Hey, here is another thread of mine about LOTRO. I really want to get it, but before I do I really want to know how it ends, Was it long? Was it fun throughout? How is the post 50 content? And so on..

It's an MMORPG... you can't "beat" it.

I already quit playing the game and I only made it to level 32. I think it's because I am just sick of MMORPGs at the moment. I basically went from being bored on WoW to LOTRO and the feeling of boredom carried over. It was definitely a great looking game and I had my fun for a while. I feel I got my money out of it, $50 for over 70 hours of game play. I suggest you find one of those buddy keys and give it a shot for yourself.

If your a casual player, you'll most likely enjoy it. If your a hardcore 12 hours a day player, once you reach level 45 you might not like it.

95% of the players are at levels 20 - 30. Which turbine are catering to with this weeks updated content "Shores of Evendom" (sp).

The few level 45 - 50 players (i've seen 3) are bored to death cause there are not enough people to raid with and there isn't any new content geared towards them (YET).

So slow down and enjoy the ride and you will love this game. besides its only 1 month old, give the devs a chance to update it and such.

I'm not too sure about the "few" level 45-50 players.

I am 49, should be 50 before Evendim on wednesday. There are at least 20 lvl 50's on the server and easily 70 45+. As for endgame, right now there are more quests than you can do on your way up to level 50. There are a couple of big instances that you can do with a fellowship, and they are introducing an instance that you need a raid to do in the Evendim update. There is crafting to level, but really for me the end game is PvMP.

Yesterday on my server we had about 30 players fighting against maybe 20 monsters. We were trying to retake a base that the monsters owned. The players couldn't handle the super elite bosses and the monsters at the same time. The fight was huge, fun, and lasted for a couple hours though. That is where the end game lies.

I have been playing since Open Beta. My characters are at levels 35, 30, 10, and 6.

True - you will never "beat" LoTRO. You may be able finish all of the quests, but I doubt it as there are currently about 2200 of them. Also, there will be free updates released on a regular basis, such as the one this week (~60 more quests and one raid instance). On top of that, there should be expansion packs released which will likely up the level cap beyond 50 and add more challenging stuff. There is MUCH more middle earth left to be developed. The current zones don't even account for 1/4 of it. If you still manage to blaze through the game at light speed, there is always PvMP. Worth every penny, IMO.

this game sounds kinda of interesting, anyone got a buddy key the could pm me?

I have a level 18 Champion on the Meneldor server, and I'm loving the game. It's definitely not a hardcore grinding game (like WoW). Experience points for quests are where it's at, as monsters and bosses don't give you a lot of XP.'

Anybody on Meneldor that wants to "friend" me, the character name is Amsolir. Also, if anybody has a few hundred silver to spare, I need to buy some iron ore. ;)

was a complete bore for me. played four characters to at least level 10 too. definitely try before you buy. i payed $24 for the game, got a founder key from a nice guy here and have time until the 24th to play it and i'd rather go elsewhere.

I have been playing since closed beta 2 and still am totally hooked. I got to level 22 in beta before the wipe and I am about to bust level 38 on my (new non beta char) Hunter tonight.. I have friends who are right around me levelwise and we fellowship up a lot now. I was all into solo play for the longest time but now am really loving being in groups. things are for sure getting better as time marches on.. cooler items, getting better at crafting, partying up with people to tackle larger mobs and such.. (BTW- the built in voice chat system rocks) Some of the best mmo playing I have done ever has happened in the last 10 days on lotro.. very fun stuff.. anyways..

I don't think you beat it really.. there are endings and new beginnings in the game as you progress in the epic quests. plus expansions are already coming out for it... I am sure Moria, Mordor and other areas will be added as expansions.. so it will continue to have new content for a while. I have been playing in 90% of my spare time and feel like I have played a TON and there is still lots to be done.. so I don't think you need to worry about the ending coming fast or anything.. anyways.. hope this helps some.

Vanguard puts this game to shame with everything from graphics to gameplay... but I canceled both... if only Vanguard had some kind of endgame, or raids or something... god damn it, what a waste of potential...

graphics?? hrm.. maybe I missed the good screenshots of vangaurd.. lotro is very pretty though.

edit: ok, Vangard looks pretty nice.. but it's still a little "simple" graphics-wise.. me thinks.. lotro's lush environment rocks.. very very pretty.

the red transparent stuff is our group doing "fellowship damage" where we all need to choose one of the four colors and based on the sequence we can do lots of damage, or get lots of health, or power.. pretty bad ass.

Anybody have a buddy key?
How are the areas? Are they open like in WoW or confined such as GW. I hate being confined in a tiny zone...

I might be able to dig up another buddy key.. the areas are HUGE open plains, rolling hills, forrests, mountains, etc.. much more open feeling that GW.. way more. GW is kind of a joke compared to lotro imo. the general wold is a large open instance that everyone is in... there ~are~ special closed instanced also.. dungeons and the like.. very cool also.. man.. I am so hooked on this game.. lol. need sleepy now. zzzz

Okay, I've been level 50 for approximately 2 weeks now. I reached rank 5 (Sergeant of the Guard) in PvMP earlier today, and I'm still loving the game.

When I originally hit 50 (and maybe a little before that), I was bored out of my mind because there weren't many people around my level at all, but now that I'm joined by many 50s, my time in the Ettenmoors (PvMP zone) is some of the most fun I've had in an MMORPG (and my repertoire includes UO, EQ, and SWG).

Endgame content primarily consists of raids and the like.... so I wouldn't recommend the game for solo players. You won't get far.
The key is to find a kinship or just some friends that you can always quest with, and the game will remain fun throughout.
At least, so far it is... lol

Wednesday is going to be fun!!!

Sweet, sounds likea fun game, how is armor and weapons? Good selection?
Personally, I like the armor and weapons, but some may not. Everything is the game is designed to be realistic with regards to the LOTR lore, so there aren't a bunch of uber-1337 spiked/glowing/sparkling things. It's much more subtle. With tomorrow's patch there will be the addition of collectable armor sets and there may be new weapons as well. Should be interesting.

That's cool, but is it like GW where you only have a limited amount of armor sets, or is it like WoW?

I think the collectable armor sets in the update are per class, so they are limited. This is a moving target though. Things will be changing a lot. Of course, there is already a ton of "non-set" armor available. Most of the good stuff is quest rewards, but the upper-tier crafters can make nice items as well. A guild member made me a set of heavy armor at level 27 and I'm still using some of it at level 35. That's how good it is.

That's pretty sweet, I think I am going to go buy the game, unless somebody can send me a buddy pass!!

yeppers.. those artisian and master crafters can make some NICE stuff.. I just broke artisian woodworker last night also.. whew.. I don't even have any recipies for it yet.. but I am ready to make some kick ass stuff. w00t.

Buddy key only lasts 10 days, after which you have to buy the game anyway.

Oh I know that, but I really do not want to be throwing $50 for something I won't like. I would like to check it out for 10 days, level a little and If I like it I will be willing to even pay monthly.

Unfortunately, I already gave mine out. If Turbine sends me another via email, you'll be getting a PM.

theres nothing simple about Vanguard graphics... I think you might have to play both games to see it, but most can see the diff in just pictures... the Vanguard graphics are nothing short of masterpiece level, but thats why the game runs so damn slow when so many people are around. They blew a ton of their budget on artists and world design. Everything is bump-mapped... I mean I dove down to the bottom of the ocean in one of the first ships built in that game and shat myself cuz they bump-pammed the damn bottom sand, seagrass, and rocks...

the raids being tested right now are improving, but still people are finding that invisibility and skeleton illusions are a must for less graphics lag...

SOE just bought the game out from Sigil and are pumping up the raids endgame with several guilds testing the systems right now... Vanguard will be re-released during the holiday season I believe. How they could pump so many millions into this game and have no decent end-game is only explainable when you walk around and find huge expansive, done and amazing dungeons hidden under ship-wrecks or in caves. You sit and kick yourself for not giving yourself the opportunity to explore everywhere possible before lvling up so high. I know I did... I was the 2nd lvl 50 monk on Hilsburry.

I cant wait for the re-launch with actual good end-game content, because right now there is no guild or raid content, just time-sinks with equipment that gets better as you progress through long-ass storylines.

The potential wasted just makes you want to fall on your knees, cry, and plead with hesus the lvl 60 cleric to 'tell you that it isnt so'...

that's cool man... I should really play it to see for reals how nice it is.. but just for the record, excessive bump mapping imo is not the key to a graphically immersive environment.. typically that just makes things look kind of shiny and bumping every little detail can be a major resource hog.. at any rate.. looking at yet more shots I found some of the wooded areas that look nice.. but I'd really have to see it in motion to get a better sense..

Anyways.. I dug up this thread which had a good post on lotro vs vanguard.. pretty interesting! FYI, I have to say lotro runs very well for me now that I did some tuning in the config file and a few other things.. it is crashy for other people tho.. tubine needs to get on that shit asap. june patch is out this week!

Runs just fine for me, I picked up a copy last night, quite a good game :) The quest to get out of dwarf noob area was awesome, hope it keeps going the same way.

The sky makes me look at it all the time. After playing WoW, with its dull and boring sky, the LOTRO sky is a welcome change.

This is looking east-ish at dawn after an overcast night in the Lone Lands.

This is a clear night sky in the elvish new player area. The bridge looks spectacular when you find it in game

This is the same bridge in the morning hours of a clear day.

I am on Landroval. which one are you on?

I have a level 21 Champion on Meneldor, and a level 7 Hunter on Firefoot. I joined Firefoot because Meneldor buckled under the PvMP load last night. I think I may dump the hunter on Firefoot and make a new one on Meneldor.

Ahh yes, meneldor! I played on that one in beta2.. the people I joined up with in beta ended up switching to Landroval for whatever reason so I made my new chars on that server.. I wish there was a way to migrate between servers.. I'd move my lev 15 champ to another one so I can play with [H] peeps. :) ...but wow that would not be easy, from an engineering standpoint.. there would have to be a lottery system for it or something.. put in a request, then if you get chosen and your name is available on the desired server then you can move.. but seems like it could be messy.. anyways..

Meneldor here as well for all of my characters. Send a tell to Toradan, Torhad, Hatchetface, or Mud if you're looking to group.

What is your dwarf's name?

By the way...the servers are back up. But you'll need to download a lot of stuff for the Shores of Evendim when you log in.

Yea, I don't remember tbh, will have to wait until update downloads.
I don't know if I would rather play wow or this still. I had a blast last night though.

It may sound petty, but.. Does anybody have an extra buddy pass code thing so I can try this out? :)
