I have a 1680 x 1050 monitor, I want a video card that can play Crysis at medium settings at that res. Thanks for the replys.

Considering the game isn't out yet it may be a bit difficult to get an answer. Just get the best card you can afford and hope it's enough...like the 8800GTS 640mb.

You can't even tell from the recommended requirements? What about this?
http://www.crysis-online.com/forum/index.php?topic=4487.0

He made all of that up. You can kind of make an educated guess, but there's no real way to know for sure until CryTek themselves have the final optimized build, which they do not. It's a pretty good bet that a 8800GTS will pull decent from at the setting you specified, but again it's all just guess work. I'm hoping that if I buy an 8800GTS, I'll be able to run at 2xaa/4xaf at 1680x 1050 on high, but who knows? I'll just have to wait until the game comes out.

The answer is always going to be "buy the best you can afford."

Currently that ladder goes
8800 Ultra - ~$600-650
8800 GTX - ~$500-550
8800 GTS 640MB or Radeon HD 2900 XT 1GB depending on the game/engine - ~$375-450
8800 GTS 320MB - ~$275-325

Anything less is definitely not going to cut it. The 320MB 8800 GTS will probably be memory limited at that resolution at higher settings with AA/AF, as Crysis is likely to use very large textures, shadow maps etc.

WRONG
Read the hyperlink above. Even a 7800gtx can run on mostly high. You don't need a 8800 series card to play games.

I agree with the general consensus here, get what you can afford. Mr. Cevat said that an 8800GTS 640MB can run the game at max settings (Dx10) at 1280x resolutions (native for most). Of course, did that include AA? No one really knows for sure however I'd imagine a decent amount at that resolution, like 8x/16AF. Which is by the way, all you really need at that resolution. The difference between 8 and 16AA is very small in that scenario.

Again no one really knows yet, just wait 2 weeks until the demo is released.

EDIT: The quotes from that link are accurate (you can also check out inCrysis.com for even more info). However, the rest is mostly from the OP of that thread. So the link does have some valuable information, but most of it is just guesswork tbh.

You were just told that the link above is a COMPLETE GUESS. One could easily say WRONG to you, but we don't really know as the developers haven't released the system requirements.

Most of it is "wrong" although as I said in my edit, the quotes or statements from the Crytek/EA employees are true. Although, in the end the game is still not finalized so everyone should just wait for the demo :).

Games scale from maximum to low, high resolution to low resolution. Just because a person has a medium range card does not mean we won't be able to play it.

While we're guessing here, one thing is for sure, at high settings, this is going to be a VERY demanding game. Now it might scale well, but no doubt the higher you push it, the more power its going to need and probably more than any game ever made at max settings.

So yeah, just get the MOST powerful card you can afford. If you can wait a couple of months, the new nVidia chips should be out, and they'll most likely eat this game up.

methinks you missed the sarcasm.

For 1680x1050 resolution I suggest you get 8800gts 320meg version or wait for the game to actually come out and see how cards that are out performs. IF you can wait that is.

IF you can't wait get yourself a 8800gts 320meg version. It will suffice you for that resolution.

and I would disagree and instead recommend the 640mb model. Crysis is the most graphically demanding game to date. even at that res with no AA the 320mb might not be enough. I will guarantee you with any AA the 320mb will nosedive in this game compared to the 640mb. I know Bioshock is a completely different game but Firingsquads review of the game with AA(DX9 only) clearly showed the superiority of the 640mb in a modern game.

Are you even reading his post before answering? Not everyone wants to spend $400 on video card.

Do you know how Crysis will perform on current hardware?

The guy wants to play medium settings @ 1680x1050. A 320meg card would be plenty.

Not to mention Nvidia already knows about the memory management problem dennab25, MS already supplied 2 fixes for it: one of the mini-Vista SPs and a separate smaller hotfix. Both are found on Nvidia's driver and beta driver pages. Although these must be used with the 163.44 (not sure) or 163.67 drivers to solve the issue.

I do agree that you should get the 640MB if you can, just to make sure because we really don't know how the game or hardware will perform for that resolution or any resolution.

could you please show me where he said a $400 card would be to expensive?? sorry but you dont know how it will perform either so your suggestion is no better than mine. I was at least giving a compelling reason why a 320mb might not be enough.

He doesn't say that but you don't need a $400-$500 card to play games. He wants to play medium settings as in medium ranged card. Not everyone can afford $400 cards. It's a nitch market in PC gaming industry.

Why wouldn't a 320meg video card enough for medium settings? I play fine with a 8600gts mostly on maximum settings with all my games @ 1440x900 even the recently released bioshock and MOH:Airborne.

But then again the 8800GTS 640 doesn't perform that great with AA in bioshock either at the said resolutions. Judging from all the posts about crysis performance I'm thinking that this game is more heavy on the raw speed of the card than the memory. The dev said that an 8800GTS should play it maxed at 1280x, which also leads me to believe memory isn't the problem there (as, he did not mention 640 or 320 version). Even look at the GTX users with 700+mb who are having pretty bad performance at resolutions higher than 1280.
Sure, new drivers are bound to come out and game patches to optimize performance, but I don't think ANY current gen cards will run the singleplayer game maxed at 1600x1200 or higher smoothly. The extra memory helps to run AA with many current games but in future games I think we will see much more rendering power required (as crysis seems to show).

we can argue all day but neither of us really know how it will play. Cyrsis looks to be very very graphically demanding and 1680 is a fairly high res. anyway we will all see in about 9 days when the demo comes out. ;)

Yeah we'll see about that. :p

Thanks for the great replys. Alot of flaming lol. The demo will be stable release not like the beta right?

Who knows, honestly.

I think I've said this before, but... you know you /need/ to replace that utter piece of shit PSU right? Like, now, before it explodes/melts/etc?
