When I was removing the CPU from the plastic clam thing, it popped out and dropped on the carpet. Thankfully, the plastic backplate protecting the cpu prevented the gold contacts from touching the carpet. I plugged in the CPU and it boots up fine and passed 5 minutes of 100% full load. CPU's will either work or they won't work right? Or is there some kind of middle ground? You guys think I will be ok?

Yeah, don't worry about it. As long as none of the pins are bent or anything there shouldn't be a problem.

They did, up until the socket 775 platform. Before that both Intel and AMD had pins.

I know, I've owned both and still do...but previous cpu's have no bearing on making sure his Q9450 has bent pins... that's my point - current Intel CPU's don't have pins.

Just a question: why is it fortunate the golden pins haven't touched the carpet?

:)
Ha, I was waiting for someone to say static:D
Then I would jump on them:p
I guess you DO have a better chance of it being broken by Gremlins than static from just dropping it on the carpet.

I treat mine as coins. :p:p
LOL

LOL

If these were REAL cpus like SPARC chips, breathing on them can whipe em out...

Also: ROFLZ @ Gremlins.

Make sure you don't rub a balloon against your head while playing CS:S, you may just pull through this disaster.

Personally i like to pet my cats and rub my feet on the carpet while wearing wool socks while opening my cpu packages. But thats just me. I hear it keeps the gremlins away. Then again, i have a VW which tends to keep the electrical gremlins busy.

5 second rule applies. As long as you got it off the carpet within 5 seconds, you are fine.
LOL.

VW lmao... the trunk(alarm) horn only works when the radio is left on!! I parked the car one day, turned off the radio, and hit the button to lock it up. The "armed" alarm horn didn't sound!
It took me most of the afternoon to track down that sneaky SOB gremlin lol...wtf. I got back in the car, and turned the power on. I made sure to leave the radio switched on when I turned it off. I hit the box, and the horn worked as normal! crazy

Almost right. These are the buggers you really got to watch for:

See, one of them has even stolen a CPU pin and sharpened it to use as a spear. You can tell by the shiny golden tip!

wait what?

Sun CPUS are fantastic man. Real performers when doing serious number crunching. But they are so incredibly sensitive - if you breath on it wrong you could fry it. Example, their Blade 1000/2000 series workstations come with torque screw drivers in the chassis for the CPUs because they have to have the perfect tension. If you take their SA exams for hardware / Work for them and open a machine with out a static strap or on a carpet - you would fail / be fired.

VW gremlins are the most stubborn of them all!
On my GTi engine light often reminds me I indeed have an engine!
:D

sounds broken, send it to me for further testing.

If it doesn't work I'll dispose of it for you properly.
