SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA ANNOUNCES
GOD OF WAR® COLLECTION, A NEW COMPILATION OFFERING FOR PLAYSTATION®3
Exclusive God of War® and God of War® II Blu-ray Disc Compilation
Available This Holiday Season

FOSTER CITY, Calif., September 1, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today a new and exclusive PlayStation®3 (PS3™) offering for the critically acclaimed God of War® franchise, God of War® Collection. Scheduled for release this holiday season, God of War Collection will feature reworked versions of both God of War® and God of War® II on a single Blu-ray Disc™ at full 1280 x 720 resolution. Both critically acclaimed games, which were originally developed for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring PlayStation®Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the first time (included for both games). God of War Collection offers substantial value to PS3 consumers, the compilation of both best-selling games costing just $39.99 MSRP.

I heard a rumor it might include a God of War 3 demo.

Wow, this might actually convince me to give the series a try.

That said, this is still unconfirmed. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. :)

That's freakin' awesome. Both games were wonderful. It'll be terrific to play a high resolution version of both. Plus, since both games are a hint on the short side, having two on one disk (at $40 no less) will provide a ton of gameplay. I'm on this - day one.

Awesome, I was just starting to think of giving this series a try. I was about to add God of War 1 to my Gamefly queue. Maybe I'll just wait for this one.

Definitely buying this despite playing through both already on their PS2 counterparts.

Same here, this is awesome news man day 1 purchase for me. The God of War games are my all time favorite games.

While its awesome, I feel this uneasiness that people are being tricked into forgetting that you simply have no BC and now have to buy the games again. The allure of 720p and Trophies I think will blind most people to the obvious truth. Sony is smart.

Regardless, more power to the consumer if they want to purchase remastered games.

While i see and generally agree with the point that youre making, I will gladly pay in this case for 720p. It is disconcerting that BC is a bad business model because companies can double dip by rereleasing "classic" games, but I personally have no issue when they go back and "improve" the original content. Just like if they ever make a FF7 remake...

Personally? I missed out on GoW for no reason (ps2 owner, just never played). I was planning on playing the old ones on my ps3 but lamented the lack of BC, so i guess this marketing tactic is working on me. Regardless, I'm excited for it!

The fact that the games are remastered and are running natively on the ps3 hardware is good I'd say. They're claiming 60 fps - an improvement over the original running on BC hardware most likely? (I am speculating a little here)

I agree with Noid and you on this. I dont like how BC is still not there, but actually going back and retouching the old game even if it's abit (not just upscaling) is a definate plus. I have a BC ps3 and the original 2 God of Wars, but I will rebuy for this :D

Same. I own the old ones and I do have BC...and I still want it.
Besides, we might get some remastered audio, too. GoW had a great audio track, but since it was for the PS2, everything was in 2-channel compressed stereo.

I beat the first GoW on hard mode and almost broke my playstation. Very frustrating but well worth it. After I unlocked God mode I never played the game again. I never gout around to finishing GoW 2 so maybe this will get me back into it. I could just use the copy of GoW2 in my PS3 right now though since I have full BC on mine. I'd have to see the res jump though for me to consider the "new" version.

say hello to sony's new cell based ps2 emulator so this is how they will use it on specific titles and offer new features and capabilities to force us to rebuy the game got to love them

i really don't mind as long as they come with bonus feature and updated graphics

Highly unlikely that this is being emulated, given the higher frame rate, trophies, and so forth.

Why can't I just get this in the collectors edition of GoW 3? I would think it would sell many more copies of the collectors edition considering many like me haven't played the series.

i wouldnt rule out a collectors edition with the job lot
im stoked for this i only played the psp version which was amazing, so im glad ill have a chance to play the first 2.
i hope more ps2 remakes are on the way as remixed hd graphics are always a plus over simple emulation. Maybe its a sign of things to come!!

This is a day 1 buy. I never got a chance to play any of the God of War games. Can't wait. :)

GoW I $ II are both great games, and if you haven't played them before, they are definitely worth while!

I hope they do somethign similar with the MGS series. I would love to have all those games remastered and on BD.

Well the good news about this is the emulation with this game if you have a BC compatible PS3 it's not so great, it runs fine but I've got a 65inch Tv and it looks like poo and the smoothing option helps a little but it makes the picture look all smudged. The updated rez will help out.

Hell yes! Sold.

The irritating part is that people kinda wanted this as an add-on to the CE of GoW III. Guess it's more about the money. Oh well.

I wonder if this uses that PS2 emulation software that Sony recently patented? Hopefully it's a good conversion. 720p, 60FPS with AA. Sounds like it

There is certainly a list of great games for PS2 that I hope will also get this treatment. I have played both GOW games, but will play them again as soon as this comes out. I'd also like to see ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 given the same treatment. I feel like there is great market for all of those games to be unscaled this way. I am sure the GOW games will sell well. I know this is a day 1 buy for me.

I am all over this. I never picked these up for the ps2, they were always on my must buy list and it just never happened.

I would much have have reworked hd titles like this instead of bc. it would probaly cost me close to $40 to pick up the first 2 gow games anyway.

Missed these on Ps2. Think I'll be picking this up, possibly just a rental.

I like this idea, I kinda want them to do something like this with Kingdom Hearts. I never finished the first game, and don't feel like hooking up my Ps2 to play it. Damn that game kicked ass.

I agree, I would by an unscaled anti-aliased version of Shadow of the Colossus in a second.

This is a guaranteed buy for me. I've certainly got to play something other than Chains of Olympus to get ready for GOW3.

I've got it pre-ordered as I'm definetly picking up god of war 3 and want to play the first two. Looking at the trailer it seems similiar to Heavenly Sword. Is it just the animations and the inclusion of certain button sequences that is making me think that, or are they actually a lot alike?

Heavenly Sword was a clone of GoW. Some times it is refered to as "Godess of War"

I'm tempted to pick this up because I just finished ninja gaiden sigma and I want a new beat-em-up.

Is this series a straightforward series of fights or do I have to backtrack all over creation finding keys and pushing levers? The combat in Ninja Gaiden was great, but I won't bother playing through it again because the game isn't about combat, it's about random item fetching.

Own and love both. GoW2 was near perfection. I'll be picking up the remaster :)

I was on the fence about buying the re-mastered versions. However, I got the above link in my email last night and I was checking out the treailer -- I couldn't believe how much better it looked. The animation was so smooth!

I'll be grabbing this on day one as well, and I've already got the first two. I'd love to play through again!
