HD3850 AGP: USA Availability

seems quite a lot of places are finally getting them in... interesting price spread on it though..

190 to 230.00 well, will be getting mine tomorrow hopefully... going to be a HOPEFULLY good day... guess depends on the driver issue and if Im bothered by it or not.

Yes Hagrid, we already know your feelings regarding AGP from the last HD 3850 AGP thread you "contributed" to ...

Also, just a reminder that this thread is for the Availability of the HD 3850 AGP, not to debate the merits of PCI-E vs. AGP. So if you have any hot leads please let us know.

Didnt mean to get yer panties in a bunch.

I actually do have 1 system that uses agp and thats my linux system. I want to get a cheap nvidia card that is decent to try some of the games and stuff. I have a fx5200 in it now and it doesnt run too well(some of the bigger 3d games).

It also wasnt the agp versus pci-e it is the cost of agp cards.

My panties are fitting quite well thanks, and I'd like to keep it that way.

That was just so we didn't get into another needlless debate trashing this thread too when it's really about the "Availability" of the HD 3850 AGP and where you can buy one. It's also not about the cost of PCI-E vs. AGP either by the way, but thanks for the reminder about the cost differential.

If you have any hot leads on where to buy the HD 3850 AGP please post them here. :D

Appears that these puppies are selling better than the 1950's did when they first came out. Cant wait to see the difference between my current 1950Pro and this 3850. Yes, will put up impressions tomorrow... but in the other forum.

WOW, that is expensive! I am glad I switched out my agp systems for pci-e!

For that price I would just save and get a new system!

Hopefully people put heftier PS's in their systems. hehe

Yeah, $210 for AGP instead of $180 for PCI-E is so exorbitant. You could get a new whole new system for that and then remodel your house while you're at it.

I updated the original post with today's information... added computerhq.com link that evolucion8 found, eWiz.com is back in stock w/ price still at $211.15 (not $190, hehe), newegg.com is also back in stock.

Estimate from UPS for delivery of my card is this coming Friday, Feb 22. All of you who get yours sooner, be sure to let us know how well the card works, and most important, which drivers worked. I'd suggest starting a new thread though, don't put the info in this one.

So, obviously this is the latest-greatest card to hit the AGP platform (and possibly one of the last?). I expect that it trashes all the previous cards performance.

So, are we expecting nVidia to offer up any competition?

Will this card be worth the upgrade in a mid-performance PC?
Or will real-world benefits only be noticed in high-end gaming rigs?

This link shows some 3DMark '06 scores, I'm not too impressed. I'm getting around 3800 with my specs.

Guess it really depends on you hardware config on how much of an improvement you'll see. Using a E4600 this guy got 9,672 an 10,271 in 3Dmark06. He got 17000 and change in 3DMark05...

Using an X2 4200+ this guy got 8,045 and 8,426 with an OC .....

Not to shabby at all for AGP.

Cant wait to see the difference between my current 1950Pro and this 3850.

So, was the 1950pro the "all that" card until now? Or something else?

I'm not convinced to spend the money on a 3850... but I'm quite content to wait for the table scraps to hit FS/FT when you all buy 3850's! ;) What about X1650pro or GF 7600gs?

BTW, NewEgg link shows OOS till 2/25.

Adon, you should also change the link to Ewiz.com using this one as you get a better price when using the Google link. Posted this earlier in the thread, just don't want you to miss it.....

I updated the first message again. Four stores still have the card in stock. I don't know why wjogert says: "BTW, NewEgg link shows OOS till 2/25." When I click on the link the card shows as In Stock, and I could even add it to my shopping cart.

I'm going to start a new thread for people that have received their card so they can post their experience. LordVampyre and God_of_Death posted in the "HD 3850 AGP = XP Only?" thread and that doesn't fit. The thread will be titled "The HD 3850 AGP User Experience" :) That will fit for any manufacturer, not just Sapphire.

You are correct. I show stock now too. Weird too, 'cause yesterday I even clicked the "AUTO NOTIFICATION" button to be notified when it became available... yet no email, and here it is showing stock.

C'mon NewEgg, quit messing with me!!

Updated the first message again. Price reductions at eWiz and newegg. eWiz is also offering free ground shipping.

Updated first message. eWiz price is now $200.00 with free ground shipping, limit 1 per customer. Heck of a deal! Removed google link for eWiz due to lower price on normal link.

Personally I think they're trying to drive us nutz. EWiz just raised the price to $210.

Thanks for the info. I updated the first message again.

Since the card seems to be in stock in at least four stores, I'm thinking I'll just change it to list the URLs for the retailers. People can check all of them if they want to find the best price. What do you think?

And just to reiterate...

C'Mon folks, buy up all these 3850's, so you can offer me a deal on your old X1950's!! :p

<LMAO>

I think just the URLs are fine for the first post, I just wouldn't include the prices for all of them. It's too much work. I have a few threads like this going on myself. I guess if anything, you could maybe just note the one with the best price in the group and let people continue to post their "best price" findings in the rest of the thread. Most of the time in threads like this you'll generally find the best price appearing within the last several posts of the thread anyway.

Modified the first message one last time, unless someone thinks there needs to be anything added. Any super specials can be added to the thread.

eWiz.com is having a sale on the card... $206.51 and Free Ground Shipping. No idea how long the sale will last. ComputerHQ has the card back in stock ($222.70).

I noticed this morning that Newegg has the PowerColor version. I'ts a little more expensive and no pics yet.

Congrats on the find. I almost posted that you were wrong after performing every kind of search on HD 3850 AGP I could think of to find it. Then for the helluvit I went by Powercolor and there it was. Except it's listed as an HD 3870 AGP card. No wonder I couldn't find it. In the specs though it says it is a HD 3850 however.

Here's a link to save others from the dreaded SEAD (Search Engine Anxiety Disorder).

$224.99 ...

Ok I think I have a problem..
People are getting 7k+ with 3dmark06, yet I scored a 4341 :(

Current Specs:
P4 3.0 stock
1.5GB ddr400
74gb raptor (newer version)
865PE msi board

People are obtaing 6-7k with the same processor but overclocked at 3.8 or so, will that extra 800mhz make that much of a difference really?

btw. I did use the trial version, does that have anything to do with it?

Your score looks reasonable - I have a 3.2 Northwood that scores 4562 in 3dMark06. But remember, your 3dMark06 score may not represent how your rig performs in actual gaming situations, especially in GPU intensive games. With 2 Gigs of dual channel RAM, your rig should play most games acceptably well, with the exception of Crysis, assuming your display resolution is 1680 x 1050 or less. If your 1.5 Gigs of RAM is operating in single channel mode, you may see slightly less performance.

1.5gb, single channel of course.

this is with the 3850 btw, that may not be clear.
just got it today. it definetly proved to be a lot better then the 2600pro which i was using in the mean time (1900pro died, bought the 2600 local for a few days awaiting the 3850).
I really only play WoW for the last 6months, but BF2 is another game I used to play a ton, not as much now though.

Anways, I saw about a 30fps bump and was able to raise the detail a tiny bit in order to match the power, but still, i figured this game being 2-3+ years old, i should at least be able to play medium or high settings..most of the settings are still on Low, a few on medium.

1680x1050 is the native res for the gateway 22", playing WoW in anything else and it looks horrid, doesn't scale for some reason

I have a P4 3.0GHz Northwood, 2GB RAM, 120GB Seagate HD and the HD 3850 AGP 512MB card and I get a score of 4737 in 3dMark06, so I would say your score is right. A faster CPU would increase your score.

bahaha this shit doesnt even test video cards......people are getting like 30k+ with a quad core and a 3850.......

what a BS test

As of 1:30 PM, Central Standard Time, NewEgg is "out of stock" on Sapphire 3850 AGP - will be interesting to see how long it takes to get them back in stock. Many times, they'll post RMAs as OEMs or "open box" and sell returned cards in this fashion - it will be interesting to see if any show up shortly as "open box". Is it my imagination or does the Egg jack up the price when stock starts getting low? The card went from a low of $205 to $220 in just a matter of two days. Hmmm...supply and demand?

Other online retailers do that also. ExCaliberPC went from $219 to $249 with their first shipment until they ran out.

Anyway, eWiz has that card for $206.51 and free ground shipping right now, so I'd suggest them. That's where I got my card (although the price was $211 and no free shipping), and I didn't have any problems at all with eWiz.

I wish i would have waited on buying my 8800GT..would have saved about $700 on the upgrade i made but oh well. Good to see manufacturer's and AMD keep AGP alive and kicking.GOD BLESS AGP ! :):D

The Sapphire card is now a "deactivated item" at Newegg, not just out of stock. Wonder what's up with that.

Personally, I'd rather buy the PowerColor anyway.

Sapphire was awesome, back in "the day". But, after all the horror stories I've heard here about poor quality and absolute horrible customer service... not sure I'd want to take that risk.

Ironic twist, actually, since back in "the day", PowerColor was barely a step above a no-name generic! :p
