I bought Brutal Legend today. I loved psychonauts and I like JB so I'm excited to play it. Has anyone played the full version yet? any likes/dislikes so far?

First console game I've bought since NG2, I hope I don't get buyers remorse again. That $64 including tax is pretty Brutal, pardon the pun.

I rented it last night and got about an hour or two to play it before going to bed. I love the humor and the dialogue, game seems pretty epic so far. The controls are pretty good, but seem a little basic so far. I am enjoying the story and humor more than the gameplay at the moment.

Sooo wanted to get this, and it's the closest I've come to spending release price to buy a game... but I just can't afford to drop $65 on a game right now.

My budget is already set to instant-noodle :s

I beat it late last night after a marathon session. Great story, music, etc but lacking somewhat in the length and combat enjoyment categories.

That being said, anyone want to play some multiplayer on PSN? PM me.

Its a fun game all and all. I have put a small amount of time into it and am enjoying it so far. I havent done any of the RTS portions yet but hope to get there tomorrow when I get home from work.

Everyone was telling me how awesome this game is gonna be, so I played through the demo on PS3 two times. Personally, I couldn't get into it at all. The gameplay didn't seem that great, granted I only had a limited experience from just the demo, but it did not make me want to rent the game to play more - let alone think about buying it.

IMO, the idea behind the game's story is ridiculously stupid, so much so that I was getting aggravated at how idiotic it was while playing. Add the ever-annoying Jack Black to make it worse.

Maybe I just don't get it, I'm not sure. But I loved God of War and I like metal, so for what everyone told me was "God of War with metal", I was totally disappointed to say the least. I wanted to like this game, but it's just not for me. :(

I would say that it's only like God of War at the beginning, but quickly changes into a vehicle/rts game instead.

I thought the demo was alright, but not a must buy- when it gets to $20, I will buy it. I assumed I was going to absolutely loathe it due to Jack Black being the main character- while he isn't horrible, I just don't care for him usually. That said, a bit of it was funny, and I like hacking and slashing.

Played more of it last night, hope to finish it up today (skipping side stuff for now). The humor is fantastic. The gameplay is getting a little better, but it is getting pretty repetitive. The whole RTS thing is fun though.

I played through the end of the first mission last night. The dialogue and humor was really fun for me, I assume it would come down to your personal appreciation of JB; some people can't stand him, I happen to like his humor/personality.

I thought the gameplay was good, with the exception that the combat system seems pretty shallow and clunky so far. I think since I'm still at the beginning stages there may be incremental improvements/combos added to the fighting, but I think it will always feel clunky. I didn't expect ninja gaiden or DMC refinement so I can live with that.

The graphics are typical for xbox360. Not great, but not terrible. I noticed framerate dips when certain effects happend during the game. It seemed to be in big explosions that incorporated particle physics. The overall video looked upscaled, the textures were low detail, and i detected slight aliasing. I think the definite lack of true 1080p, 4X FSAA and strong high res textures will be the bane of 360 games throughout this generation. Which is why I always buy the PC version of a game if it's available. Simply speaking, neither console's games look as good, on my TV, than the PC version running on my living room PC with a core2duo and an 8800GT. This is why I played the PC version of prototype, DMC4, red faction, RE5, etc.. etc... I can't fault Brutal legend for having the same presentation pitfalls that any other xbox 360 game also has, it seems to be a limitation of the platform.

Overall it feels like a pretty good game so far, but I withhold final judgment until I get a chance to play it more.

played this for a few hours last night, I think the game is great. its nice to see an original fantasy world even if the premise is a bit crazy. there is good variety so far and you actually get to *gasp* explore a game world and find cool things. great selection of music tracks too.

for people that want to play a bunch of cookie-cutter sequel games that usually fill the shelves, avoid this at all costs. people looking for a crazy and funny adventure should love this game.

I beat the game last night. Probably put somewhere between 6-8 hours into it, and this was just running through the main quest since I wanted to beat it fast (rental, and I rented Uncharted 2, also!). The game was entertaining throughout, but the last couple RTS battles are pretty difficult. I died multiple times. If you have the luxury to play through side quests, its probably a good idea to do some of them and upgrade all your weapons/moves. Tenacious D fans might also recognize a cameo by Kyle Gass.

It was enjoyable, but the difficulty at the end put me off a bit. The gameplay does get repetitive, but the dialogue and story are enjoyable. Cool cameos, but unfortunately, Lita Ford is a terrible voice actress. Those that are in the metal scene (I'm not, though I did recognize many references) will have a blast, but I'm starting to think that Tim Schafer's development team needs to focus on better gameplay mechanics next time.

woah, you died 'multiple times' on a game you rushed through? damn let me sign you up for therapy. would you prefer an entire game that you can cakewalk through?

this sums post up a lot of what is currently wrong with many recent games. shit is too easy, people just want to get the games over with and move on to something else or go achievement whoring. I was happy brutal legend actually rewards exploration and screwing around. free bonus if the end is a challenge too, I am in the minority that like to put some effort into finishing a game.

Got it, love it. The gameplay is basic, but its fun. The story and dialog are great. My wife is actually enjoying watching me play just for that.

You know, I normally agree with this line of thought but I think there is point at which this game transcends being a challenge. I am playing it on normal difficulty and I was having a great time playing. I fought some stage battles, smeared Gen Lyonwhite and have done a good number of side missions....Then it got cold...I went from having a fun experience to almost throwing my fucking controller through my goddamn TV because of the stage battle with the goddamn emos. I have tried doing this battle 6 times and have yet to beat it. Im about to say fuk emos and fuk this game but I REALLY want to like it! I have had so much fun withg it up until now...

Personally, I thought the game was pitifully easy. You don't even need to know the strengths/weaknesses of a particular unit as the tier 1 ones work great all the way until the last fight of the game.

If you're talking about the first battle with the drowning doom, all you have to do is control the middle fan geysers and you'll be able to overwhelm her pretty easily. You most likely won't even need to tech up as headbangers and razor girls backed by a couple bass carts as your units aren't threatened too badly since drowning doom has little in the way of AOE.

Lastly and probably most importantly, abuse the HELL out of your guitar solos. Face melting and the zeppelin can kill more enemies than your units do a lot of the time. Secondary missions of the ambush variety are moot once you get the zeppelin solo.

The only reason I'm rushing through this is cause (1) its a rental, and (2) there are a billion other games that I want to play. Sorry for my opinion. I enjoy challenging games (I'm one of the few people that actually welcomed Dead Rising's save system), but I did find that the difficulty on those last two missions was a giant leap from the previous ones. I do admit that they might have been easier if I did the side missions, but I will say again that I was playing this game mainly for the story rather than the gameplay. Have you reached the final sections of the game yet?
