Do you remember your first graphics card?

ok, speaking of video cards, i found this... TOO FUNNY:D

1st Graphics Card
a 2MB ISA Hercules card that was HUUUGE

1st 3D card
Diamond Monster 3D 4MB for $150 at CompUSA in 1997.

My list of graphics cards (both 2D and 3D) that i've owned is as follows:

2MB ISA Hercules
1MB S3 64 PCI (it couldn't run at as high resolution as the hercules due to less memory but it was probably at least twice as fast in 2d)
4MB Diamond Monster 3D (3dfx voodoo chip)
16MB Asus Riva TNT
Dual Orchid (who remembers those?) Righteous Voodoo 2 12MB in SLI
32MB Creative GeForce DDR
64MB GeForce 2 Ultra
128MB PNY GeForce TI4600
128MB Radeon 9800 Pro 256bit
512MB Radeon x1950xtx
512MB GeForce 8800GTS G92
1024MB GTX 280

I found this in my basement a few months ago.

My first card of note was a Tseng Labs ET4000. LOL!

16MB Voodoo Banshee. Still got it but i'm too lazy to take a pic. Man, i miss the good ol' days. mid/late 90's were the best times in PC gaming IMO

Bought my first computer back in 1995. A crappy Packard Bell P75 with onboard Trident 1mb graphics. I upgraded later to a 2mb Matrox Millenium and an Orchid Righteous 3D 4mb 3DFX card

ATI 9600SE ---> ATI 9800XT ---> ATI X1650Pro ---> ATI X1650XT ---> NV 8800GTS SC 640MB ---> 8800GT SSC 512MB (current in one computer) ---> 9600GT SC (current in another computer).

Then my dad bought me a Radeon 9700 Pro in 2002. big thing that really bothered me in games before that card was all the jaggies. Back then I was a complete n00b. Then I turned on something called antialiasing and just about died when I loaded up a game and saw smooth edges.

ATI Xpert@Play 98'. Got it when I was 12 :)

I remember being so wow'ed by the 3d Demos included on the cd. I installed it into a computer with a Cyrix MII 300 Processor, damn that was awhile ago...

Riva 128ZX... Started playing Q3 on it... But upgraded to a GF in three months time... And since then the cycle hasn't stopped...

Does Sis 6326 qualifies as a Gfx card... Its was a PCI based card hence the question...

wow man this thread is bringing back some fond memories:

Voodoo 3 3000 > Geforce 2 MX > Geforce 2 GTS Pro > Geforce 3 > Geforce 4 TI4600 > Radeon 9800 pro > Geforce 6800 Ultra > Geforce 7900GTX > Geforce 8800GTS 640MB > Geforce 8800GTX and then SLI 8800GTX > Geforce 280GTX

There were two. The system had an Ati Mach64 Turbo and a Monster 3D (3dfx voodoo 1)

Trident 8900 ISA with 512K, if I remember right. Perfect match for my 386 DX 25

Hmm, think it was an ATi 3D Rage II or something. Played Mechwarrior 2 really swell. :)

Mechwarrior 2! YES! Loved that game! I tried to play over the modem with a friend numerous times... Never had a steady connection... LOL

I can't remember the name of the card, but it was to play Ultima Online back in 1997. It was 150 or 200 at the time.

STB Lightning II with Tseng 2000 chip.

I remember the first time I fired up Ultima VII after installing that thing and the Butterfly on the intro screen moved five times faster than it had been with the old card.

First 3D accelerator was S3 Virge. Followed closely by a 3Dfx Voodo 1 which was by Orchid. GLQuake FTW!

Still have my two Orchid Monster II cards. Original SLi! Heh.

ATI 3D Expression 2MB, which later got upgraded to a Hercules Stingray 128bit 3D Voodoo 8MB all-in-one card.

I was like 12-13, my cousin bought me a Voodoo 1 so I could play GLQuake :)

After that, I went to a Voodoo 3 >> geforce 2 mx 64 >> Radeon 9800 pro >> 7800 gtx >> HD4870

6 cards in 10-11 years, sounds about right.

God I remember mine.. bought it at ebgames too. Just so I could play Turok.

Voodoo Rush!

since then
Voodoo 1, voodoo 2, geforce 3, radeon 9700, x850xt, x1800xt, 8800gt

My first PC was a 386 DX40 with 4mb ram, I'm not even sure what video card it had. I was 10 and it was the first PC I cut my teeth on.

Now the first PC I picked out myself that my parents bought was a P133 16mb ram, I can't remember which video card it had either, but I do remember upgrading it to a Matrox Millennium 4mb.

My 2nd PC that I built myself came with a 16mb Riva TNT STB card, never got in on the voodoo bandwagon :(

TNT2 (1999) > Radeon 32Mb (2000) > Radeon 8500 (64Mb) 2001 > 4400Ti (2002?) > 6800GT (2004) > Radeon 4850 (2008)

Just shows I got a lot out of the 6800GT, such an impressive run. Hopefully whatever I replace my 4850 with see just as long of a life.

My first card was a Canopus VooDoo for my 100mhz Pentium 1. Jedi Knight had never looked so good! :D

I have a vague memory of having one of those funny little macs, the ones with the 6 inch or so B&W screen...

My first computer that was all mine was a 286 running windows 3.0. I could play Wolf3d and commander keen, so it was fast enough! I'm not even sure what the graphics card was...

My first graphics card I can remember was an ATI Mach 64 (I think...), then I updated to a Diamond Monster 3d. I remember playing Quake2 with it installed for the first time...never been so blown away by graphics since.

GeForce 4 MX 440, only later did I find out how bad it was.
After that it was a Radeon 9800 Pro, X800XL, (which I had for 3 years!), then a 9800GTX

I had some cardinal ISA piece of trash. Worked great with the high end 386-25 I bought at the time (1991). Back then 16 colors was still a big deal.

Next system had a PCI Matrox Millenium with 2MB addon to go up to 4MB. I think that card is still running in a system at the last place I worked.

Wow... I don't know if I can remember that far back. I know the brand name was Paradise, and it had....wait for it....1mb of video ram. This was in my 386SX 8/16 Turbo that I paid almost $4,000 for back in 1987.

My first "3D" card was the Diamond EDGE 3D.

It was based on the Nvidia NV1 GPU and was god awful. It also functioned as an audio card and had a daughterboard to allow you to plug in Sega Saturn controllers.

Yea, Paradise was a series of VGA cards by Western Digital. I had two of them, an 8-bit one in my XT and a 16-bit one in my 386SX.

My first real 3d card was a Matrox Mystique. I believe it was the 2 or 4 meg version. It came with Scorched Earth, Demolition Derby (2?), and Mechwarrior 2. They were all enhanced editions that only worked with that card.

Too bad the card sucked for everything else. :p

i believe the first computer i actually owned had integrated graphics, an SIS 600 series I think. playing Sim City 4 on that was like amazing to me!

before that my mom had a pentium 166mhz computer, and I believe we had a 2 MB S3 card in it, but i cannot remember. when my uncle upgraded it to an 8MB 3d ACCELERATOR (which was mad expensive at the time) i was so stoked cause I could finally play Microsoft Midtown Madness, the best racing game to date! :D hahaha

my real graphics card was an Nvidia PCX 5750. PCI express version of an Nvidia 5700, hahaha. wow what a piece of junk it was.
then it died after 9 months.
and i bought an X850 pro (still wish i woulda bought an X800XL instead, thats what i was comparing to at the time).

in the past year i've gone thru more video card than i did at the time of my first integrated graphics PC! hahahah

Yep, Riva TNT2 or whatever it was called. I remember it running games really well :).
