DoubleSight DS-263N - 26"

Anyone else notice that both buy.com and amazon are out of stock? Good thing I got my order in last night.

Hehe...I wouldn't be surprised if it's because of this thread. Their buyers are probably wondering why this model got so popular all of a sudden.

a "runaway it" :p

Maybe we'll get lucky and the company will learn from this. especially sinse they've been recently acquired by the manufacturer, I think someone said that earlier in this thread.

So, my replacement arrived today. This one has no pixel defects, and I'm pretty sure I got the polarizer. Can't wait to put it through the paces on some gaming this evening!

Hi guys,

Sort of a n00b question, but when you calibrate displays with hardware and software, are you essentially creating a ICC profile for the OS? If so, when I load up a software, a game per se, doesn't the software use its own default color profile or look for a system default?

Thanks! Looking for to picking up this Doublesight but want to make sure it's worth it for non-hardcore gaming and blu-ray viewing.

its worth it.... I have owned 8 different 24"+ monitors, and the doublesight with a polarizer is simply the best. for under a grand.

So my order from ant online has just been canceled, because its out of stock, which really sucks. I wonder where I should get it from now? Seems like newegg is the only company saying its in stock, ridiculous.

shit, when did you place your order?! I ordered from them through amazon too, you have me worried...

I got the display mounted on my VESA radial arm and things are looking good. I had some difficulty figuring out how to attach the mounting plate for my arm, but a quick email exchange to DoubleSight straightened me out.

My unit does have some of the backlight bleed that some have pointed out (in the upper right corner). But, it has NO stuck pixels and I definitely have the polarizer (my original unit did not, and the difference is stunning). I can live with some backlight bleed, especially since I don't play games in the dark. It's not noticeable under normal lighting conditions unless you really look for it. I don't want to take a chance with another exchange and get a display with pixel defects or the lack of a polarizer (or both.)

oh nuts, I placed mine on the 10th.....shit

it took them 3 days to get back to you about it? Makes me think I should just order from newegg now and cancel my amazon order

Did you order it from Amazon themselves or through one of their affiliates? Amazon usually doesn't cancel orders for out of stock items; they'll fill it once they have stock.

when I ordered amazon itself was already out of stock so I ordered trough one of their affiliates, the same one that andersoj ordered from, and it has me worried....but if they were out shouldn't they have canceled it already? and if mine IS on the way then why would his get canceled if he ordered before me....basically I feel a strong ass raping coming and I'm scared

I've searched this thread and can't find where ToastyX posted his ICC profile. Could someone point me to it?

Does powering up this monitor require a huge spike in power? I have it set to turn off after 20 minutes of idle. 3 times in a week, I've moved my mouse to turn the computer back on(or touched the keyboard) and my computer shuts off. Turns out the circuit breaker tripped.

I've got this monitor, a 430W PSU, wireless router, cable modem, simple clock, and on occasion printer and laptop all plugged into a surge protector and that into an outlet. Though this last time, the laptop was in sleep mode and the printer was off all 3 times. Doesn't seem, even with all of these one, it should be taxing the circuit breaker(has a 15 on the switch...15 Amps). Is my surge protector defective(possible, it's a bit old) or is my monitor defective(drawing too much power on "boot" up)?

Toastyx's ICC:
http://www.toastyx.net/DS-263N.icc

It was on page 2

I don't think the monitor is the culprit. I keep my PC on all day long and most of the time the monitor is on sleep mode but I haven't experienced anything as such.

Could you share the knowledge on that? I got a new stand with a VESA 100mm mount but I can't even remove the original stand from the monitor.

Sure. Lay the display flat on a soft surface, screen down. The top of stand has a large rectangular plate which connects to the monitor housing. Remove the 2 screws in the lower corners of that plate and the stand comes right off. The VESA mounting holes are now exposed on the back of the display. You'll note that the holes are arranged in a 3x2 array -- the DS-263N has the ability to attach either a 100x200mm or a 100x100mm VESA mount. To use a 100x100mm plate, you mount it offset to either the left or the right (depending on which set you use). It's a bit different than most displays I've used. Most have the 100x100mm holes centered.

What email address did you use to get in touch with DoubleSight? I haven't heard back from them in over a week and it's kind of pissing me off.

How much of an offset is it, and does it affect your stability at all?

I'm wondering the same thing. How "off" is it? I want to pick up the new Ergotron mount for this thing, but I won't if it going to look dumb.

It's offset about 5cm to the right or left depending on which set of mounting holes you use. I use a radial arm (Innovative 7500), so it doesn't affect my stability at all. The arm is securely mounted to my desk. A stand might not work well unless it has a way to counter-balance the shift in weight distribution. Below is a picture that should give you a good idea.

You rock! Thanks a ton for the info and the pic.
When I took the screws out of mine I encountered some resistance pulling the back plate out and was afraid I'd break something but seeing the shape of the slots down there I can understand what I was doing wrong.

The picture makes me think that a stand-up (non-clamping) replacement mount is NOT a good idea unless it's VESA 100mmx200mm. So I couldn't use a 100mm vesa replacement stand like the Ergotron 33-310-060. because it would just fall over sideways with the weight uncentered.

Damn you people....I think I have to buy this when my paycheck comes in at the end of this month. I need to replace my 5 yr 19" Samsung. Amazon is out of stock....

At first I expected the original stand to be really flimsy but it appears to be robust and well supported by a heavy steel plate at the bottom. I must say that the Lcd is on the heavier side, with a lot of circuitry and panel sandwiched in a thick casing that requires a strong support. Therefore an after market stand is kind of risky if the weight isn't balanced correctly.

Hi, I am new here! :D
I have found this great thread while I was looking for a new monitor. Thanks to everyone for sharing there experiences... I've just bought a DS-263N and I will get it in 2-3 weeks, because there's no stock here in Canada :(

I have now started to look at some arms. I am interested in something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824183124
With this type of arm, the monitor needs to be centered or else it's going to be completly off balance.
I would need an adapter plate to hold the monitor.
Here is a quick sketch:

Anybody knows where I could get this kind of VESA adapter plate?
It is pretty simple to make but it would be easier to buy it somewhere.

If I can't buy it online, I think that I am going to buy it custom made by a metal shop (it is so simple, it won't cost a lot)...
Is there anyone that would be interested in buying one? (It would be cheaper buying a couple of them)

So... does anyone have any clue when Amazon is getting these back in stock? How frustrating to find the monitor you want then have to wait for restocking, heh.

I'm thiiiiiiis close to just saying "screw it" and buying it from the Egg. Anyone order it from there and get the polarizer?

Hi all, I ordered mine from Newegg last week, got it in a day because I live in the town next to the warehouse in Edison NJ, Mine is not the Polarized version.

How do you know for sure. Peoples impression vary so much, unless you directly compare to another model how are you sure you do/dont' have polarizer?

Hi Snowdog, I original had seen my friends which is what drove me to purchase mine. His has the polarizer, mine does not, Mine had the white glow from each corner during very dark movies and games, and of course when you look at it from the sides it has a complete white haze. I'm not happy with this at all, I'll probably send it back to newegg for a refund and wait for another manufacturer to use the same Polarized Panel. I don't mind eating the 15% restocking fee, its a matter of expectations and getting what you paid for. I expected to get a DoubleSight DS-263N, the same panel my friend has, what I got is as far as I'm concerned an visually inferior model.

How is this monitor for gaming? I play mostly FPS games and was worried about the response time, Im not to fond of the falts of TN panels which is why I am interested in this one.

Would this one be fine for fps games or am I better off with a TN panel lcd? How do the colors look in game?

The colors are fine in games and there is no visible lag I can sense, but if you play many games with dark scenes and don't have the Polarized version of the panel you will see a slight white haze in the corners depending on how close you view your screen. Again the panel I received is flawless every other way other than the fact I had expected the same panel as my friends.

I see, this was something that worried me aswell as I can see a few "dark" games coming out in the future that I would like to be able to play. I currently have had my lg l227wtg monitor(TN) for about a week now and the main reason I want to return it is the backlight bleeding. It is horrible and I just know in darker games it would bug the hell out of me.

ugh, my amazon order that i placed on thurs ust got cancelled because of no stock...I'm almost near crying. Has anyone ad good experince with getting one from newegg? I'm scared of dealing with bullshit...anyone know why amazon and all of its retailers are totally out? I hope they're not getting rid of the unit...

Call DoubleSight and tell them this. See if they'll send you a replacement.

Before you send it back to newegg, you might want to call Doublesight and see what they say. Your best bet is to emphasize that your friend has one without the haze and tell them you consider yours defective, and you probably also shouldn't give any impression that you know it is a characteristic of IPS panels or that you know anything about LCD panels at all.

Hey Guys thanks for all your advice, I had emailed DoubleSight yesterday and explained the situation completely, they responded quickly say that since the panel is not defective they cannot exchange it. I guess I could give them a call and try to reason with them. I'm just now getting familiar with the different types of panels, before I had this one I was using a Dell 2407wfp NON HC, the power button broke on that, Dell sent me a replacement which was the HC version that suffers from Inverse Ghosting in Games. I was very happy with the 2407 non HC and I applaud Dell for giving me and any other Gamer there money back in total. Since then I had been waiting for a good panel to come out.
