I'm throwing together a 2u system. I haven't decided on motherboard yet, but the general parms of what I'm looking for are thus.

Built in MB graphics
2g ddr2 ram
athlon x2 4800+
2x 250g seagate SATA II
1x 75g WD raptor

How much power do I need for this?

Without a video card, you shouldn't need much at all. I would get something "decent" though in case you buy one down the road. Anything 500W will have no problem with your current list.

They have this cool thing on www.tigerdirect.com
that will tell you what kinda of power supply you will need for what i am not sure where it is on the site though but I know it is there probably under power supplies lol

My 4200 X2's with 2 Gigs of Memory, single SATA II hard drive, onboard graphics, etc, etc pulls 140 watts from the wall full load folding 24/7.
So a 300 watt PSU should be fine.
If you want to run a high end graphics card look towards 500 watts.

Luck .......... :D

how accurate is this? i put my specs in and it says id need 477w. would a 480w psu from antec for example work or should i step up to a 5-600w one?

I'd leave some headroom in case you add a hard drive or fan or some such.
I still say get the corsair 520 and be done with it.

for my system it says 575watts:eek:

for some reason i dont believe it cause it worked just fine with a TT 480 i had a few months back.

For my new system it says I need 483watt. Got a 500watt power supply so I should be fine :p, but will upgrade to a better psu later on.

Are you referring to that Raidmax PSU in your sig? Why don't you just light off a string of firecrackers in your case?

OP: Bbq speaks the truth.

I don't either. It says I need 799W for my main system (see sig) and it runs fine on a Seasonic 650w. The 650w never even blinks an eye when I have all 4 cores at 100%
