ive got a Samsung LE26R87BDX HDTV, and my laptop has DVI out, so ive bought a
DVI-HDMI cable, and ive adjusted the resolution so that its 1360x768 ( same as my display) and ive adjusted the refresh rate to the same as my set (60Hz)

but i get a black border around the picture! and i can only adjust the picture size from 16:9 to 4:3, because the other modes are greyed out :(

has anyone had the same sort of problem using a HDTV?

thanks

ive tried setting it to a higher resolution, but i cant get that on 60Hz. and it just makes everything really small.

do you think it could be because my graphics card in my laptop, wont be that good?

i think its an ATI Radeon X1600!

I know you said "other modes are greyed out" but my guess would be to try to switch the picture mode to full or wide or wide zoom (I am sure you have different modes, I am using mine as an example)

I don't think its a problem with your graphics card.. I run 1080p set from a 9700 pro from my HTPC

are you using ati catalyst control panel? many useful settings in that program specific for HDTV viewing

cheers jacob! ive had a look in the ATI control panel, but when i go on the HDTV settings i dont know what boxes to tick etc
but either way i cant seem to get it to fit to display!
when i drop the res to 1280x720 i think, it fits to the whole screen, but its 50Hz and it looks crap basically

any further help would be great!

I think you need to use VGA...VGA supports 1360x768, but HDMI only supports HDTV res, ie, 720p, 1080i/p.

I doubt that. HDMI is just DVI + Audio, and DVI definitely supports any res you can throw at it.

im using the VGA port for my xbox 360! so im not gonna change it everytime i want to use my pc ahhaa

i just dont understand, why my display is giving me borders!

Why don't you at least test the VGA port and rule it in or out..?
HDMI is a HDTV interface which can be used for 1920x1080 on 1080 HDTV....otherwise you're at 1280x720{720p}

yeah man, i tried it thru VGA and it looks good, but i dont want to have to change the VGA cable everytime i want to play xbox/go on pc.
if you see what i mean?

what cud i do to solve this problem? a VGA splitter? KMV switch?
