Jack Thomson VS Microsoft

Who the hell is giving this guy enough money to actually take on one of the worlds megacorporations?:confused:
 
What is Jack going to sue them for? The rating system is voluntary, so there is no possible suit there. Selling such games to minors is illegally in only one or two states, and then it is the responsibility of the company selling the game, not the publisher.

Once again Jack is a lot of bluster without any actual substance.

Personally I think the best thing we could do is ignore everything he does, the less attention he gets the more crazy he will get trying to get attention... Until he goes way over the top and then nobody will listen to him anymore.
 
If you read a few of the other letters on the site youll see that hes looking to make money on all of this he also sent a letter to Microsoft saying they could have legal charges against them for their game Counter-Strike :p :p Wow i didnt know Counterstrike was M$ gee id always thought that it was Valve. LOL. What a douche.

EDIT: Just spotted this on the same site. Jack Thompson wants Wendy's to stop giving out Mario toys, because Manhunt 2 is coming to the Wii.
 
I think we should forget the war on terror, we should have an all out war with jack thomson. Tanks, artillery, 130,000 troops, all of it storming his back yard,. guns a-blazing.

I realize that, but taking on Microsoft by himself will take all of his time and resources to have any shot in hell. I guess he just does it for the publicity...but for what purpose?

Thats exactly it, he gets his issue into the press, i really don't think he cares if he looses, the fact is, his point of view will be shoved in the face of anyone in this country that reads the news.

So, that means there are enough clueless people in this country that think he's doing a great thing....so it increases the amount of business he gets?

I hope he get's disbarred. That man does'nt deserve to be a lawyer.

Never said it would help any business out, just said that his opinion will be shoved in front of the face of millions.

Oh, and yes there are plenty of clueless people out there, some of them are politicians, some of the average Joe's that thing the internet and games corrupt the integrity of youth.
 
because im bored, i will now break this little email down and insult it and its creator on a paragraph by paragraph basis

#1: not microsofts fault. this would be like getting suing frank miller because your kid saw 300.

#2: though its true, implying halo is realistic enough to be a sniper simulation is akin to learning how to fly an f-16 from playing ace combat 5.

#3: typical jack thomson being stupid. this isnt even worth commenting on.

#4: since when are violent games illegal??? jack truly lives in his own little world.

#5: he expects microsoft to ensure that HOW exactly??? they have no control over who buys their games. jack would have to take this up with the retailers. lets say some kid manages to buy enough painkillers to overdose. who do you sue, the manufacturer or the bastard that sold the kid the drugs???

this guy should be placed on some kind of talking probation.

Social Conservatives have been doing this for a long long time. Rap music, movies, TV, rock and roll, would be the big targets preceding video games over the last 50 years. Just slap 'think of the children' on any social conservative agenda and you'll get a good 40% of the country to support you without having to hear the rest.

But I doubt it's even about drumming up business anymore for Thompson. He has consistently failed to hold publishers and developers responsible for crimes committed by people who played their games, and baring a wholesale repeal of the 1st amendment, he will not be successful.
At this point I equate Jack Thompson with Paris Hilton or Fred Phelps, he's a professional media whore. His only discernible ability is to be so obnoxious it is impossible for key people (TV stations) to ignore him.

LOL They started that Sick-Kids charity just to stick it to him.

I’m a bit surprised this guy is still alive, I figured one of his various rants would have got him done in by now. You know, kinda like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory; a Violent Grand Theft Auto Junkie acts out on him.

Child's play was around before Jack Thompson got into the media spotlight.They did, however give $10000 to the charity and wrote on the check "because Jack Thompson wouldn't." He sued for harassment because of that.

And let's not forget about the movie industry.

Thats also a reference to a statement made by General Tony McAuliffe in the surrounded town of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge as a reply to the German surrender ultimatum.

But yes, why cant we remove Jack from the public eye? Or the human gene pool. All you have to do is force him to watch someone play CS:S or something.

"Jack Thompson is messing with Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if he just disappeared one day..."

That comment made me laugh.

He sort of reminds me of my principal in elementary school for some reason. His weekly letters to parents sounded so much like Jack Thompson's, complaining about junk that isn't really his problem.
 
Considering he hasn't won a piece of litigation he's brought against anyone (regarding the video game issue at least), I'm not to worried :D.

Selling video games of any sort to anyone is not illegal unless it fall under obscene and indecent (pr0n or something like it, in which case local laws govern). States have been passing laws to ban the sale of violent video games to minor, which have been systematically struck down by federal courts every time on 1st amendment grounds. This is very analogous to an R rated movies, the theater not selling minors tickets to them is a completely voluntary policy which is where it should be, just like walmart (I actually don't know if walmart does, but I'm using them as an example anyway) choosing to not sell M rated video games to minors, also completely voluntary.
 
in all probability we probably wont hear a single thing about this anymore, his "threats" are completly groundless and anybody with more brains than jack thompson can easily see this.

its too bad too, i would love to see the M$ legal team "off the leash" on him :D

i think the only person in this country who can claim to be a bigger attention whore than jack thomson is al gore.

Yeah we could debate in detail exactly how and why Jack Thompson doesn't have (and will never have) any real case against video games or any given Game publisher, but at the end of the day the above quote just cuts it all right to the bone; "What a noob".

Because that's precisely what he is.

If he was actually smart, he wouldn't issue threats to the largest corporation in the gaming market.

Microsoft makes more money than I even want to imagine.
