Ok so i bought the corsair h50. installed really easily.

i just had a couple of questions to make sure i did this right and im not gonna end up with a fried processor in a week.

I bought a 3pin to molex adapter and plugged the pump into one of the molex connectors.
i also already had a 120mm fan in the back, so i turned it around (so it blows air in) and left that fan plugged into one of the molex connectors.
will i be alright not having either the fan or the pump plugged into the mobo, so it can regulate the speed? (i.e. will they run at 100% all the time now)

my idle temps were from about 28C to 32C. i ran furmark for 1.30 minutes and heaven benchmark for 3 minutes (was in a hurry) and the highest the temps got was 36C. i know these temps are good but from your guys' experience, will these be consistent or will the temps increase the more i use the comp?

also when i over clock how high should temps of the processor be before i should worry and shut it down?

ok......

well im still wondering about those original questions
also here is another if anyone decides to lend me their expertise:
would it be a good idea to turn the fan on the side to blow air out of the case, now that the one on the back is blowing air into the case?

but for those of you who are wondering about performance, i had my friend run a couple of games for me:

NFS shift for 30 min= 36C max on stock clocks
Crysis for 30 min= 38C max on stock clocks

whats your ambient temps?

also I set my up to exhaust out the back instead of intake(to keep my cases airflow smooth) also I plugged the pump into the CPU header on the mobo, and the rad fan into a SYSTEM_FAN header on the mobo(as per the instructions)

with this setup I stay maybe 10*C over ambient @ idle and at 100% load I reach 70*C max

not sure what my ambient is but i can find out.

would it be a good idea to put the radiator on the side fan which is set to intake normally and put the rear as an exhaust or keep the rear as an intake over the radiator and turn the side into an exhaust?

the reason i plugged everything into molex is because on the corsair install vid, they recommended running pump and fan at 100% all the time for best cooling. by plugging directly into molex power the fan and pump will always be running at full (i think). also my mobo is a mATX board so i dont know if it has another header on it. i just found the system fan header.

what is a good way to stress test your processor?

and does anyone have a fan recommendation to get for push pull?

I believe the Corsaird vid recomends you run the pump at 100%, but the not the fan. I left my fan on the CPU header and it averages around 700RPM at idle, and never gets about 1200 at heavy load and if very quiet. Due to the airflow design on the mini P180 (with a top mounted 200mm exhaust fan) I was fine with letting the H50 blow air into the case since the top fan moves it right out.

For reference, in my home office that is typically around 70-71F...

idle for in excess of 20 minutes I show 19c
Prime95, 8 threads full load I max out at 47c

Considering Prime95 is an "unrelaistic" work load, I'm pretty happy with the results.

ok well those temps are a lot lower than mine. would this be affected by the fact that the fan is probably intaking the air that is being blown out by the 5870? because then it would simply be taking in hot air

I find it hard to believe your processor is colder then ambient...

How are you under ambient at idle, that is not physically possible with watercooling? 70F is about 21C. I'll just say your temp sensors are a little off.

I found this to work best for the H50. <=fan<=shroud<=rad<=shroud<=fan. I use Slipstreams currently and they work very well. The CM R4's are awesome for this rad but slightly more noisy.

A shroud helps to guide the air flow. That way its not being dispursed outside the cooling region, which in your case would be the radiator. So for dkev's setup he's actually using a what looks like a 120mm fan case inbetween the fans and the radiator to cut down on turbulence. Fans will begin to cavitate if they are to close to an object, where as they cannot pull or push enough air, thus becoming inefficent.

I just bought the H50 a couple days ago and I'm using two R4s in push/pull and I'm getting about 32c idle / 83c load temps on my 860 @ 4Ghz using 1.35 vcore. I was actually thinking about changing the fans until I read someone saying they're good on the H50's radiator.

how do the R4s hold up to the fan that comes with the h50? also would having 2 R4s be too much airflow in a small space causing the efficiency to drop?

Looks like he may have mutilated a couple fans to make those shrouds. That said, that's freggin sweet, can't believe I've never had the brains or balls to do that. Fans are cheap, so I guess I'm lacking brains
