The reason this douche is attacking Microsoft for Counterstrike, is that MS distributed one of the versions of CS for the XBOX.

Anyhow I think his motivation is purely financial, he's probably hoping that enough companies pay him a great deal to shut up, maybe he is hoping that these companies would rather just pay him off instead of go to court.

If video games made children/teenagers violent, wouldn't he be dead already?

I think he has a point. Seung-Hui had masted Counter-Strike to the point that he was able to play with owning the game, a gaming device or anybody seeing him. He transcended our simple concepts of interacting with a game using our artificial material world and was able to enter the game at will. He was the Neo of De_Dust.

Did Thompson ever go after Gears of War? That game is much more graphic than Halo, and yet it gets passed by?

Considering he hasn't won a piece of litigation he's brought against anyone (regarding the video game issue at least), I'm not to worried .

Selling video games of any sort to anyone is not illegal unless it fall under obscene and indecent (pr0n or something like it, in which case local laws govern). States have been passing laws to ban the sale of violent video games to minor, which have been systematically struck down by federal courts every time on 1st amendment grounds. This is very analogous to an R rated movies, the theater not selling minors tickets to them is a completely voluntary policy which is where it should be, just like walmart (I actually don't know if walmart does, but I'm using them as an example anyway) choosing to not sell M rated video games to minors, also completely voluntary.

I hate Jack Thompson so much. Any person capable of independent thought will realize that everything he spews is nothing more than self-righteous rhetoric. People like him make me ashamed to be a Republican.

I figured I would shed a little light on his most probable angle from a legal perspective. You are correct that there is nothing illegal about selling games to minors (at least in any state that I know of), but I can't imagine that is really what Thompson is going after.

The only argument that he could possibly be successful on is that MS is negligent in even CREATING the games since they know minors will be buying them and that leads to violence (and that is a HUGE stretch). His chances of winning a case like this are basically zero, BUT if he could prove that MS knew kids would be playing these games AND that MS knew that playing these games made kids violent, then there is a slight chance that he could have legitimate negligence claim (though he would have trouble proving MS had a duty in the first place).
