Hi, I was a fan of the Mini iTX PC case Lian Li PC-Q07.

Had created a thread in Lian Li's forum, to elaborate when and in what colors this case would be finally available.
Besides this, I explained what kind of moddings I could imagine to do with this case.
You know how involved an enthusiast can get.

Anyway. as it was announced in February this year and is about to become available here in Europe only from middle of this month, it really took a very long time.
When there was not a single sign of availibility anywhere, I was even interested in ordering one from China, but then I received an PM from an Lian Li employee, offering me to get one case without any painting for free.
We,, I was after the silver model ... so that was a pretty good offer.
I highlighted twice that I would not mind paying, but he refused.
Only thing I had to promise, was to send some pictures of my modding results ... of course I agreed.

That was on March, 23rd:

Dear Sir,

I will apply one for you for free, you just need to post your work to website, and copy the link to me.
Currently we will only manufacture Black model, but I believe that we will have silver version soon.
But I need to ask them to have one made special for you at this moment in silver anodized finishing.

In the mean time, I have sent several emails, asking carefully if something has gone wrong maybe - but no reply.

This is now going for over two months.

Was that the chinese kind of humour ?

Seriously? You're whining about Lian Li offering to give you a case for free and you're trying to hound them on it??? Seriously???

Dude, if the case shows up to your home then thank them profusely, if it doesn't then you didn't lose anything and you'll still probably buy one when it finally gets released in your country. Stop whining. :rolleyes:

Shit, Chris Morley (yeah, THAT Chris Morley) was going to send me a case to play with. Never happened due to manufacturing problems (it was an Omaura case). I've done reviews on Antec, nMedia and Silverstone cases and it's taken them a while to get them out to me. Especially when the case is brand new. I never whined. I thanked them greatly just for the offer to check them out. :rolleyes:

Um, if this was a rebate you didn't get a check for or something else where they were obligated in any way to follow through, I could empathize

But come on, he offered a free case; he probably got some chance to grab a case and thought it'd be great to get one out to a LL fan, and it didn't work out. Big deal. Sure, its a letdown, but this isn't one you have any real reason to complain about.

It's a brand new case, they might be having issues with getting one out to you (the factories are located in China. You were OFFERED a case FOR FREE.

You're being ungrateful by even whining about it not showing up when you want it while also demanding that they send one that is unpainted. Just offering you the case and listening to your demands for an unpainted version was Lian Li going way out of their way.

If the case shows up, awesome! Make sure to post a work log with lots of pretty pictures.

If it doesn't then there's still nothing for you to whin about other then the fact that they don't sell a silver version (which I do find bizarre). Like I've said, I've been there. I've done that. I've never whined like this over a deal falling through when the company I'm dealing with offered it to me FREE. That's being ungrateful.
 
did they give you a promise date? I can see being a little perturbed if the promise date has gone and went, and there is no case. But if it's new, you got no promise date and the company is trying to fulfill orders to make monies, then you have nothing to complain about. Be happy if you get it.

However now hes been waiting for nearly 3 months and so far no sign of it being ship out anytime soon. It seems OP is willing to have pay for the case rather than getting his hopes set high on a free case with an unknown shipping date.

After three months of waiting I'm sure just about anyone would be a tad bit annoyed.

But he'd have to wait anyway to buy it in his country... So he's perturbed that he didn't get a free case when he wanted it and offered to pay for it. O.K. that doesn't magically make it easy for Lian-Li to get it to him (Obviously, since it's not being SOLD in his area). If it's not readily available in his area, it's probably for a reason (granted shipping a single case and many cases is way different), so hoping for a free one early is a bit much.

Having high hopes on an unknown ship date or having to pay are his options (as you've stated), the former isn't normally an option to most people and the latter is what the scenario would be any other time. I'm confused on how we're being harsh when saying he shouldn't complain about a free case.

To the OP:

Yoinking a case off the assembly line before it gets painted but after assembly, then packing and mailing it to you all at no cost to you, but the cost of a case and shipping to them is something above and beyond what is expected. If they do it great that would truly raise my opinion of Lian Li higher (if that's possible, cause they're a great company), if they don't no biggie.

Also, so they don't keep the "promise" in the end. Whoopie dee do, you're literally the only person affected by this out come in a negative way (if zero change can be looked at as negative); it affects only you. No one else is going to care if you don't get your free case. Lian Li won't care, because they won't lose your business (you weren't paying to begin with and if you are willing to pay, then just wait). I will still look at Lian Li as quality craftsmen who make great cases and so will everyone else who already has that opinion because we're sane humans who know that free is never something to rely upon.

Matter of fact, if you do get your free case, I'll be pissed at Lian Li for not giving me a free one. I hope they don't give it to you.
 
It's screwed up BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO SOMETHING AND DID NOT.

That's why. Not that he did not get a free case. When I worked in retail doing something like that is just as bad as if they paid $1000 for something, it's all about what you appear to the customer. If you don't pull through that's a problem. Big time.

And by the way, I have a hard time believing his first name really is Hank.

Because everyone is telling OP to stop whining about a free case. It has already been nearly 3 months of waiting. For a modder that really puts someone behind schedule.

In OP's situation as I said before he was actually going to pay for the case. But since Lian Li offer to send him a free case and denied OP's offer for payments twice, OP decided to go for the free case route. However he would never have known he would still be waiting nearly 3 months later. I'm sure if we were all in his position we would have expected the case a lot sooner.

If he had known he would have to wait nearly 3 months I'm sure OP would have just gone ahead and order the case from China.

Now normally here (North Carolina, USA) it takes roughly 10-12 days to receive items from China. Not nearly 90 days.

I'm sure anyone who has gone through a similar situation, playing the patience game, has some built up frustration.

Lian Li offers you a free case, but you say you will pay for it, they refuse blah blah blah...
They are having issues getting you the case, yet you still wait for the free case..
Time goes by, you don't buy the case on your own because Lian Li promised a free case...
You're WILLING TO PAY, but continue to wait for this free case...

why don't you just go out and BUY one

FFS if they ever shipped it out AWESOME, TWO CASES

He lives in Europe (which might explain his "gimme now!" attitude), not the US. Europe has a shit-ton of import taxes when it comes to something like this so it wouldn't surprise me if Customs in some countries make getting something like this take 90 days or more. (BTW, I routinely get items from Hong Kong and it takes roughly seven/eight days here in Boulder, CO.)

But that doesn't detract from the fact that this is all on Lian Li's dime, if Cov had paid for it it would easily cost him three times (at least) the retail price, especially since the case isn't even released in Europe. He's be the first fucking person in the whole country to have one. For free.

That is why this is nothing but "whining."
 
The case is currently out of stock @ newegg and other etailers. I've been looking for one for an office build. I assume that production is slow, and/or it's taking longer than expected to ship them across seas.

I would advise keeping your cool, being patient, and being grateful that you were offered this for free.

But really, if I got lip from someone whom I was giving a free item to they would never get it. I'll just send them a box of shit instead.

Besides this, why have you harsh people ignored the fact that:

  • Lian Li does not reply anymore to any of my emails ?
  • The admin does not reply anymore to any of my postings on their forum ?
  • They gave me a promise with a time frame, which has been passed long, long time ago.
In that respect, it does not make any sense, that you consider the case to still turn up.

I can't come to any other conclusion, than that you're jumping down the throat of people you don't understand.

No, we call it "dealing with it".

Without knowing all the circumstances it sounds like someone made a promise they did not realize would be so easy to keep, so if you want to call something unintentional a "lie", then that would be your definition. Otherwise many would say he was having difficulty fulfilling his end of the agreement (if it was un-intentional of course)

On the same note, there's a phrase we use, it's called "you catch more flies with honey" and therefore that rep is less likely to hustle for you if you're giving him a round of shit, especially when other opportunities come up in the future. He may even be complaint-shy.

No need to take these replies personal either, we're random people in some random hardware forum that find arguing pretty funny, nothing personal meant by any of it ;).

Seriously, based on the emails you posted they didn't lie to you. The guy said he had to check in on it and have one specially made for you. Clearly the cases have a high demand or some kind of manufacturing issue because they are OUT OF STOCK EVERYWHERE. Shit. Don't you understand how this works? You're asking them to make it silver so they have to snag one of the Q7's before it gets painted and specially paint it silver for you WHILE almost trying to ramp up production so they can fulfill orders put in by all their retail partners. Your "request" and free case is going to be the least of their concerns, they're going to make sure they get as many cases out as possible to their retail people first cause they're actually getting money for their hard work.

Stop your whining. Lili didn't lie to you. You're making a mountain out of nothing. Deal with it.

You guys are too focus on the whole concept of a "free case". OP is not worry about a free case or not. He didn't even request it silver but it was Lian Li who bought it up.

It doesn't matter if the case is free or not. It is just bad business pratice to keep a consumer playing the patience game. Lian Li wanted to work out a deal with Cov where they send him a free case and in return he provides a project log to Lian Li.

It was Lian Li who suggest the deal. It was Lian Li who denied OP's payments. It was Lian Li who promise to ship OP a free case.

OP isn't concern about free case. He is discussing about Lian Li's business practices.

Shit, people promise all types of shit in life! If you father/mother promise you that bike for your birthday and you didn't get it, does that make them bad parents? Heck NO, SHIT HAPPENS! If Lian Li doesn't come through for the case, does that make them any less reputable? NO! And how in the hell you equate this with bad business practices is beyond me.

If a company makes a promise they should honor it. If they can't they need to come out and say they can't. That would be the professional thing to do rather than lead a consumer in a circle.

As said before if anyone here had to play the waiting game for nearly three months it would be normal to have some bulit up frustation.

Cov, are you a professional modder? Were you contracted by Lian Li to make a custom box? Did you sign any paperwork that said you will be provided a case within a set period of time? A bunch of emails between a Lian Li "rep" doesn't mean jack squat. Just learn to deal with it. And yes, what you're doing here is WHINING. You want some cheese with that?

If that's the case, that employee should be fired.

But I kind of doubt that is what is going on. Sadly, a lot of major companies simply don't care what people think, as long as their image as a whole is a positive one. That's not good and at my old job (sales, both wholesale and retail) people routinely got fired for not coming through for a customer. Often times when people did not pull through on "good will" freebies like what is going on here, that's even worse because it sends a very bad image in that a company just does not care unless it gets your money.

It's true, but it's just not right. Like I said, being an "ethical" salesman in a previous job I am kind of disgusted to hear about stuff like that, because it's something most salesmen and every rep I knew would avoid like the plague. Reps have a lot of pull with companies, they can get almost anything done if they put their mind to it. I have seen it happen.

This is just a stupid situation.

I am going to need to see your e-mails to make a decision to determine the extent of the whiningness, though. ;) What caused him to even offer you one anyway? It looks like you were begging/whining for one...

Looks like one rep overextended himself or someone over his head killed the program and there was nothing he could do about it. Lame that he couldn't own up to what happened, but he was never obligated to give you anything either and maybe you said the wrong thing. Either way - let it go.
