Looking into my new PC build and I just used a Smilodon case to build a friends computer in. EXCELLENT case. Now I am seeing NewEgg has that same case including a 500w PSU. I'm really, really bad with the PSU calculators and not sure as to the quality of said PSU. Would it be decent for a system running an Intel E6750 and 8800 GT 512 with 2 HDDs, 1DVD, and 2GB RAM? This combo was recommended at Sharkys, but I'm not sure their recommendation is enough since I don't know much about their practices. Thanks.

unless raidmax has changed recently their psu's arent a wise decision,

I had seen them on that list. Was just hoping maybe this once they did something worthwhile. Guess I'll go with what I had my friend get: the Corsair PSU.

Yes, smart move. Until Raidmax quality has actually been properly tested and verified, I'd hold off on using/buying a Raidmax PSU.

If you enjoy a great gamble, I suggest a casino instead of a PSU.

Ugh...no more gambling on PSUs for me. Had too many headaches in the past for that. Thanks for confirming I what I thought...Sharky is crazy!

Yeah I know. Decent site but sometimes they do miss the more important aspects of PCs, like PSUs and chipsets.

Sorry for the bump, but as I said in my original post, I have not had good luck with the PSU calculators. Based on the specs in the original post, what power PSU would be enough without being overkill?

I think your system will only draw about 250 to 300W at full load. So with that in mind, I recommend getting this PSU:
Corsair 450VX 450W PSU - $76

Plenty of power for your system.

Good to know. If I were to add a second video card and/or another HDD, would that change it much?

Good enough. Chances are I'll be buying a single card mobo anyway, so that should not be a worry. Did a search and found a PSU calc that is a little more up to date than the ones I saw linked. [EDITED] Apparently the other one I found is not reliable. Did not see that info on the FAQ before. Sorry!

[EDIT2] Went back to try the linked PSU Calc again and...there are no modern parts on there. Why is it still linked? The newest CPU/Mobo was the P4. Anyone have one thats more up to date or am I simply not seeing the obvious on this one?

psu calcs are worthless. Wattage isn't something you should use as a measurement of what parts it can power.

Fair enough. Any guides or tricks you can share so I can try this at home?

Groovy. Thanks for the links! Always good to edumacate myself so I can stop axing stoopid questions. :D
