What does anyone know about the Samsung 305t+? I know its similar to the 305t, but what are the differences?

I was all set to buy the 305t, but it looks like the 305t+ is coming soon. (Its currently available in Europe.) All the information I could find online is in foreign languages.

Thanks

I'm very interested in the 305T+, too. I believe there are more inputs than the original 305T, but the screen is the same.

The Samsung website seems to suggest that the 305t+ has a lower maximum brightness (300 cd/m) than the 305t (400 cd/m). It also seems to have a different color range "102% CCFL PC", but I'm not really sure what that means.

see here: http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/consum...ype=intelligenceseries&model_cd=LS30HUXCB/XSH

I find it so strange that the monitor is available in Canada and Europe, but not in America, and that there simply no reviews or sensical official information about it. I even called Samsung directly and they had no information about a release date. I really would rather buy it from an American company.

Only difference seems to be the wider gamut. So for most people the older panel is better.

Isn't a wide gamut a good thing?

yes and no,
it can show a wider range of colors, a very nice thing if you work with print graphics.
But most content you see is optimized for sRGB standard gamut.
So everything will look more colorful, but not necessarily right, if you don't use a color aware application like photoshop.

That yes and no is like 1% yes and 99% no. The average user doesn't even have any wide gamut content. So most will get zero benefit. On top of that most normal content will displayed in the wrong gamut and look over saturated. Some may like everything over saturated. I don't. I ordered a 3007-hc and I am prepared to send it back if I can't get the color toned down properly. I would much rather that it wasn't wide gamut and just worked normally.

ok didnt want to make a new thread so did a search and found this one... long story short had an apple cinema 30" for 2 and a half years, tried out a dell 3007wfp-hc, now waiting on my order from tigerdirect for my samsung 305t to test out.

so while doing some searching on the net found some info, went to samsungs site searched up 305t, since the new 305t wasnt there on the U.S. samsung site, found this:

http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS30HUBCB/XAA&fullspec=F

I clicked the "download PDF" on the right side and found this:

http://www.samsung.com/us/system/consumer/product/2008/03/14/ls30hubcbxaa/T_Series_LR.pdf

The specs now say its 300cdm for brightness and now 102% gamut ?!?! for the regular 305t, the date on the pdf URL says March 14, 2008. Has samsung been shipping the newer panels out but still under the 305t model number??

the pdf url still has the older product #: ls30hubcbxaa

the 305t + (plus) is supposed to be #: LS30HUXCB/XAA

can anyone confirm that the new batches going out are the newer S-PVA panels? samsungs U.S. website still has the old specs BUT when you click on the pdf it gives the new specs?!?!?

Biggest drawback I see is the PVA- panel instead of S-ips.The only difference I know between the 305T and 305T+ is that 305+ supports HDCP

Funny that you say this the new review of the Samsung 305t from CNET says that it is HDCP compatible and the brightness is 300cdm as quoted here:

CNET review said:
On our contrast test, the SyncMaster 305T achieved a 999:1, which comes impressively close to Samsung's claim of a 1000:1 contrast ratio. And on our brightness test, the display actually exceeded Samsung's claims in our test by achieving a 355cd/m2 compared with its 300 cd/m2.

and cnet test it with bluray as quoted here:

CNET review said:
The viewing angle was very impressive as we did not notice a drop in picture quality no matter how angled our view was. Blu-ray and DVD playback were as good as we've ever seen, matching the same kind of high quality color we saw with the Dell Crystal. Both Kill Bill and Swordfish looked great with very accurate colors in test scenes that we viewed.

CNET did their review on 05/21/2008, link is here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/samsung-syncmaster-305t-lcd/4505-3174_7-32421462.html

So is Samsung shipping out 305t's with newer panels aka (305t+) and not renaming their porduct to 305t+ for the U.S. ??

Possible, they might just want to sell out their stock of 305T in Europe and once its empty they sell the 305T+ to the rest of the world under the same name as before. Perhaps the changes to the 305T+ are too small to motivate a whole new name and marketing.

probably you might be right.. when my 305t comes in I'll inspect and check if its the 102% gamut version...

Yup I was right received the 305t+ (plus) from tigerdirect.com even though their website stated just the regular 305t. The Samsung 30" i got was manufactrued in June 2008.

DSC06398.jpg

What gave it away was on the box the sticker said model: 305t, and the pruduct number (model code) was the same number as the 305t+ which is LS30HUXCB/XAA.

DSC06386.jpg

Then on the box itself it said that i indeed received the plus model by it saying "305t plus" and the plus was written in cursive as shown in this pic.

DSC06389.jpg

I then said yeah right this is just a box that says plus. Then when I unwrapped it layed it on my desk, and took out the white covering low and behold it said 305t plus on the upper left of the screen bezel as shown here:

The sticker on the right side of the screen showing the 305t product number:

Specs say "wide gamut" on it:

So I fired it up, and kept on saying to myself hope it isnt too saturated like the DELL 3007WFP-HC, then when it booted, checked out the white, they were super white not redish white like the DELL, reds are a bit saturated as well as the greens but I guess thats expected with a 102% gamut backlighting. Comparing the reds and greens to the DELL 30" HC these reds and greens are much less saturated and is probably calibrated from Samsung's factory already.

Monitor was set to its highest brightness so I just left it on so I can see it warm up to its brightess settings and see how long it takes, it didnt take very long maybe around 5-10 minues and its good to go.

Alot of older 305t reviews out there say that this monitor doesnt have a usb cable, well this one does and is included:

I am pretty sure this is HDCP compatible I dont have a blu ray player so I have no way to test this out, but according to CNET's review back in late May 2008 they managed to play blu rays on it.

Comparing this to the Apple Cinema 30" and Dell 3007WFP-HC, the S-PVA panel that samsung has is pretty good, nice rich blacks.. and I know albovin is going to say something about the gamma shift ;) yes there is gamma shift here is a video showing the turtle picture that albovin uses on his review:

Bottom line:

Apple Cinema 30" very good in colors has slight purple glow to it since its S-IPS slight sparkle effect not as bad as newer S-IPS, DELL 3007WFP-HC, colors over saturated, has white glow to it, very bad sparkle effect on screen very annoying. Samsung 305t+, hardly any glow, no sparkle effect, cant even notice it when I am typing this on a white background, yes gamma shift is there so you will miss some detail in dark lighting. Overall I am HAPPY with this Samsung 30" will take some time to get used to after using my Apple Cinema for 2 and a half years, and the DELL 30" just for one day, I think I can live with the Samsung 30" for the next couple of years.

For those wondering the 305t+ has no additional inputs:

Very nice. I'm now looking at my Samsung 2693HM which I got all of two weeks ago and thinking, meh, this thing is kinda small...

hehe ... well there is a saying once you go 30" you'll never go back....

here is a pic with the monitor on very high brightness:

The input lag is very high on this, correct? And no HDCP!

for the 305t its around 30ms input lag... I have no idea for the 305t+... but the 305t+ DOES have HDCP, and like I said before CENT reviewed the "305t" and played Blu Ray on it with problems.

30ms? Where did you get this from?

Ah yes, I remember seeing that now.

I was either going to get this, or the Dell's 3007WFP-HC, but I think I may go with LG's W3000H-BN instead. I hear it has a newer version of the panel used in both.

Seems low enough to me, especially considering DV always seems to have the highest reported input lag of any site I've seen. Means probably real world 1.5 frames, definitely less than two.

Good luck VideoMasterz. Does this thing run hot or is it ok? Just asking because most 30" IPS monitors run pretty hot. Ie. is the panel quite warm to the touch or just a bit warmer than your hand is what I'm curious about.

I'll be getting the LG from Futureshop also, which means no risk!

I doubt that I'll be returning this, but if I do, I may look into the 305t.

I'm still a little doubtful on the input lag, as I hear anything Samsung+PVA= High input lag.

thanks! this panel has been on for 5 hours so far and I turned down the brightness about 5 notches, meaning I pressed the down arrow at least 5 times. I can feel some heat if I put my had on the top of the monitor where the gills are or ventlalation holes.

When I touch the panel it isnt really hot almost same temperature as my finger, but I put my had about 1.4" inch away I feel some heat but it isnt that hot. When I did use the DELL 3007WFP-HC for a day, that monitor got super hot, way hotter than this panel.

Also I heard this monitor make some "expanding" sound when the pastic was heating up.. but after about 30 minutes of it being on there is no more sound.

Keep in mind my room temperate is around 75*F

I too was afraid of the 30ms input lag compared to the S-IPS low lag of 11-12ms. I can assure you I dont notice anything at all!! I have gamed COD4, Guild Wars, Crysis, and Unreal Tournament 3 and I dont notice any lag at all. I am not a professional gamer, so mabye a PRO gamer might feel the difference.

With all the previous monitors with input lag I've used, I never noticed them in 3D games. However, they were very noticeable under Windows, and games with cursors, like Starcraft. That's what made it annoying!

That's weird. I noticed the input lag in both.

Playing Crysis on my 37" LG TV with input lag similar to the 2408WFP made me want to hurl, especially if I was using a turret to aim. This was why it went back to being a TV instead of a monitor.

I generally will notice 2 frames or more from mouse movement, and a bit less in FPS games.

It's nice to see that the 305T+ runs cooler than the S-IPS competition. Good luck with the 305t+.

Well I do notice input lag in sensitive-aiming parts, which is annoying. But general FPS gun n' run, I don't notice it. Playing Starcraft and navigating under Windows however... Madness.

NCIX and Futureshop doesn't carry the 305T PLUS right now, so I'll give the LG a try first.

lobski I dont think there is anymore 305T anyway being produced. They are probably going to send you a 305T+ like tigerdirect did to me. Just ask the company what is the "model code" number and if it matches that of a 305T+ then they do have it.

You're right, I just checked the 305t on NCIX, and their par number matches the one in the pictures posted in the first page.

yeah im pretty sure it is a 305T+ now... but if you want to be super sure just call up the company and have them look at the box if it says 305T plus im pretty sure it does.

with a link provided by snowdog to check if a monitor is HDCP compatible..

Just to give everyone an update on who is also selling the Samsung 305T+ , ncix.com is also selling the Samsung 305T+, but selling it under the regular model 305T. One user posted in the comment section that he did receive a PLUS version when he ordered a regular 305T 2 weeks ago.

Correct, I bought a 305T from ncix and it turned out to a plus, which in my case was actually a bit of a disapoointment as I wanted the regular sRGB monitor

Oh well, I also bought a dell 3007WFP-HC and can't decide between the 2. The fsamsung feels better quality, better blacks, etc, but the dell has lower input lag, stand looks better, but dell feels cheap while samsung except for the stand feels quality...
BAH... I'm past the return policy for the samsung but as for the dell I'm still in it, I haven't decided if input lag annoys me or not and BAHAHHHHHHHHH I hate this :p I can't choise
P.S. Anyone ever notice the dithering/screendoor effect on the 3007WFP-HC durring movement? it annoys the hell out of me more than the input lag.

I have a W3000H, which uses a newer version of the panel used in the 3007WFP, and I don't see any screendoor effect on it. I think they managed to get rid of it in the new panel version?

Anyway, if you can return it, give the LG W3000H-BN a try, it's fantastic.

Humm, I'll see, does any retailer (ie futue shop) have any in store or is it web only? If you have a chance try and open a screensaver like flurry, or a game like eve, and watch closely where colors move, and see if you can see the "Dither/screendoor" reason I use quotes because its more like someone is pressing an imprint of a jeans pattern, and it only appears durring movement.

It seems almost like only every other pixel is updating.. like this

OOOOOOOOOOOOO (O = pixel, o = changed pixel, color or w/e)

Frame 1/No Movement/No Change -

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Frame 2/Movement/Change -

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Frame 3/End of Movement/End of Change

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

And no its not my Video Card as I just went from a 8800 Ultra to 4870x2, and I have used 2 other monitors (23" BenQ, which is an IPS panel, and a 30" Samsung which is MVA panel) which do not display this effect.

I wonder if its just a way dell is using to improve pixel response rates and no one really noticed till now....

I'm not sure if your trying to describe the "sparkle" effect?? Most users notice the "sparkle" effect which looks kind of like dust or glitter on the screen, really noticeable on white backgrounds.

Yes I had both the 3007WFP-HC and then tried the Samsung 305T+. It was a hard decision on my end as well. Didnt know if I wanted the DELL for low input lag, better looking monitor and stand. OR the Samsung with good looking frame but cheap stand... higher input lag and PVA panel. After using the Samsung for awhile, I am glad I went with it. To me the 305T+ has better blacklight uniformity... there is no sparkle effect on white backgrounds so the picture looks pretty clean.. nice deep blacks... pretty clear text... the input lag I got used to it doesnt even bother me, and the slight gamma shift I am used to it as well. The gamma does shift noticeably on this monitor though. Overall I am happy with my choice, but if a better IPS panel comes out in the future with less problems... I'll get it.

No surprise really. The 30" LG panel are notorious for poor screen uniformity, they get lambasted almost every time a new 30" gets released (recently Dell 3008 and NEC 3090) because that is when they get the most attention, but the old ones are no better. I bought a 3007-HC and returned it and gave up on 30" panels (I don't like PVA) and instead went with a NEC 2490WUXiSV.

The uniformity of my Dell 3007-HC was hideous. I won't look at a 30" again until LG, gets serious about quality control and starts producing uniform panels, gets a cleaner anti-glare coating, the one on the 30" panels is the worse going, and give the 30" panels the A-TW treatment like my NEC 2490 has.

BTW Lag isn't too bad on this PVA because it has no other electronics to slow it down. It is similar to my NEC. The bad laggers are PVA with more electronics to slow it down more.

+1 true, I totally agree with you, LG needs to do better in QC and have a different type of anti glare coat, something that does get the job done and doesnt stand out as much. I love S-IPS... and since I really need a 30" for some work I do, this PVA panel came as close a less problems compared to the newer IPS panels. I dont do too much color critical work, so I'm good to go :)
