So I was browsing Newegg today....

Nice finds. I've been wanting a p182 just because I like them so much, lol. I have no idea what I'd do with it though, lol.

is it really worth it to spend over a hundred dollars on a case ? I'd go with a $60ish case personally but im cheap!
lian li's are so nice and im waiting for some kind of sick deal so i can pick one up cheap

also what exactly do you like about the cases, can you please tell me cause they all look pretty standard to me except for power supply on the bottom on some which is sweet.

Is it worth it? It depends on the person. Cases are a personal choice item IMO. Cases are generally chosen for aesthetics more than for performance. And by performance I mean how well the airflow is inside the case and a whether it does a sufficient job of cooling down the PC. Some people are willing to spend $100 to $200 on case just because they like the look and layout of the case, like Lian Li and P180 cases. Then again, some choose cases for purely cooling reasons, like the Antec 900. Then there are those people who could care less what their case looks like, its just something to put the PC parts in. I chose the P180 because I liked its clean look and its sound dampening properties. Even though I had bought the P180 while it was on sale, $86 shipped to me several months ago, I still would've bought it when it was $150.

So basically if the person likes the look and layout of a case enough, spending over $100 on a case is no problem for them. The cases may look standard to you, but there are subtle and major differences between cases. You just gotta look at the cases more.

I really cant wait till some of those RC 690's get out and we get some reviews as it looks like a very promising case. This is the last piece I need for my upgrade is the case....... I have a Q6600 G0 , Abit 35Pro, 4g Crucial Ballistex 8500 DDR2, 2 seagate 7200.10 250g hd all sitting in the boxes just waiting for their new home..... and Im kinda picky. Just been waiting for the "right " case.

Depends on what you value. ;)

I've been following the RC-690 for some time now. I love my Stacker 810, but the new RC's got:

1. plastic HDD rails - if they can quiet my raptors...oh boy!
2. side vents above the board - hopefully fans will fit w/ big heatsinks like thermalright u120 and hr-03's.
3. almost all black! - the 2 tone of the stacker drives me nuts (no painting skills) :(
4. it's smaller - the stacker's just too big imo, there's so much wasted space and it's a bitch to carry to LANs
5. dual 120/140's up top - this helps when a pc's backed into a corner
6. i/o ports up top!
7. 1/2 the cost of my 810

P182 - why oh why won't they put the 120mm fan in FRONT of the hdd's where it can actually do some good (I noticed 7-10C drop in HDD temps w/ 4 drives going from P180 to 810)

Yeah, I too am liking the RC-690, very nice, well thought out, and simplistic...and the price is great.

II would go with a cheaper case but also i would go for the best looking cheaper case lol

those are nice do you remember the silver ones called something dragon those were aroudn eighty bucks I used to have one of those they are still nice looking cases

I keep on cheaping out every time I buy a new case, but then I up having to spend money to mod my cheap case to fit my needs. By the time I'm done, I haven't really saved any money.

Actually went there for a P180B on the cheap ($80AR deal) and found it to be of the newer revision. It said v1.1 on the box. Of course it had all the cut outs, fan controller, etc. Then out of the corner of my eye...

Wow, the 690 looks awesome! I'd expect something like that from CM to be at least $120+. Looks like I found my next case for sure.

So, do the side buttons suck like what hardwarezone said? It's so weird how they put power/reset buttons on the right side instead of left.

Depends on what you value. ;)

Thats the case I went with. I had no problem spending that much on the case because in my opinion you get what you pay for. The Silverstone TJ07 is one of the highest quality cases on the one market as far as materials and craftsmanship. It has a very clean look and probably the most functional you can get. This is going to be a case I will keep for a long time.

The honeymoon is over...

Fan Grills:
The fans are much louder due to grills. A dremel would solve the problem, but then I'd have a very exposed pc to the elements...not so good for the LAN party. :( Also, they don't throw nearly as much air w/ this restriction.

HDD Cages:
Tho quiet and a definite improvement the Raptors can still be heard, so a mod for elastic bands will eventually be what happens for them. :D

Power Button:
The power button is located in the most inconvenient place...I suppose the back of the system might be worse. :(

Needs Window:
I feel completely helpless wo/ the ability to see that all fans are running and no cables have snuck out to cross the fans. :D

Size:
I miss my big inconvenient case already

Top Mounted Fans:
There's no way the case is going under my desk w/ the 2 top 120's. And this makes it difficult to reach w/ cables. Also, I cannot aim it at the corner where a fan exists to push the air up and out of the room.

Bottomline:
Not a bad CM, but some of us just need biga$$ cases. :D

I spent $110 on mine and I love it. Lian Li PC-65, theres definitely a quality difference amongst the other cases I've worked with. Nice sliding removable HD tray, hard drive cooling fans from the front. Definitely wouldn't go back to anything else.

i don't think the stacker was meant to be transported. its more of a server style case :D

i like the 690, the cosmos wouldnt be half bad looking if it didnt have those stupid bars on the top and bottom.

I thought theer was a windowed version of the 690 coming out?? Im hoping so as that is what id be lookin for.

Thermaltake make an excellent LARGE LAN carrier that straps on all sides. It's still heavy of course, but a shoulder strap/handle make it workable. Sometimes I drag it like a big dog on a lease. :p

But then how would it fly? Seriously tho, it looks like they had some great ideas w/ these cases. Unfortunately no one told them CM needed 2 new quiet cases. So they took the best parts and split them up. This left CM w/ 2 somewhat incomplete designs. It was at this time carrot top walked in and helped finish it up. Hence the flight theme...

...windowed version of the 690...
There's a forum where this was mentioned, but unsure of whether or not it'd have the side fan grills. Honestly the case isn't big enough to accommodate them w/ larger HSF's, so it's no biggie IMO. It might even be a separate part available for order like the 810's side window.

I see no reason this costs more than $150. It's tiny, uses 2 80mm's for the frong intake, looks worse than a LiLi PC65...why? Even the 1 egg review complains about the Titanium case being damaged, lol. For that money, you're in V2100 Plus or TJ10 territory.

I threw this up on SPCR, but here's what I'm doing for the noisy stacker's HDD cage:

The noise from my Stacker's 4in1 bay and 2 raptors have finally driven me to mod it. At first I thought about drilling some holes and using the mesh sleeve one would put on a naked PSU cable. Then I went to Fry's and noticed the P150's new cord (my bro has the old version). He then deviously devised a solution for my drive's decibel dilemma...motorcycle tube. :D

Yeah, put me down as another to be quickly intrigued by that CM 690. I'd love to see some pics of someone's setup with one of those (internal pics of course).

I ordered my 690 from Newegg today along with a new psu and some more ram for an interim upgrade.

I'll post pics of it once I get everything moved over.

It actually uses two 92mm fans with a fan controller rather than two 80mm fans. But I do agree. That is one expensive case worth only $150 yet looks kinda bad. But remember, what looks ugly to us looks beautiful to another

I got a P180B from Fry's for $80 after MIR, even though I wanted the external grommeted openings for watercooling and the extra cable management features. I couldn't see paying close to twice as much for them, however.

As someone mentioned already however, my P180B passed QC at the factory on 7/26/2007 and it has those two features. Just like the P182. The icing on top is that I much prefer the straight black of the P180B vs the "gun-metal gray" of the P182.

I am currently taking my drill press, angle grinder, vise-grips, and dremel to it. I want to fit a pair of 240mm radiators and everything else I need for dual internal WC loops. Looks very doable.

:D

What do you want to see exactly?

I'm in the process of writing a review, so if anyone wants a link, just PM me. I can say right now with much confidence that the power and reset buttons absolutely suck. :D

Inside of the case, with everything installed. (so I can space between parts, especially with a large video card in one)

could someone with a CM 690, please measure the space between the mobo and the top 120mm fans. I want to put a rad there but wonder if it will interfere with the mobo. Thanx again!
