Hi all,

First time here (always in PC gaming section usually).
My girlfriend just got a Xbox 360, so I figured I'd give it a try.
I am very useless on FPS games as I can't seem to do the transition from KB+ mouse to dual analog...

Anyway, I tried the Dante's Inferno demo yesterday, and had a lot of fun! There is no "aiming/shooting" required, it's all beat em up!
I had a blast and am looking for older similar games now.

Can anyone suggest beat em up games that are already out please?

Thanks.

Welcome to console gaming! I personally left PC gaming several years ago and never look back. As much crap as the PC crowd gives us with "Real gamers use a PC" there's nothing like sitting in an easy chair playing on a 4 foot wide screen...just saying.

Beat 'em up games 'eh? Let me make a few suggestions.

-Batman: Arkham Asylum: This is also on PC but the controls work much better with a console controller. I was late to the bandwagon but this ended up being one of the best games I've ever played. Phenominal.
-Devil May Cry 4/Bayonetta: I'll bunch those into one game. DMC is older but they play almost identically I hear. DMC wasn't my cup of tea but it got good reviews, Bayonetta is getting stellar reviews. DMC should be very cheap.
-Marvel: Ultimate Alliance/UA 2: Team beat 'em up games with Marvel superheros. The first game should be VERY cheap.
-Assassin's Creed 2: More of an adventure RPG than a beat 'em but you'll enjoy it. The first game is pretty weak.
-Ninja Gaiden II: I HATED this game but others loved it. Ninja Gaiden Black for the original Xbox would be a better bet, it's backwards compatible.

You might consider trying a fighting game like Street Fighter IV or Tekken 6.

Also, while it's not a "beat 'em up" get Shadow Complex on Xbox Live Arcade. It's a shooter but more of a Metroid/Castlevania side scroller, one of the best games you can play. You can even buy it on Amazon (I think it's $15) on their Xbox Live section.

I know there's alot more great games, I just can't think of them off the top of my head. Xbox really favors the FPS games, transitioning to the thumbsticks isn't too bad. I did it, so can you! :D

Thank you all for your inputs.
I will be borrowing Bayonetta from a friend (already arranged).
I finished AA and DMC4 on PC.
Ninja Gaiden looks interesting.
I didn't really enjoy Marvel Alliance games.
Didn't really enjoy AC, but AC2 seems really good (gonna try to get it used).
I heard very good things about Shadow Complex (will look into it).
I am a champ at Soulcalibur 4 :) and am borrowing my friend's SF4.
I own both MW and MW2 on PC, and shooters aren't my cup of tea on consoles :)

All in all, thanks a lot, now I have leads! :)

Don't forget sports games, but that might not be your thing. I just got my first console fairly recently and it took me a month or so to get used to the controls for fps games. I also highly recommend the fps freek control stick addon (helped me a lot). http://www.kontrolfreek.com/Game-Co...PS-Freek.asp?gclid=COOOwaOP0p8CFQLHsgodG2WOmw

Guitar hero/rockband can get your girlfriend involved if she's not a hardcore gamer -- mine likes singing...

MW1 and MW2, its best to start with the best IMO

Don't make me laugh. CoD 4 is a testament to awesome FPSness but MW2 is a joke. I play it alot and enjoy it but man it's a sorry second act compared to CoD 4...

If you get Ninja Gaiden I'd start with Ninja Gaiden Black for the XBox...as I mentioned it's SO much better than NG2 it's ridiculous. Also, it was a late Xbox game so the graphics are still pretty sharp.

AC2 is lightyears beyond the first game. Amazon has it on sale for $40, you won't find it much cheaper used I don't think.

Shadow Complex is an excellent bet. Try the demo if you're unsure. Also, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is another great platform RPG on XBLA.

I too am just starting Street Fighter IV. If you ever wanna whoop me give me an XBL shoutout.

It's like you didn't even read the original post.

As for the OP, I recommend Marvel Ultimate Alliance (and possibly MUA 2, I haven't played it). It's fun and extremely cheap since it was bundled with the 360 at one point.

I haven't played Dante's Inferno, so I don't know how close they are, but it is a fun beat 'em up sort of game.

Dante's Inferno looks like more of a NG2/Bayonetta style game than MUA.

Crackdown.

You can beat up, throw anything at baddies and blow them to hell. It's awesome. Plus, it's in the Platinum Hits so it's inexpensive to purchase.

Ooh, good one. I forgot about Crackdown. If you've played any of the recent GTA games (recent being GTA 3 or newer) you'll feel right at home with Crackdown...it's just alot more fun.

Yeah, i had a blast with crackdown and will also give another vote for Shadow complex on arcade.
Though not a beat'em up, I also feel Trails HD is one of the greats on xbox arcade. i still suck on those super hardcore levels. grrrrr And yet i always go back. need...to...beat...them

maybe try mass effect? i know you don't like shooters, but you can use biotics and go light with the guns. it might even ease you into the console setup. It took me a while to get used to no kb/m but i like it a lot now.

Yeah I heard a lot of good things about crackdown, but am a bit scared of the shooter aspect (GTA clone).
I do enjoy sports games, and racing games too, but I really was looking for games that would have the same control scheme and theme and genre as Dante's Inferno (God of War clone I guess).

I know I will have to eventually get used to FPS controls on console, but I feel so retarded when I do try it that it seems like a waste of time :(

And yes, MW2 is a joke (I own it on PC and wow, what a let down comparted to MW).

So my plan is to try to get Ninja Gaiden for Xbox, and AC2 for 360 for a decent price (if I manage).

Oh and I already have all the Rockband and Lego stuff (that's what my gf plays lol).

edit: I owned Mass Effect on PC and was quite unimpressed by it. Not my type of game...

Crackdown has a "lock on" feature where you hold the left trigger and automatically lock on to your target, it's not much of a true shooter. It's a ton of fun and it's $10 on Newegg.

I'd get Ninja Gaiden Black for the Xbox (Black has some extra stuff), although the normal edition will work just fine.

I'm with you, I wasn't impressed by Mass Effect either. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special.

Also, you mention you like racing games and sports games. I'm a huge racing game fan, Forza Motorsport 2/3 are both excellent. You can probably get 2 for $10 or less if you look around, FM3 is even better. Also, the Project Gotham series (3 and 4) are both great, I liked #3 more. #4 is also $10 on Newegg. Forza is more sim racer, PGR is very arcadey.

I found someone who is selling Ninja Gaiden 2 for 360 for $15.
I'm gonna buy it, and hope to have a bunch of fun!

I'd suggest DMC4, but the PC version is actually loads better assuming you have a controller for the PC (use that xbox360 controller and get a wireless receiver for PC).

I have the same feeling with Assassin's Creed 1, can't say anything about 2 yet since it's not out on PC.

Bayonetta received raving reviews, although I haven't played it personally. My brother got it for PS3 which is a shit show compared to 360.

So I got Ninja Gaiden 2 yesterday, and I played it for about 30 mins, and had a lot of fun (feel very ninja-esque which is cool!).

I went to EB and checked out their used games section and found Conan for $15 and Crackdown for $25.

What do you guys think?

Oh and I was this close to buying Dante's Inferno (new, 60 bones) but then decided to not spend too much money at once and enjoy the games one by one...

Still...I have this itch...thinking of actually buying a PS3 when GOW 3 comes out :(

If you want to beat people up, run don't walk to get Batman Arkham Asylum. I beat the living fuck out of a lot of dudes in that game in numerous delightfully Dark Knight-y ways.

Once you upgrade a few moves and get used to the free flow system, it becomes a total spectacle. Pure fucking win.

I already finished it on PC.

I'm talking to some guy at the moment, trying to buy his copy of Dante's Inferno for $35...
Hope it works out!

Anyone has any opinion on Conan? I know the reviews weren't stellar, but the demo seemed fun enough...found it for $15 at EB games...thinking of buying it...
