HP 24" W2408H (refurbished) $200 shipped

Hey guys - what custom RGB color settings/constrast settings have you found work to make this monitor most accurage in color reproduction. I find it (like many gloss screens) to be overly vivid.

Also -- I downloaded the software called HP My Display. It reveals my buy.com purchase as a w2408. But the w2408 has the DVI input, and the w2408h has the HDMI input. I have the HDMI input - so do I have the wrong firmware for my w2408h?

Mine arrived while I was at work, took me all of 2 mins to hook up! This is a VERY nice monitor, it's so bright I gotta wear shades! Very nice transaction, somebody from
Fedex even called me about 7am this morning while I was sleeping outside of my job
in the car and asked if I was going to be home to accept! The Fedex guy
said, "I got a 24" TV for ya!" Anyway, this thing looks BRAND NEW, not a scratch
on it. It's VERY glossy to me and very bright, had to turn it down to about 38 and it's
still very bright.
This monitor destroys my 22" V7. Unlike others, my stand looks brand new also,
everything works and it looks great. I do wish the stand was black, but it's
no biggie. I was going to move up to something bigger, but this is a very nice
size and anything bigger is going to fall of my desk!

I ordered mine on the morning of the 17th, it "shipped" the next day (in buy.com's terminology for apparently not shipping). Estimated delivery the 23rd. On the 23rd it was actually picked up by FedEx. Supposed to be delivered today but sometime between leaving Portland, OR at 11:12PM last night and now, it apparently vanished during its 10 mile trek up the interstate to my city. Apparently the can't make it across one bridge as it still says "Departed FedEx location" and I have no monitor. It's also amazing how long it takes to move up one state from California, Holiday or not.

Took Fedex 6 days to update my status from Departed FedEx location also.

But hey, I eventually got it.
Hot damn, was it worth it. This thing looks amazing. LEAGUES ahead of my old 19"

Well hopefully this means it's ready for delivery now...interesting tracking though.

Dec 31, 2008 5:55 AM At local FedEx facility PORTLAND, OR

Edit: Now my tracking number has gone away..."Not tracked

OP here, just got mine hooked up (was in Iraq when originally ordered) and all's well.

Samsung panel. Noice! Didn't think it would be that much bigger than a 22", but it's well noticeable.

Edit: text seems a little blurry, but this is out of the box without touching anything

Are you using the digital input or vga? Text should never be blurry with digital unless you aren't using the native resolution or your videocard settings are messed up.

I'm hoping it's due to calibration... but I have an issue with viewing photos on this monitor.
Many of our older (2 Megapixels) or over/under exposed photos have a dithered look to it. Doesn't seem like an issue with the 20" IPS monitor that this may be replacing...

Any ideas?

Yeah I'm not native res. It's nice and readable... I'm thinking the only reason I even notice it is because it's so "big" versus my 22" text... Not even close to a deal breaker for me...

fired up Fallout 3.... everything ultra quality at 1080p.... wow. Viewing angles actually come into play this thing is so big, had to move the monitor about some to get the best "straight on" view.

Edit: Viewing angle sucks bad for me. Even straight on I lose the top inch... might need to run the HP calibration program = here's hoping that fixes it.

I installed the driver prior to connecting the 2408 and installed the utility after the reboot. would this be called "blur"?

Drakan290, what calibration settings are you using?

All those settings: Brightness, Contrast, Color Space, etc....

Just that many of our photos now look slightly 'surreal' (if that makes sense).

Finally got mine picked up - went to the warehouse myself. Can't use the digital input yet until my 25ft hdmi cable comes but it looks pretty good on vga at 1920x1200. Have one pixel whose red is dead so I'm going to attempt massaging it back to life but it's along the edge so no worries. Typical annoying viewing angles but it's nice. I got a Samsung panel in mine.

What model does your MY HP drivers state your monitor is? Mine is a w2408h based on the digital HDMI input - but the software shows it is a w2408 - w2408 and w2408h are two different models so I'm curious what others software shows.

I got the LG Panel, not sure what the deal is between this and the Samsung is. I've had it for 2 days now and it's still impressing me, very nice. I really don't give a crap about the globe sticker on the front, matter of fact I like people to think it's some cheap knock-off! I REALLY like the stand, does everything I want it
to do, my last stand was a one-trick pony with no adjustments.

Quick question, will a premium hdmi cable make any difference? I'm using the basic cable
and don't have a problem, but I would like to upgrade if it will make a diff.

Only if you have insane lengths of cable and are getting no picture on the monitor. In this case, thicker wire is good. Otherwise, digital is either there, or it's not.

Thanks, I figured that. I went ahead and got a premium cable from http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp anyway because they are so cheap! I always liked premium cabling,
even though it probably does NOTHING for better signal. I got the DVI to HDMI cable.

I bought a bunch of cables from Monoprice when I was setting up my parents HT. The coax interlink looked very nice, but don't recall if they were premium or not...doubt it.

I'm sure i didn't get premium HDMI...and thank god for htat, since the Cable company didn't support HDMI on their end (radioshack got more for a DVI->HDMI connector than all of the monoprice cables combined....unfortunately when they needed them this summer it seems they'd tossed them out.....and possibly the spare bulb that Sony provided for the TV (150.00 (300 of they buy retail) down the drain) as well.....10 dollars in tossed cables turned into almost 100 bucks to replace them :(

Paying retail makes me feel dirty and required months of expensive therapy to get over.

I been reading through this thread and ppl have been saying they got a samsung or a lg panel with on their debranded 24" lcd. I just received a debranded 2207h (22") today, still in the box, haven't got around opening it yet. How can you tell which panel you got?

Little bit of googling will find you ur answer Sir_Poop_Alot what brand is your offbrand?

It's called TS Series Display. They basically cover the HP logo with a world "wireframe" logo and the "HP w2207h" with a sticker "SVGA Color Display". It's look quite nice especially with the HDMI connection :)

You have to go into the menus on the display to find this.

You have to go into the menus on the display to find this.

On the "information" panel of the menu of the display it display the following information. I have no idea what this means.

version GTMH3.7

Where my HP w2207 has the version ATMD2.3.

So what does all this mean?

Anyone who had to RMA this monitor : How long did it take to get the replacement? I've got to RMA mine since it does something REALLY weird now instead of showing a picture.

Before I hooked it up to my home desktop (using it for PS3 and VGA output on a laptop) when it had no signal it would just flash the same color pattern, changing every few seconds.

now, since I've gotten it home and up to my home desktop, hooked up via VGA, it died out a couple of times (power cycles saved that), but now it ONLY displays an entirely different color pattern. first white, then grey, and then 3 lines of color gradients from top to bottom, then black. Doesn't get any signal at all now.

Is there a fix for this or do I pretty much HAVE to RMA?

So what does all this mean?

Turn the screen off. Hold the Menu button and turn it on. Release the Menu button. Once the monitor powers on, press Menu again to bring the menu up. There will be a Service item. Under the Service menu item, at the very bottom is the panel.

Now there is a second hidden menu - hold Menu and + when turning it on. Release the buttons afterward, just like above. Press Menu again and the main menu will come up on the left hand side. Press menu again and a hidden menu appears. This menu lets you select which panel type you have...so I have no idea if the display can actually tell you which panel you have.

^ Damn. :O

Reminds me when trying to get a chick's bra undone. So damn difficult these days.

I have the 22" model of this monitor (hp2207). I really like it and the picture is absolutely gorgeous. However, it is a tn panel and to some that is a negative. The bezel is a piano gloss finish and from an aesthetic standpoint, the monitor is attractive.

For $200 though, this is a smoking deal. The stand for this thing is incredible and has a height and tilt adjustment. I'm considering this for a dual monitor setup with my existing 22". How cool would that be!

Thanks Op

I got your monitor as a refurb from buy.com, peel the labels off and it's an HP w2207h.

It does have one bad pixel, but oh well. I was thinking about an RMA but I decided against it. I hardly notice it. Otherwise the monitor is wonderful. Cost was $139.99 with free shipping. I'm using it to type this.

That's a lot of steps. I'll give it a go when i get home from work :) Thanks for the instructions!

i got the 22" version of this and paid $149 for it. I also have a HP 2207 which is the earlier model of this (without hdmi). Let me tell you that this is a great monitor for the price. Yeah it's a TN, so what, can't bet the price. The stand with the tilt and height adjustment is worth more than $50 imo. Get it. You can see my setup at the following thread.

Hey guys, they have this monitor over at geeks.com
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=TS-24W8H-R&cat=MON
I'm thinking about biting on this since I missed the better deal on buy.com

Anyone else get theirs? I want a little more feedback from new owners, I'm kind of skeptical about the refurb tag.

"We only have 138 of the part # TS-24W8H-R available at the Geeks price of $229.99"

And those won't last long... :)

I just got an HP 23" L2335 from Geeks.com just last week, refurb'ed, and I love it love it love it... some people got particular ones with what seems to be excessive backlight lifespan on 'em so they tend to suffer from the "well known pink hue" issues that model suffers/suffered from. I guess I got lucky as mine's showing 19291 on the panel and 2960 on the backlight - that's basically around 14% usage since the LCD was first powered up at the factory.

I did spend some time yesterday doing research on a replacement backlight if needed, found one from here:

http://www.lcdparts.net/ccfldetail.aspx?ProductCCFL=MS30520

for $20 or so, and I've replaced hundreds of backlights over the years so this won't be an issue IF at some point I need to do it. But for the moment, I'm extremely pleased with this monitor. I've been buying refurb stuff from Geeks.com for 2 years or longer now, and I've never had one instance where I got a refurb and was dissatisfied with the product. I went into the purchase knowing it could be bad or in horrible shape - from hard drives to mobos to optical drives, now LCDs and other stuff too - but I simply haven't had issues.

I ordered this LCD on Tuesday last week, it was here on Thursday (they ship from California and I'm in Nevada) so that was a bonus too. :)

If you're not happy with the purchase, Geeks.com obviously honors their own policies... it's worth taking a chance on it, I'd say.

mine shows 2 in the backlight menu....that was after I been using for a 1 or 2 hours after setting the thing up.

2, as in 2 hours on the Display settings counter in the Service menu? That could only happen if someone reset it before you got your hands on it, or... you got a brand spankin' new one that was never used before. :)

If that's the case, very lucky for you, but I seriously doubt it's absolutely brand new and was reset somewhere between leaving the HP factory after being refurbed and getting to your desktop.

2 hours... wow, that would be awesome... :)

both of mine had 0 hours on both that I bought from buy.com on the original "famous" rebranded w2408h deal --- which I would assume mean they were reset at the refurb center....
