Core i7 exprience

Ok could I get a list of tests that I will run on Monday night. Today I am at work for a few hours and then heading off to the Redskins vs. Cowboys game.

Athlon,

I have been following this thread very closely. Great start so far and I hope you enjoyed last nights game, I did!
How bout them Cowboys!
LMK, if there is anything you would change. I am considering the RE2, I7 Extreme, 2x280's and the RAM has yet TBD.

this thread is like a bunch of teenage boys huddled around the first one who got laid

You know, come to think of it, I've always wondered if this happens with teenage girls as well. Just throwing that out there.

Thats my X-FI Live drive cable, its going out tomorrow as I just picked up an x-fi pci express titanium.

I have the same product, but with my current setup I get that statis once in a while with Vista x64. With your current setup, did you ever get this static?

this is what my i7 would look like:

I'd go with a more reliable TB HDD than the Samsung. I have 4 of the 1TB seagates and they run cool and quiet.

Just my thought's though.......otherwise it looks solid man.

Looking good AthlonXP.

I ended up canceling my order on the 920 and ordered it from mwave. Almost $40 cheaper than through my vendor here at work. That's the last thing i'm waiting on, so mine should be up and running next week.

BTW, Jab-tech has the thermalright 1366 kit in stock.

...for folks who do not have a LGA 775 TRUE or NH-U12....moddersmart has the NH-U12 1366SE in stock (basically a NH-U12 + 2 NF-P12 Fans + 1366 Mountin Kit + Thermal Paste) for $65

I have my thermalright adapter coming in today. I will install it tonight and report back in temps. Right now with my current setup in sig my idle temps are 39c for all 4 cores and when running prime 95 it goes up to 85c.

AthlonXP,

Got the same case! Well the newer V1000Z version where the board is in the standard upright orientation. Haven't even removed it from the box yet, been waiting for the i7. Two things. Are you happy with its airflow? Also how did you remove the second HDD cage (or was there ever a second on in there in the first place), I have the 1000w Corsair also. It looks like it can be unscrewed but the lip on the edge of the case will prevent it from sliding out. Hopefully its easy cause I do not want to use that stupid extension bracket. Thanks!

I just ordered that NU-U12 yesterday, seemed like a great deal with the two fans and according to the reviews one of the top coolers

Just got my kit in the mail today, I will post up temps later on today.

Ok with my TRUE 120 Extreme on this chip and the voltage set to 1.3375 and the cpu running at 180x20 (3.6ghz) I am getting a high temp of 66c running prime 95 compared to the Mid 80's I was getting with the stock heatsink!

Ambient temp? Cooler in case? Case closed etc?

Im thinking about droping the coin on an i7 build i would of course get the 965 extreme, but im going to wait for a few to watch what happens with availability and everything else to settle.

Expect the dust to settle in the next few weeks.

Any reason you are going with the 965? Just curious cause I have been stuck between that and the 920. However with how easy the 920 can OC and from what I have read both max out around the same speed, I am leaning towards the 920.

Well i built a pretty nice rig on newegg to see where it would come to and it was only $2,500! AND thats with the 965! that would have been impossible with the qx9770 or whatever they were trying to sell for $1,500.

So I posted these in another thread but it seems this thread is very popular and everyone goes here :)
Amazing chip these i7s are.

My first attempt of simply upping the bclk and setting uncore to x16. Everything is on the stock cooler on stock volts because d-tek is fail on the 1366 pro-mount.

So then I messed around in the bios upping VTT by 0.02 (VTT at 1.22V now) and blck to 175.

I tried 180 bclk and it boots into windows but not prime stable at stock volts and no way i'm juicing it up on the stock cooler.

I don't think i'm going to push any further until I get a block mount.

Very nice, I have all my computer parts except for my damn motherboard. I even have my noctura core i7 cooler.

If you're desperate enough for water to jump brands, jab-tech has the swifttech GTZ 1366 holddown plate for sale now.

I'm able to get 3.8 GHz on an i920 on air cooling with 59 C max load.
This is a TRUE 120 with AS5 on a gigabyte x58 extreme board.

My gtx 280 on the other hand gets to 92 max furmark and 85 in crysis warhead.

I got 3.6GHz on the stock cooler with 1.28v. I could boot with 1.25v. The CPU test in 06 would freeze half way through though. 1.28v cured that.

I got idles in the high 40s and load for normal applications is in the mid 60s. No, I'm not going to bother dropping prime on my CPU with the stock cooler.

I am eager to get my Ultra Extreme installed again. I will be shooting for 3.9 and if it takes more than 1.375v to hold it, I probably won't bother.

That CMOS reset button is nice. It's saved me some trouble a few times.

So far I like this 920 and the Foxconn mobo a lot. I'll be able to test SLi as soon as I get a flexible SLi bridge.

On a side note, my Evga vanilla GTX 260 can do the same clocks as my XFX, or that is 730 with a 1532 shader clock. Can't wait to test 'em in SLi. :)

So I wanted to bump this up and give everyone a heads up that my rig is running excellent and with the extra ram in now , I might turn off page filing.

Cool deal Athlon.

my machine is 90% together.. everything is done, cables run and sleeved, just waiting to drop my new psu in and power it on for the first time..

I too am waiting on parts, the main bulk tomorrow hopefully (all the innards), I have the V8 cooler already, the case is showing up Wednesday...so tomorrow I shall be bread boarding to make sure it all works.

RealTemp is always a work in progress. Save that link as that is where the latest beta is always hiding.

Version 2.90 isn't official yet but it's getting pretty damn close.

I like the new Load meter as well as the more thorough Sensor test. It makes it a lot easier to spot a sticking sensor as well as a few other things.
There is growing evidence to suggest that Intel might deliberately be using a slightly higher TJMax on core2/core3 of many Quads compared to core0/core1. The screen shot is while running Prime95 with the heatsink fan turned off. TJMax = 100/105 looks about right for this CPU as well as many other Quads. There are some 45nm Quads where the TJMax difference between cores may be as high as 10C. TJMax is definitely not a fixed value and Intel has admitted that. I just wish they'd release what the TJMax range is between two processors of the same model.
