Possible Radeon 4970 specs

looks like i got the 4870x2 preivew thread locked.. why am i so controversial?

Because all you do is make shit up and post it, and it's annoying because nothing you say is backed up by any sort of fact. Speculation is pointless and it just wastes space on the forum. Without real information, anything you say is worthless.

Would have been more believable if it weren't for the 512bit interface, not going to happen with GDDR5, not this generation anyway.

The most unbelievable part of this IMO, is the 40nm manufacturing process. Next gen, maybe - but a refresh jumping to 40 is unlikely.

Reading my special leaves:

Ati Radeon 4970

40nm process
1000 MHZ core
3200 MHZ RAM
1600 Steam Processors
64 ROP
512 bit Bus
2 GB GDDR5

dude the 40nm part is confirmed... just accept that part
I though 40nm would not be ready until jan/feb next year. at that time a refresh would seem stupid as both Nvidia and ATI will probably both have new products close to launch.

WELL i read they wanted to get the 40nm radeons out by x-mas... which would be about 6months after launch of thr 4800 series... which is about right... for a refresh

it got moved back a few months because the FAB wont be ready to ship till then

well basically none of the stuff you are talking about would be in a "refresh" . thats basically a whole new card and it would be retarded to not go with 5800 series designation.

Nope... TSMC pushed back the 40nm parts until 1Q 2009. Any higher clocks at this point would be the result of a respin of current parts.

Agreed.... i believe the 5800 line with be direct 11 hardware....

upon further reviee

4970,4950 and 4970X2 will all be 40nm shrinks
faster clocks...and possible faster DDR5

Ati Radeon 5800 Series will be a DX11 Part launch july 2009

ATI Radeon 5870
40um
1200 Stream Processors
32 ROP
DX11

Well, nice crack at the numbers....

But, 4970, if one is to come, would probably just be a refresh of the 4870...

So you'll see die shink, higher clocks. Probably 512MB and 1GB ram configurations. But, there's no doubt they'll keep the 256-bit memory bus with GDDR5.

Now, will the next fully new chip from AMD be 512-bit? Maybe. But, that's gotta be a year off or so.

Radeon 5870 will probally be 512bit... i think at 55nm its too expensive overall to go 512bit

but with the shrink and cost shavings... 512bit might look good for the 5870

there will be no need to go to 512-bit on the next gen if they didnt want to. gddr5 speeds will increase significantly over the next few months and huge increase in bandwidth can be just by doing that. I personally think 384-bit on the 5800 series and definitely on the 6800 series would be kinda of cool but ATI is more likely to just make the full jump to 512-bit. that will likely be on the 6800 series IMO.

you are niether wrong or right... just taking a guess.... thanks for the input ...

1200!!!?! That's too low.

3800->4800->5800

Processors: 320->800 is 150% increase. So 800->2000.
TMUs: 16->40, 40->100
ROP: 16->16

2000 Stream Processors and throw in 100 TMU and 16 ROP.

Core: 850 Memory: 1000
