Scientist Make Waterproof Coating For Gadgets

"British scientists have come up with a way to completely waterproof electronic gadgets. Sounds cool, not sure when it would ever come in handy, but it sounds cool."

Come in handy?

Are you f'n kidding?

How dense is your skull?

Truly if you are being facetious then learn how to inflect it properly over the net.

How many laptop owners have spilled orange juice, win or soda into their laptop?

"Ion-Mask is a protective layer that bonds to the device using a plasma, or electronically charged gas, and its chemical properties allow oil and water to be repelled easily"

It sounds like this is the step in the right direction to having spill proof laptops that don't take away from the design by making some odd reservoir to contain spilled liquids in under the keyboard.

I realize that one can recover a laptop that has had liquids spilled into it but no one wants to have to go through all those crazy procedures.

You might not have realised, but these news stories are not written by [H], they are written by other people. If you want to make a post, make it worthwhile, you are dissing the best, most detailed review site on the internet. (IMO, and many others)

QFT, absolutely.

QFT, absolutely.

Intelligent, in-depth, "no-bullshit" reviews and articles by a staff of people with great attitudes. I've not belonged to the forums for long, but have been coming here for years for all of their reviews and articles. The best on the web in all ways, period.

I think Fuzzy Logik was referring to Steve pissing people off and being an ass from time to time.

This is nothing new, it even says in the article that the military has been useing it for a long time!!!

I can see this being useful for people that have to use any kind of diagnostic equipment outside. Seems sort of funny that a fleshlight is water proof but something like a portable TIMMS set is not.

Just in time to snatch the asshole of 2007 award.;)

I disagree as well, but there are nicer ways of saying so.

While I don't think anything could be waterproofed to that degree at this point in time, that is indeed an excellent concept. An entire system filled with water, and water kept as specific temps through cooling. Futurist ;)

Of course, then everything would have to be rust-proof, which would be a little difficult since the only metal that doesn't rust is surgical steel.

But, if ever possible, then the only thing you'd have to worry about is your system dumping an ass-load of water all over your carpet ;)

Been there, done that ;X

While it sounds cool, I always take announcements like this with a huge grain of salt. How many times have we heard about great new technologies under development that for some reason or another never make it to market?

this might be handy for the guy at work who left his brand new company issued blackberry pearl in his pocket. before washing clothes..

What is with you and huge grains of salt? Do you not understand the idiom you're using?

I think he is a bot or something, same exact thing (word for word) he has said for his last 3 posts, and he even copied it from someone else's comment.

Here I was hoping that Steve would come back and Flame that n00b for one gay-ass response, too bad :(

It is quite cool technology, I for one, used a laptop in a bath once, I was actually talking on vent with someone ( it died a week later ), if they could waterproof a laptop, I would be all over that.

hmm... this stuff + pico itx + HUD(Or forearm display) + forearm keyboard = Crazy wearable dive computer with GPS capability? How much pressure can computer parts take?

eballs? e-tampon? fleshlight? what kind of thread is this anyway? I would like to think the ability to waterproof has been available, just not practical. A waterproof housing for a camera costs just as much as my camera body (canon 5d). I've used used military gear for several years and most of which was "joe proof" It would be nice where it's just a given on smaller portable devices.

What can I say? Some people take joy in being a complete asshole.

[H]ardOCP is the single best site for anyone to use for computer related information. I actually recommend it daily.
It's free. It's clean and easy to read. I have never been steered wrong by information on this Website. I read it daily myself when I'm not busy at work or with life.

With the amount of Water Cooling that goes on within this site alone I would think that would make the "geeks never go outside" joke really pointless. In my opinion, it was contrived after it was apparent what a stupid comment Steve had made.

Again this is a completely free site and frankly when something is free I believe the right to complain should be waived and ignored. However I am allowed to post my opinion by clicking on "Comment" because that is the only way to get feedback to the editor that the story is cool but his commentary is unwanted.

Yes, I am an asshole, and yes I would say this to your face. The only boot I lick is that of my employer and only because I have to.
