reason.

Time for the Sex predators!!! myspace and facebook are getting old. Plus, the cops are alert to those sites now.

360 Live, here they come!!!!!

What a bunch of nonsense.

uh.. this just boggles the mind that a person(s) somewhere thought this was a good idea. Even more amazing they happened to be in charge of xbox live.

The only reason they put this there is because of one fact....the "gay" community will sue the shit out of them if they dont

The sense of "entitlement" that people seem to get boggles my mind.

I believe they got a lot of bad PR last year, when a man named Richard Gaywood got banned from using his own name as a gamertag. That led to a lot of investigation into what exactly you were allowed to express through your xbl profile, and it turned out that referencing 'straight' was fine, but any reference to alternate sequal orientations was bannable.

That led to some backlash. I'm guessing this is the result. While I agree that there is no need to discuss something like sexual orientation on a network like XBL,I think it's fine that they've updated the rules to clarify that there will not be discrimination.

I honestly don't care what sexual orientation a person is

if they aren't in my bedroom why should I give a shit

OMG. Disgusting fucking homophobe.

This is a terrible idea. Xbox Live isn't a fucking dating service, no one needs to know your sexual preferences.

that hardly makes him a homophobe

at no time did he make any kind of homphobic comments???

(PS: It was hyperbole with the intent of humor. Lots of homosexuals treat you as a homophobe if you don't want to see them tongue deep in their "partner". Even if you have a similar view towards a straight couple too).

LOL cant wait till someone gets a kill streak on them and the game yells...

"you just got dominated by a transgender.":p:p:D:D

did any of you geniuses ever stop to think that by adding something like that, then gay players could actually try to play with people who wouldn't act like complete fucking asshats?

while yes, i don't need to know someone's sexuality, and for me being a hetero male - i don't know what's it's like to be constantly made fun of every time i play...

but for the people who would like to play with others that they may feel safer playing with, why the fuck would you belittle that?

bah, it's not worth my time to try and explain this to most of you... but i noticed not one post before i started writing this had anything positive to say about it.

I don't think it's what people do with their significant other that is relevant but the fact that they can even mention them at all not have something think they are making a political statement.

You just mentioned 'wife' casually yourself but can you imagine having to stop, check yourself and lie every time you would normally say 'wife' in order to avoid drama/comments/physical violence? Some people still have to do that, unfortunately.

As for XBOX Live, what a load of politically correct nonsense that is. I don't see how it's at all relevant.
