Patriot Memory in Testing @ [H]

All of my experience with Patriot has been positive. I would love to see exclusive deals for [H] members too.

I have 4 sticks in one system and 2 more in another. Both DDR2 and DDR3. No issues. Price was great. Performance is there. Overclocking took a little extra power but no more than most memory needs. I say its a good relationship. go for it.

I have a set of DDR400 Patriot sticks in my old S939 rig, they have run flawlessly for like 4 years, crazy 2-2-2-5 (?) timing I think.

I also have a set of Patriot Viper DDR2 800 in my current PC. After a year, one module failed, sucked because I had to RMA both sticks to newegg, had no spare memory and my PC was down for almost 2 weeks. The replacement set has been running fine, though.

I always recommend Patriot memory, I'm also a fan of their heat spreaders :)

Those modules look like a custom job just for Hard OCP notice the shape of the heat sinks.

The way to remedy that is just to always buy from Newegg. That way they always have a receipt that you can print out when you log into your account. I just looked back at my order history and the first Newegg purchase I ever made was on 11/26/2001 and it was an old crappy TNT2 video card shown here. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125101 I can't believe that Newegg shows orders from that long ago and still even keeps the product page up.

While I agree that Newegg does make this easy, as such they get a ton of business from me. I fully agree with Dan that the policy is outdated and punitively punishes the consumer. Manufacturers know the window that a product was produced, especially when it comes to technology. Using the lack of receipt as an excuse to not honor the warranty in this day and age is no longer an acceptable policy. Again I overall like patriot and it looks like they really want the enthusiast community to take them seriously, However They really need to rethink that particular policy.

So what's the verdict on their RMA process and customer service? Things like ease of use, English as a first language, turn-around time, etc. (Dan and his aversion to saving receipts notwithstanding) Also, if this is an American based company, that would have some weight with me.

Support would be the only thing that would keep me from giving them a shot. With the other good companies selling RAM and offering great customer service, like Corsair and OCZ, I'd need a good reason to switch to a different brand aside from it being a few dollars cheaper. I don't remember ever hearing about their stuff being particularly special at overclocking. Patriot has always sounded solid but I never wanted to guinea pig it.

You know what would be really nice is if Patriot could be convinced to have a rep in this forum to answer questions and help with issues like some of the other companies do.

I had the PVT36G1333LLK kit for my Core i7, but it was a bad kit.

That's my experience!

I second this, especially if the module is advertised as having a "lifetime" warranty. The one gskill module I had go bad was purchased used (off the [H]ard Forums). Gskills printed policy states they want a receipt. I sent them a short email explaining that the module has lifetime warranty but i don't have a receipt. They said no problem and took care of it ASAP. So that's had me sold on gskill, but i think it's time I start playing with some Patriot modules again.

I'm a hardcore Mushkin or Corsair customer, but once for a customer I had to go with Patriot because of the budget / availability. I have not heard any complains from him since I delivered. So I guess stability is fine.

Hi everyone,

I apologize to everyone, especially to Dan_D, about our old RMA policy with receipts. I'm happy to say that we take our customers' feedback very seriously, and we have changed this policy many years back so that a receipt is not needed for an RMA. If there are any more questions about our RMA process or one of our products in general, I would be happy to answer them.

We take great pride in our support and RMA departments, and we are always happy to help replace products that are under our lifetime warranty. For any technical problems or to start the RMA process, please email support@patriotmem.com.

From there, one of our support representatives will email back promptly to start the quick and easy RMA process.

Thanks everyone for supporting Patriot, and I'll try to be more active on these forums in the next coming weeks :).

Phil

That's great to hear. It was a couple of years ago at least that I had that experience. Like I said before I didn't think my one issue was indicative of Patriot's modules as a whole given the experiences of others that were more positive than not.

Indeed that is really a fantastic policy change. Glad to hear my information was out of date, seems Patriot is very serious in their customer dedication.

Sure seems that way. I'm glad to hear it. More companies need to follow this example.

I had problems getting 4x1GB of Geil DDR2-800 in an Asus P5N32-E SLI PLUS motherboard. I switched to 4x2GB Patriot 5-5-5-12 DDR2-800 (PEP22G6400EL) because they were cheap at the time as single modules. I had no problems at the rated 2.0V, whereas I would BSOD with the Geil. They even worked great out of the box with the Asus Maximus Formula I switched to not too long after.

I was looking at going with Patriot for my i7-920 build because of my previous experiences, but a couple of OCZ mail-in rebates for their low latency kit from Amazon & Newegg stole the deal.. :D

Impressive. This thread has done more for my impression of Patriot than any ads or reviews could possibly do. I've been a loyal Kingston customer after multiple bad experiences with Crucial and OCZ, but after the [H] brethren have spoken, I have no choice to add Patriot to my "thumbs up" RAM list.

FWIW, I have had several USB flash drives from Patriot and have always been pleased with the performance, reliability and value of their products.

Very impressive to see a Patriot rep come on here and address these issues. I'll probably be buying from them next time I upgrade my system.
