Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

i placed an order on the onsale site, i hope it doesn't get cancelled.

im gonna read over all the pages now, everyone think its pretty good?

I saw the issues with this 37" Westy.. I am a little hesitant to buy it. I will be running (2) 8800GTS 640mb's in SLi.. Am I just asking for problems? So far, the only other monitor that I saw that I liked (and is in my $600-ish dollar price range) is a 28" LCD monitor (which is Vista Certified as I am running Vista x64).

do you need to get a box through your cable company? or can i pick up a box off ebay that will allow me to get over the air HD TV?

is there a cheaper solution? i mean if i can get something for under 50 that would be better, price is a concern right nwo, so if i can get something cheaper that doesn't do over the air that is great. i saw someone mention a Hughes HTL HD, will that work with just normal cable or will any work?

is OTA HD everywhere?

There are cheaper tuners, but probably not $50 cheap. If you want free HDTV your only option is over the air. It's not everywhere which is why I linked that site, it will help you determine what antenna you'll need to pick up the various stations in your area. Other than that I don't have any experience with it since I have only had cable-based HDTV. If you don't want or can't get OTA you can subscribe to HD digital cable or upgrade your existing service to HD. There's also DirecTV (satellite).

One thing to keep in mind is this monitor is poor at deinterlacing 1080i signals, which all HDTV broadcasts are. I haven't tried it with a tuner myself so it might not be that bad, but you might notice ghosting or other deinterlacing artifacts with this TV and 1080i inputs. Most tuner boxes will output only 1080i but there are some such as this all-in-one DVD/VCR/tuner that says it outputs TV broadcasts in 1080p. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMR-EZ47VK-Up-Converting-1080p-DVD-Recorder/dp/B000O3LUKC I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives.

yeah no OTA-HD in my area.

so dunno what to do, i got a cable line in my room, i can either rent a box from my cable isp so i can get digital cable for 6 bucks a month or find another solution.

I ordered last Mon/Tues after I called and they said ETA would be Fri/Sat. They called to confirm on Thurs and said it shipped from CA so Im hoping it gets here tomorrow - damn Labor Day holiday  Weird thing is it still doesnt say its in stock on the page and my order status says it DIDNT ship...

Kinda wish I heard about the PCC deal though cuz I had to pay tax in CA from onsale.com. Oh well at least nothing has been cancelled...

I have a 37W3 and am running XP with an 8800gts 640. I was forced last night to update from the 152 forceware to the 163.44 betas (in order to play Bioshock, which would immediately crash when loading the game)
I was worried enough about overscan that I did the unthinkable, I installed the 163.44's without first uninstalling the 152's and using driver cleaner. On reboot, everthing was blurry (low res) but once I went in and changed the res to 1900X1080 it went back to razor sharp. Don't know if I just got lucky, or what, but I'm not messing with it to find out.
I'm using DVI1 on the 37W3, if that helps at all.

Thanks for the reply. Either you aren't having trouble because you aren't running a 8800 GTX or you aren't running Vista.. or you are just lucky? Either way it doesn't matter as long as you don't have issues.

I wouldn't hesitate. Even with the issues I've had I would still not want ANY other monitor and I've tried most of them. Just go for it but buy it somewhere with a good pixel policy/return policy (as you would for any LCD monitor).

OnSale - 54 37" are coming 2morrow. Mine should be shipping out 2morrow. My status was backordered

They are Refurbed from Westinghouse, Their is 15day Return Policy

OK.. I am about to purchase a monitor for my Vista x64 rig. I have now read all of this thread and even though I would LOVE to purchase a 37" Westy 1080P, MANY of the Westy owners seem to be experiencing issues with my similiar setup.

1. I have Vista.
2. I have SLi 8800GTS's with the latest drivers

I guess it's a known issue with Nvidia about the Westy's displaying blurred images with the latest forceware.. So, should I buy it and "pray" that Nvidia does something about it? I don't feel that lucky gambling with almost $700 dollars.

I know there are other 1080P monitors out there and I would be willing to buy one even if I had to spend an extra $100 dollars for "piece of mind".. I would REALLY appreciate some input as I am seasoned vet when it comes to computers but a total noob when it comes to 1080P!

Well you could always buy the 42" version although I like the 37" more for PC use. And it works fine with the 158 release drivers while the new ones give me trouble. I would buy the Westinghouse.

I plan on building a new pc with Vista 64 and a 8800gts. Is it highly likely I'll run into problems many of you speak of?

How did you get them to tell you how many they were getting? I called and it seems mine WASNT shipped last week - the ETA they gave me was Thurs 8/6

They also upped the price to 599 from like 579 or whatever it was.

i'm going to try ecost for a SECOND time by paying for overnight shipping. :D wish me luck :p

Second time? How did it go the first time?

i cant decide what i want to do.

this 90 day warranty kinda bugs me out. the order is in the guy said he was getting some today, im thinking of cancelling but im ilke 50/50.

reviews say this monitor is pretty much as good as your gonna get with the budget brands, im just leary of the warranty. after 90 days their is nothing and my luck ill have a problem after 90 days =/

what do you all think?

i cancelled order, not worth it, i didn't really need it i figured ill wait to black friday

Sorry to hear about the cancelled order.. I have this money basically burning a hole in my pocket but since I have done countless hours of reading on the 37" Westy / Nvidia drivers bug, I am leaning towards the 42" (although it will be a little more of a pain to surf the web because of the larger viewing areas..

It is NOT gonna be a pain. The resolution is 1920x1080. You know how much that is? ALOT. I have the 37" model, and most websites only use a portion of the screen, leaving 2 big spots of blank space on each side when is centered. So yeah, is actually perfect. But of course, [H]'s website is an exception, since it stretches the pages as far as the monitor allows it. But yeah, you don't always have to view it maximized all the way.
So yeah, if you have the space, go for it. The immersion level of a big screen is far beyond than what a regular 19" will ever give you. Only that you need to be ready with top of the line hardware to enable that AA to the max, if not, it's gonna look like poo-poo!

I have (2) watercooled 8800GTS's in SLi (640mb version), (4) gigs of Corsair Dominator 1066mhz memory with a QX6700 quadcore overclocked to 3.8ghz (vapochilled). Bring on the 1080P big screen!!!! LOL.

 SIX DOLLARS!?! My cable bill went from $120 to $145 when I upgraded to an HD box.

P.S. My 37" will auto change to any activated input EXCEPT the one my HD cable box is plugged into. DVI1.

OfficerM you are wise to be cautious. Should u go for a 42"? I wouldn't, but thats just me,
I want an lcd-tv that can do both "Games n' PC work" and 42" seems too big for that. I might (if I have to) go 40", but not bigger. Just my opinion.

why can't you wait until dvd's of the TV series/movies come out? always about instant gratification eh? :D

has anyone's pc connection westy shipped yet? they are back in stock at the website and it says "ships today" and yet my order placed last saturday hasn't shipped yet

I dont see why people are talking like the 42 is SOOO much bigger than the 37. Its 5 diagonal inches people. Thats like 4.4 inches wider and 2.5 taller... (Someone check my math) If youre sitting a few feet away that shouldnt make much difference.

Speaking of which ecost has a 42W2 refurb for 850. Tempting...

haha i have a 42, and if you compare it at BB or one of those stores there is a noticeable difference, though more noticeable compared to 32"

I use it for games/pc/movie watching and I have to say if it was any smaller I wouldn't be able to sit on the couch to watch them. The screen is large enough that if you watch subtitled movies/anime the text is plenty large enough and visible without having to squint. And when you add the fact that it has tuners which the 37" does not its not even a question. At the price for new ones (no refurbs/used) you might as well get the 42" since it seems to be dropping in price slowly, currently at 1080 at BB (1150 when I bought it)
