We should do like with the GT250...tell Intel that PR-FUd don't fly...otherwise we end up with FUD like from NVIDIA or Creative.

Now I'm confused... I'd like to see an official chart from Intel at this point![]()
Quad without HT = i5Erm... quad-core i5 with HT = 8 threads? Or are i5s limited to dual-core?
Quad without HT = i5
Dual with HT (and turbo) = i5
i5 = 4 threads with turbo.
i9 is prime?It would have made more sense with naming them i2, i4 and i8 then..but I guess prime numbers are "cool"...
i9 is prime?![]()
Did you look at the chart? Because that would answer your questions. Quad-core i5s do not have HT; only the dual-core models will. So all i5 CPUs will have 4 threads. Meanwhile, the Lynnfield i7s will be LGA1156 quad-cores with HT so they will have 8 threads.
Well, that's your own fault for getting caught up in all the speculation. "Most people" won't have any idea what an i5 is until Intel releases it to the market, and at that point they'll have a much easier time getting a grip on the naming scheme since they won't have any false preconceptions.Most people (myself very much included) have made the mental connection between i5 and LGA 1156. Yet Intel is making an i7 that will work in an 'i5' socket motherboard - which to me is pretty damn retarded.
LGA1366 has triple-channel memory, QPI, more PCI-E lanes to provide better support for multi-GPU setups, and support for the upcoming 6-core Gulftown CPUs which will not be coming to LGA1156.So I will rephrase my question and ask again in hopes that I better understand this. What is the incentive for anyone to buy into the LGA 1366 platform once LGA 1156 is out on the market? Or perhaps; what does the LGA 1156 socket mean to me, a LGA 1366 owner?
As I've already explained, integrated PCI-E is practically meaningless. There will be no performance gain or loss from that, since latency is not an issue. Lower power consumption is mostly a result of the platform being lower-end, and obviously the cost is as well.So far it is not looking good (on paper). We lose Triple Channel memory but gain integrated PCI-Express, lower power consumption and could be cheaper as a whole.
