Just want a few opinions on the game. looks to be a fun shooter online. could probably take some of my COD4 time because i'm getting sick of the hackers in that game online.
 
I suggest waiting for this huge patch that will be coming out for UT3 then see how the game is.
 
UT3 itself is a pretty cool game. With the new HUGE patch coming out, it will be way better.
 
I just bought UT3 at my local Gamestop for $13. Registered it with Steam and it auto downloaded all patches. The Titan Pack patch will coming out tomorrow. I will play tonight for 1st time. I'll let you know how it goes....
 
It's a fair bit better than it was at launch and there seems to be a few servers for it, I installed it again the other day to see how the new patches have helped and they seem to be doing a good job. It all feels too little too late but if the playerbase picks up some more with the new free expansion pack then it might make a bit of a comeback.

And Punkbuster stops cheaters about as effectively as anti-piracy stops warez ;)
 
I bought it when it came out, and I play it off and on ever since. I use this when I've had a REALLY bad day and need to wind down. (Vehicle CTF, sniper rifle = happiness.)
 
I hope its better than the demo. that game was sooo glitchy for me.. Ive always been a huge fan of the Unreal and Unreal Tournament series too. I wish they would make another Single Player style game
 
I think it's pretty decent (PC version) and fingers are crossed that it will be even better with the new patch coming out. Planning on giving it a good run at the next LAN party.
 
if youre an unreal fan youll like it...i dig it. but i just dont play it enough. sucked into bf2 all the time, and l4d lately. but ut3 is fun to just run around and blast on stuff
 
It's just like the last couple of Unreal games but with better graphics. Performance is pretty good for a game that looks that good. Not ground breaking, but probably worth the $20 that most places are charging for it. Once the big patch comes out, I'd guess MP will pick back up a lot.
 
i can get it used for $12 from sombody on here...

i've never played any unreal games, so i'm in for it. lol

when i see somebody with 54 kills, and 7 deaths, theres no WAY they are that good. Not saying i'm great either, cause i'm not, but i'm nowhere near horrible. I can easily maintain a 1:1 Kill:death ratio, but when I play with these guys, i'll be dead right after i spawn 6 out of 10 times. I'll lay out 7 shots with a heavy machine gun on someone, and they don't die from point blank range.

my ping is usually below 100, which is fine for COD4. I've played upto a 150 ping and i was fine.
 
Ping below THIRTY is fine for FPS and 54/7 is not a sign of hacking. Pretty sure you're just really, really bad.
 
I tried it and it was just good - definitly lacks the magic which UT 1 had.
 
I bought it on release because i'm a fan of UT, but i only played about 20 hours...

I reloaded my PC about 5 months back, and haven't re-installed UT3 yet.

You're going to lose even worse than that when you start playing UT3. It's faster paced, knowing the maps is even more important, and most of the people who still play it are very experienced. It has a higher hardcore to noob ratio than CoD4.

Essentially.... noobies get dominated early and often and quit very quickly. Thusly the UT series generally has a small community

lol, CoD4 is easy enough without hacks.

You probably already know this but CoD4 has a hit detection marker, if you actually hit them the marker actually pops up. If it didn't, it means you missed. It could have been lag, a bad server, or you just plain missed.
Not everyone TRIES to maintain a high kill:death ratio. Some people are messing around, some are trying to do achievments, unlockables,etc. It's extremely easy to get a score like 50-5 in normal games. M16, red dot, 1 click=dead. Air strike, 3+kills, heli, 5+ kills. I'm sorry but if you can't maintain at least a 2:1 ratio, either you're not trying to do it or you're bad at the game. Don't just blame hacks until you have proof.

Not always hacking, just one player's good compared to all the others. I never have and never will use any hacks, and here's what I managed to do one day with a sniper rifle + juggernaut. All the other team did was try to use a sniper rifle without stopping power, over, and over, and over.

Now, when they're blatantly shooting you through walls, THAT'S hacking.

Allow me to give you some advice, though. Try the following build:

Skorpion + silencer
Deserteagle
Stun
Bandolier
Sleight of Hand
Extreme Conditioning OR Steady Aim

Zero recoil, huge damage, real fast reload, huge accuracy, don't know why more people don't use it.

A better analogy would be something like "punkbuster stops cheaters about as effectively as my foreskin stops bullets". Something nice and vulgar like that to really hammer the fact that PB is a complete fuck idiot fuck stupid bitch fuck, and nothing of any use to anyone.

Yeah, they are genuine. They DEFINITELY are. It really isn't hard to be good at CoD4 - I'm nothing special, and when i still played I topped that with ease. I would tell you to look at some videos of Dignitas matches, but you really don't need to - if you think 54-7 on a public server is outrageous, take a look at ANY good clan. Seriously, you don't even need to be in a good team to play like that, it's a piece of piss to get a better ratio that that against mongoloid pubbers bumping off walls and looking at the floor, the only reason I say to look at a clan's videos is because they'll be easier to google. If you don't find someone on every server with a ratio like that there's something going very wrong.

I know I just said PB is about as much use against cheaters as margerine is as fuel for the space shuttle, but that's really not to say that everyone with a good score is cheating. It's not a hard game to be good at. Think of it like CS: easy to dominate on public servers, but if you put these boys with 54-7 ratios up against people of similar ability you'd see things evened out pretty sharpish.

I'm going to have to agree with everyone else and say you need more experience. I have went 112-0 before using bangolier/sniper combo. CoD4 is an awesome game but I really think they need to add another gametype where airstrikes and helo's are not an option though Im sure they might have mods out.

tonight im really off. i averaged a 1:2 kill death ratio...

i can't figure out why im so bad though. one match i just kept getting pounded with an airstrike. wtf?!
 
Being called a cheater or hacker whenever there is that large of a skill gap is the ultimate of compliments. People called me a hacker sometimes when I awp'd it up CS:S. I've been called a hacker in Warcraft 3 also.
 
Great game even now...
Multi isn't as good as 2004 was but it's still great and practically free.

tbh UT3 is alright. its not as bad as some people say but because it has such a terrible response to some people, others tend to avoid this game at all cost due to the hating on this game but tbh, there are FARRRR worse games then this that dont get slated that bad.
i think people had high expectations for this game thats why.

You should check out quake live. It matches you with people your own skill level, so you're not constantly getting owned by pros. TF2 is also a good casual FPS.

TF2 i'm pretty average in. it did help a little i think.


my problem is not that I can't make as many kills. its that I'm constantly dying, and I can't figure out why. its one thing when I'm getting pounded by an airstrike every time i spawn, but sometimes I'm hiding behind tons of cover, and BAM, i'm dead...

it sucks.

Situational awareness.

On topic, I still haven't picked up UT3 but I'm tempted. I LOVED the original and played the hell out of it, although I never really got around to UT2k4 (stupid WOW obsession). I really miss the fast-paced action of the UT type games. It's also fun because it's much harder to be a great player in a game like UT (compared to most standard FPS games), so doing well is a little more rewarding than killing a bunch of 12 year olds in CS.
 
Just buy it. Others have already mentioned that it can be had real cheap now. The latest patch should improve most of the stuff people complained about.

How is it not? Punkbuster isn't god-like, I actually had someone send a link to me just as I was about to quit COD4 (which got hella boring to me, I realized I hated war gameS). It's still in my Yahoo! inbox, it's this "injector" that bypassed Punkbuster, let me see through walls, removed recoil, autoaimed, and a whole ton of other stuff that got me banned soon as someone with Kill-cam caught on lol.
 
well, tried my hand at it again tonight. ugh i get so frustrated with the game now.

44 kills, 16 assists, 64 deaths...

most of the assists can be turned to deaths, since i'll get 3 or 4 shots on someone, and someone shoots the 5th and he's dead. i started maintaing a 1:1 kill death ratio after i got around 20 kills. so had i started the game from that point i probably woulda done a bit better.

i wish i didn't even have to point this crap out to even find some good in my skills. i just suck that bad its so frustrating
