I usually set my clocks to the following settings in the profiles.xml:

<Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0">
<Property name="Want_0" value="27500" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="75000" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0">
<Property name="Want_0" value="30000" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="90000" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="CoreVoltageTarget_0">
<Property name="Want_0" value="1050" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="1250" />

Before today I never really took a hard look at the settings, and didn't realize the core voltage was also set lower in 2D.

I'm curious to find out the lowest value I can set there safely. Any other 4870x2 users who run similar settings - I'd love to find out.

At my current settings I get ~52C at idle running my fanspeed at 35%

I'd love to see that temp drop when I'm not in game.

Using accelero hd4870x2 heatsink with idle 300 core 300 mem. Fan speed 29%, 38c idle core 1 36c core 2.

You have to be careful about setting values too low, or else you'll get corruption in the form of screen shaking/line corruption.

My core/mem speeds are as low as I can take em without having some sort of driver failure. Learned the hard way.

Try not to be so helpful, it's overwhelming.

250/250 for both cores and Vram. Also under volts to 0.9/0.85 for core1/0.

Getting so close to the limits will cost you DXVA as apparently the UVD doesn't like being forced to run like this.

Thanks for that information Hypernova, I had no idea I was compromising DXVA! I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'd like to keep my card as cool as possible while I'm not gaming but at what cost?

Something to think about.

If you didn't notice chances are you weren't using it, so no loss there. You can still use shader effects in MPC-HC if you use VMR9 mode, although I found a clip that still triggers vpu recovery.

The doesn't solve the problem of unnecessary heat being dumped into the case, not to mention power bills.

Lowering the voltage on your 4870X2 a couple tenths of a volt at idle isn't going to do anything for your power bill.

Just saying it will shave a few watts by itself that's all. The main benefit for me is reduced heat keeping the fan at 27% idle.

I've had 0 temp increase in my case. I can touch the fins at any time and they are completely cool.

@ unrealsword,

While the Accelero seems like a more than competent cooler I'd much prefer to expel heat out the back of my case instead of inside my case. I think I can recall reading some horror stories about people bricking their video cards while installing the Accelero. No thanks.

You still haven't contributed anything meaningful or germane to this topic. Why don't you start by answering my original question. Your temps are meaningless to me without that info.

@ Hypernova,

After the DXVA comment was made I followed a tutorial to make sure i had it enabled. I had been using CCCP (MPC-HC) and DXVA had not in fact been enabled. While I did enable it, I don't know that it'll make much of a difference either way. It's nice to see the CPU stay at less than 10% used while playing 1080p content, but like you said, I didn't even know...

Play some 1080 test clips to see if things are stable, if it isn't either:
-the clip will freeze within seconds into it. Few second later your rig freeze with it or VPU recover is triggered.
-it plays fine for the most part but freeze up or corruption is seen when the action is heavy.

Yeah, I was able to play 1080p files fine with it enabled, only thing I had issue with was an anime test clip to show off karoke (sp) subtitles. I don't sing along with anything at my computer so no big deal.

As it stands I don't think I'm going to mess with my voltage settings in profiles.xml. All things considered I think my temps / performance is reasonable.

voltmodding through the profile isn't versatile anyway. To do proper volt modding you should use rivatuner. Voltamodding can really give you that final squeeze on power use, right now my VRM current output is somewhere between 1.35A and 0.74A (next lowest value it can report). I have managed to reach levels to low for the sensors to measure properly. I once saw my 2nd gpu report a current of 0A :) with an unstably low voltage.

Hypernova, how does that effect your temperatures?

I guess my info is meaningless regardless since I have an accelero installed. Accelero is the clear solution or watercooling. The bricking the card isn't a problem either since new screwed are included with properly height. The card operating at your temperature is under what it's expected to run at idle anyway and unless you meant to keep the card for the next 10 years it's pointless.
