Anyone that owns an Ultra 750W X2 PSU might want to take a peek under the label. It seems that one Ultra 750W X2 owner got a bit of a surprise when he look under the label of his 750W X2…he found a 550W label. No word as to why there is a 550W label under the 750W X2 label but we had a similar issue crop up during our Ultra 750W X2 evaluation.

I'd definitely be suspicious to see that label on a PSU in the first place. I wonder if the manufacturer will replace no questions ask, to save face.

At any wrate, that's screwed up...

Maybe they just used left over cases that already had 550w stickers on them.

sad thing is he will probably get the run around and say he voided some warranty or something by tampering with the documentation and labels or some crap....

I have an Ultra X3 1000W, which actually got a good review and a Silver Award from [H]ard|OCP. Hearing this about the Ultra X2 750W makes me question my purchase.

Something doesn't smell right with this.

This guys is 100% correct.

I originally thought neither of my units were like this as one clearly was not. However, when I sat here looking at the review images something looked wrong so I pulled out the second unit and voila.

Wow!!! sh*t's about to hit the fan big time...

I actually should apologize for missing this. I don't know why I didn't think to peel back the label on both units when I was originally reviewing this product. Either way though the units died, badly.

Hell, why stop there. Peel off the second label, see if it's actually a 400W unit. :p

Sure, all they will do this time however is make sure the 550W sticker is not on there in the first place, and just put the 750W on there alone.

Wow...I guess they thought they could get away with it seeing how most people don't really need all the 750W anyways.

I had a 550W die on me. I'm not sure what would have happened if I tried to use it when I thought I had 750W at my disposal.

ya until a year later they buy a nice fat GPU and find out their PSU isnt enough

this is why i have never trust UltraCrap PSU's from their first PSU's that would just die and take your whole rig with them

I think [H] should contact them directly if not alreadfy see what lame excuses they have

Just because the sticker is on there(the 550W one),how do you know you have either a 550W or the so-called 750 one? That's crazy how that was found out!

It seems the fire extinguisher may have to be included hardware with that PSU now.

What I find surprising is that anyone actually buy's Ultra's PSU's.

They have had a few decent ones here and there, but yeah they are a brand to avoid.

Anymore I just stick with Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, or Silverstone, and then only units that have been tested and passed at [H] or JonnyGuru

Well not quite, the PSU's just failed, no fireworks.

I think if you had one of those Best Buy PSU's you would need a serious heavy duty fire extinguisher.

I have kinda wondered/hoped Hardocp would review more of the Best Buy or other consumer grade PSU's, but considering the damage done by the previous test I wouldn't blame them if they never went near them again.

sorry to see this, but my 800w X3 has been nothing but stellar for my needs. Id buy it again. Id hope Ultra has a response to this and does the right thing.

Go go class action lawsuit!!

if no one has sued them for the crappy PSU as a 750 I can't see them doing it for mislabeling, after all it was already mislabeled. as Paul clearly showed, its not even a 550watt psu

That's just wrong. But we all know Ultra will just remove the 550w sticker and leave the whole thing as is.

lol thats what i'm saying bro I wouldn't touch an Ultra PSU if you paid me!

And I laughed at all my friends that ever suggested I buy anything from them.

heh, well the funny thing is that JonnyGuru used to be an adamant supporter of Ultra and would defend them night and day on this forum. dunno where he stands on them now though.

Ouch. This isn't going to be a small thing they can sweep under the rug. It's going to be a huge deal that may break Ultra. It's not a small "Oops". It's a "We fucked the consumer in the ass" thing.

Ultra = No Buy. Enthusiast market, PC techs, PC shops... It's done.

I hope more sites get wind of this, no one should be buying Ultra PSUs and vendors shouldn't be carrying them.
