My mom has now beat Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on Gamecube. She is currently working on Ocarina of Time on N64, and she will be done shortly.

Anyone have any other suggestion of games? She tried Mario Sunshine and hated that.

She'll be done shortly? With Ocarina of Time?!

Holy shit dude your mom is hardcore.

That aside. Once she's done with OoT, throw Majora's Mask at her, then you might wanna consider firing up an emulator for her to play LttP on SNES or the DS/GBA version of it.

Im guessing u only have a Cube ... Majora's Mask that comes on Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition
She should also give Star Fox Adventures and Beyond Good And Evil

I think Majora's Mask will probably end it for her... lol

I don't look at that one as fondly as the others, it's repetitive and just plain frustrating AND annoying.... 3 days... 3 days... 3 days... 3... days...

Need a TP sequel soon... that was epic...

If you have/get a PS2 the Okami game is supposed to be somewhat similar I guess.

I have a PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/DS/N64 available for her to play. (I dont share my 360 ;))

She's going to play Phantom Hourglasses on DS but my mom's 51 so I'm not sure if she'll enjoy the stylus too much. :p

Yes, my mom IS hardcore.

Yes she is. Congratulations on not having a technological Luddite for a parent. I wish I was as lucky. My mom is scared to even turn on a computer...

Both parents play video games me (i'm a girl) and my sister both play video games too.

The Alundra series might be good. Shares alot of elements with the 2D Zelda games, thou you would probably haft to find a used copy off ebay or such, as its kinda old and rare.

Marry me! :)

anyway...I'm gonna have to go with the Okami suggestion.Majora was fun,but it does get frustrating, the constant repeats of the 3 days............. shivers*, though I found it fun.

On another note, if your mom likes a great story and good gameplay, I would suggest Planescape:Torment for the PC.

Oh yea, not quite Zelda, but The Soul Reaver games 1/2 is puzzle platformer .. she might like those.... maybe.

There really is nothing like Zelda, which is why Zelda is so great. I just started gaming when the first Zelda hit the NES in like 1986 and the series has been the gold standard for every generation of game console since then.

They reinvented Zelda for the SNES with A Link to the Past in 1992 which was just the most overwealmingly awesome game at that time. It was just an enormous game with unheard of production values, graphics, sound effects. Even the music was good, for a game atleast. In fact, I think it is one of the only, if not the only 16 bit game that still looks awesome today.

Then they reinvented Zelda again in 3D with Ocarina which was just as perfect as Link to the Past but the graphics don't hold up as well. Also, the Wii control scheme in Twilight Princess is so much better than the standard gamepad that I have trouble going back and playing Ocarina now, with all that tedious aiming. Still, possibly the greatest game of all time, and probably the most epic game of the series so far.

There aren't many games that I would say are like Zelda but there are a few that are in the same league, although they are in different genres.

I would consider the Metroid series to be sort of like a cousin of Zelda. Both are pretty cerebral, involve a lot of adventuring and puzzle solving and have great production values.

I think Resident Evil 4 got pretty close to Zelda like adventure and quality but that involves a lot of shooting too.

My favorite first tier games

1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
3. Super Metroid (SNES)
4. The Legend of Zelda; Twilight Pricess (Wii)
5. Resident Evil 4 (Wii)
6. Metroid Prime (GC)
7. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (Gamecube)
8. Half-Life series

I too have been on a search for 'Zelda' type games, largely because I am the biggest Zelda nut on the face of the planet.

Someone told me the Prince of Persia games would be up my alley, but I haven't given them a try yet...

Wish my mom was hardcore, instead I have a conspiracy scared mother. I was out with my friends and I got something in the mail. My mom was worried it was from the FBI or something and called to ask to open it. I told her to call me back if it was serious. No call.

Ah I got lucky. My parents are pretty awesome. I grew up gaming actually. Playing Blades of Steel on NES with my dad. My mom used to take over the NES and play Super Mario Bros 3. :p

Thanks for the suggestions guys! My dad does enjoy the Metriod games, so I'll have my mom try those too.

Offtopic - Thanks for posting about your mom, it reminded me to call mine!

Ontopic - I've heard okami compared to zelda qutie a bit, and thats coming to the wii in March if that helps at all....

Psychonauts. It's not for gamecube though.....

Psychonauts is a fantastically fun game and is somewhat comparable to Zelda, but more action oriented and light-hearted. In any case, awesome game, and one of the most fun I've played lately.

Prince of persia is a lot like zelda in terms of the puzzles and some of the action, though there isn't really any RPG element to it like Zelda. But again, it's a fantastic game and lots of fun, even if the combat system does get a bit repetitive.

Man, now I want to bust out A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time!

I would really suggest Psychonauts, awesome game and Zelda like. You should pick up a Wii for you Mom, I'm sure she would love that. Okami is coming out for the Wii this month and there are plenty of other Zeldas and Zelda like games available on the VC.

You could also pick up a GBA player for her Gamecube and pick up all the gameboy zeldas. Links Awakening is still one of my favorite Zeldas and the 2 GB color Zeldas are pretty good too.

God your mom plays Zelda? Pretty wicked... my mom only plays Tetris and Puzzle Fighter... and kicks my ass at both... =(

I'll be one of the many to recommend Zelda 3 (A Link to the Past). Quite possibly the best Zelda game ever made IMO. Although it plays like the classic non-3D Zeldas, if your mom doesn't mind that style, she'll definitely be pleased. If you got a Wii, you can get it on virtual console. Then of course theres the shady emulators :D.

I'd love to buy a mom a Wii, but I can't find one ,or afford one. ;)

This is a good idea. There is also the Minnish Cap and Four Swords although I've never played either of those yet.

I can't believe no one has mention FABLE! If any game is like zelda as far as art style and game play fable is THE game to play. If you have an old Xbox or a 360 that is it. If you like zelda, you like fable.

joo serious? Where's the awesome puzzles and platforming segments in Fable?

Not to say Fable wasn't good, I just don't see how its like Zelda.

As a Zelda fan, I can say that I enjoyed the Prince of Persia series. The first one was fantastic, but the second one was ... well... it's like the sequel with the bigger budget. It's got more effects, and a bit prettier, but that special something that that made the first one magical just isn't there. The third one was pretty good, too.

You can get Sands of Time for almost any system. I've played it through on PS2, XBOX, and the PC. It really is a fantastic game.

Pics of mom? :D

Yeah. I picked up a SNES a year or so back so I could play Secret of Mana and I had to pick up LttP along with it. Wonderful game, still is. And Secret of Mana might be worth trying out, too.

And there's also Chronotrigger to keep an eye out for. Never played it but I always keep an eye out in case I find it at a garage sale or something (buying it from ebay=no thanks.)

Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil are games everybody should play. Or not play and wonder why all we get are sequels, remakes, or rereleases with better graphics.

I totally forgot about Beyond Good and Evil. Definitely one of the best games made for last gen consoles.
