The folks at tkArena have posted a review of Google’s Chrome Beta 1. Those of you that haven’t given Chrome a try yet should give this a read.

The browser’s first beta went live on the 2nd of September (2008). I reviewed Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and Opera 9.5 a few weeks ago so when I heard about Google Chrome, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this brand new browser. So I downloaded it, installed it and I’m still using it today. To find out how this browser stacks up against Firefox and Opera, and to get to know the ins and outs of Chrome, you’re going to have to read on.

it needs a bookmarks drop down that doesn't require the entire bookmarks tool bar to be displayed. It's a pain in the ass... I hate bookmarks toolbars, waste of space. One little menu button is so much more efficient.

I totally agree that an ad blocker is necessary.. I forgot how many ads there are online until I started running Chrome.

couple friends said the smae, installed it, and a day later ditched it, i havent even bothered with it, IE and FF do what i need, i have no reason to try yet another browser.

good luck on the ad blocker as that's Google income source.

Ad's also support your favorite places on the web, places such as the [H].

I can't believe in this day of 10Mbit broadband service and Dual Core CPU's, people are still crying about ads.

I like bookmark toolbars, so that's a non-issue for me. I still have Chrome installed, but I use Firefox as my main browser still, due to some of the plugins. IE is CRAP and I only use that when it's absolutely necessary. Quite simply, I'd use Chrome over IE any day, but FF still reigns as my browser of choice.

Chrome is fast and simple. Sometimes, that's all people are looking for.

Downloaded, installed, have not used FF or IE since.

I am happy with Chrome. Maybe I do not push it as hard as you folks, but it seems stable and fast.

The only things I do not like are that CNN videos do not load, and my bank ALWAYS asks for a new certificate. And I do not see a way to add words to its spell checker. But it IS a beta.

FF was fine, but at least on my setup it was prone to hanging and being unstable. Chrome seems more stable.

Just my $US0.02 :)

Chrome kicks ass. None of that girly addon shit to drag it down. Couple bugs, but not worse than FF or IE at this point.

What if the ad is a complete waste of bandwidth. IE poorly targeted, annoying, break the flow of the page etc

HardOCP's ads are nice because:
1. They are not intrusive
2. Since I'm at a hardware site I'm probably interested in buying computer hardware

other sites aren't quite so nice. Why should I let them waste their bandwidth in trying to sell me something I don't want. Advertisement needs to be effective or they shouldn't bother at all(and in the case of an adblocker the user decides whether that site's ads are effective).

What if the ad is a complete waste of bandwidth.

or trying to induce an epileptic seizure? look at myspace or a lot of other sites for that example. there are also the ones that start playing flash vids as soon as they load. yahoo also has some ads that even if you were to run your mouse cursor over them, they take up the entire page view until you click close. ads i want to look at (or support a site i've been on for years) stay on, ads i don't want to look at deserve to blocked. :p

Chrome seemed fairly polished to me. It'd be great if I wanted a fast bare-bones browser. However, I can't do without my Firefox plugins.

I have absolutely no problem with the kind of ads at this hardocp website here. They just resides at one corner of the page and does not obscure

I only dislike the ones that pop up and fill the entire screen and we have to click on the "skip the ad" to continue browsing.

And the funny thing is that said ads didn't work in Google Chrome, lol. I can actually browse a forum as a free member without having the ads poping up at every page I open.

Chrome is awesome, love it. With a few more refinements it is going to leave every single other browser in its dust.

Installed it, tried it, uninstalled it.

In Windows i use either IE8 Beta or FF3 (beta like a times), this will not replace any of those.

Either way, Chrome is light, fast, and renders everything properly.

Quite honestly I don't see the blazing fast speed that some make it out to be... on 5 different machines.

Think it's more akin to a placebo effect.
