Do I need to change anything in WIndows or the quad would work right away after the swap?

Mine worked right away but some BIOS's might need to updated.. Just ensure that you are flashed to a current BIOS version.. 680i motherboards come to mind.

Thanks, I think that my Bios should support the quad, I just wanted to know whether windows will support it right away or I need to do a new install or some mod like when going from a single core to dual core.

Well theres a single cpu and multi cpu/core kernel. Obviously single to dual core or higher would require a different kernel and thus the "mod". But the multi cpu one that got install with your dual core cpu is 2+. So 2 or 1234827492 cores/cpus its the same kernel! :)

Before you upgrade, go Device Manager > Processors and delete the two cores you already have. This allows Windows to label/recognize the cores properly after you install the quad. There's no difference in performance but the mislabeling seems to bother some people.

On my EVGA 680i, I had to enable the other 2 cores in the BIOS...I don't know why, but there is an option in the 680i BIOS to use one, two, three or four cores....Like someone is gonna get a quad and not use them all..:)

If you have a known bad core you can shut it down to preserve the stability of your system.
