Whats the extra $200 for again?
Either way, where are you? In a games forum. I'll voice my opinion, thank you.
You do realize that your comparing the Tekken 6 intro movie snapshot with a in game snapshot?;)
And I wouldn't invest to much time thinking tekken 6 will look like the in game shot above when it's completed. The team behind Tekken/Soul calibur rarely disappoint when it comes to the visuals on the final product.

The funny thing is that today I only bought one launch title. Motorstorm. After playing it I think it's pretty slick and will enjoy working my way through the races. I can't remember the last time I found a driving game so viscerally satisfying. The rest of the launch lineup looked completely blah. The situation was no different for the 360 when I got that either, in fact there has been very little that I've bothered with since launch. Same deal with the Wii. The next-gen games are slow in coming and mostly it's just cross-platform, franchise crap.

I did however pick up Okami since it released after I gave away my PS2 to a local school. I spent 2 hours playing Motorstorm, then tried out Okami which I've been playing for about 6 hours. I have to say that it is one of the most engaging, beautfilly presented and well paced games I've had the joy to play in years. To think that I was playing the latest Zelda on my Wii when this thing was sat on a shop shelf beating Zelda at its own game 100 times over. If you haven't already tried it then you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy. It's just spectacular and puts all this next-gen crap to shame!

"no fanbo*" remarks yet based on some pictures you call the launch a disaster already? Nice.

Kotaku has done nothing but go viciously after PS3 since its launch. Sony hates them, they hate sony. Ill take it with a grain of salt.

There were other Uk retailers speaking that they hadnt seen such demand for any console as they have for the PS3 in some news posts a week ago.

Actually Kotaku is run by actual respected game journalists who have a great deal of journalistic integrity, and they don't hate sony at all. But in the feverish fnaboy world, anyone who says a word against your favorite console is a blind hater.....

I havent read kotaku as much as many have, however I never feel anyone is beyond bias. Kotaku is made of many people and thier views can differ.

why doesnt everyone just shut up and wait for some hard fact sales figures.

We won't get sales figures from Europe. They're not released publically.

Isn't Kotaku a blog?

I wonder how many of them actually have journalism degrees... ;)

It's a blog mostly run by two game journalists who are paid full time writers for newspapers covering gaming and technology.

From wikipedia re: Brian Crecente, kotaku's editor and main poster:

Brian Crecente, sometimes credited as Brian D. Crecente or Crecente, is a staff writer and columnist for the Rocky Mountain News. He is also creator and moderator of Red Assed Baboon a website about "gamers on games" and is the current editor of Kotaku, which focuses on video game culture. It is a Gawker Media affiliate.

Crecente graduated from Anne Arundel Community College in May 1992, then received a Bachelor of Arts in "Journalism, News-Editorial sequence" and another in English for "American/British literature" from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Crecente has written for Geek.com, Gamezilla, Extended Play, Access Magazine and Jester.com as a freelance writer. His print credits include the University of Maryland Diamondback, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The Palm Beach Post and recently he has covered the crime beat at The Rocky Mountain News since February 2001. In January 2006 he was named the video game writer for the Rocky Mountain News, ending his 11-year career as a police reporter.

As a newspaper reporter Crecente was selected to attend IRE and NICAR's 2003 Computer-Assisted Reporting Boot Camp and went on to write or assist with a number of high-profile computer assisted stories including a manual recount of the 2000 presidential election, an analysis of Denver's police-involved shootings and the discovery of a south Florida speedtrap.

As a game journalist Crecente has broken a number of major stories including being the first to detail the specs for the Xbox 360, interviewing the creator of a game based on the Columbine shooting, the FTC's investigation into the Hot Coffee scandal, the president of the ESA quitting and was temporarily blackballed by Sony.

Crecente served on the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards judges panel and is a judge for the Independent Games Festival. In Oct. 2006, he was named as one of Gaming's Top 50 Journalists.

They had a lot more here in Euroland than they did in the states, that probably has something to do with it. 220k in Britain with 60m people vs 440k with 300m in the states. The other 800k that went out in Europe will really only sell in the top 5 Euro economies before the price drop, its just too expensive for most of the others.

You also should probably factor in the fact people get paid monthly in Europe and people always get paid between the 26-31st so it was a really stupid day to release it.

I don't think it did so bad tbh, I'm enjoying mine whilst I wait for my 360 to come back from repair :)

My wii I haven't turned on since the first week I had it :-/

Nice spin homie. Why dont you follow the link of the pic to see where its from?
PS3 IGN.

Eh, every company loves to hype up their game with touched up photos. But in this case, I don't think Namco wanted people to believe that promo shot was actually in-game. Cases such as Microsoft's Amp photoshop fiasco and Ubisoft's pre-release shots for the Wii are ones that concern me.

Here's an example. Blazing angels for the Wii from Ubisoft.

Dude stop depressing me about the Wii's graphics. :(

I agree with your point and also want to add something:

Why is everyone getting pissed at Sony for that? Sony isn't the dev for that game...

Lol because certain people have to blame sony for everything.

aznpxdd: Good job, I wanted to do that earlier, but was too lazy ;)

And?

The other day PS3 IGN had Frontlines: Fuel of War coverage, but all the shots and footage were from the Xbox 360 version of the game. They've also done this with the new Stuntman game.

The Tekken 6 gameplay footage + pics are all from the Arcade version (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1158435). I'm not saying it's going to look substantially better on the PS3, but I still think it's unfair as well as completely ignorant to compare a PS3 promo shot to an Arcade shot.

I think the hate is less towards sony, and more towards ps3 fans who post the stills of the cinematics and say "omg look how good this game is, it blows away the 360". Can't blame sony for that, but I've seen that very screenshot with similar !!!!!!ish commentary.

Please compare the PS3 fan's saying "this blows away xbox360" to the Xbox360 fan's who says "Ps3 sucks" I would say a ration of 1:50 at least. :p

...because one is true and the other isn't. It's much easier for people to see the truth (That the PS3 isn't some "next" next-gen) than for people to delude themselves into thinking the Xbox 360 is a generation behind.

As soon as the PS3 starts showing graphics and gameplay BETTER than the 360, people will stop saying that crap.

The problem is that ain't happening. When the original xbox launhed, the PS2 never had a game that looked as good as the original Halo. Then came Halo 2, Splinter Cell, Ninja Gaiden, etc.

PS3 had a year on the 360. RIGHT NOW it should be showing me games that dwarf the 360. Again, it ain't happening. Sony listened to their own hype instead of listening to gamers. Microsoft may have its problems with quality control but sure as shit they're not ignoring the gamers.

I don't know about that, Motorstorm at 1080p looked pretty good to me when I saw it on the TV's at Virgin Megastore.

And when you say "had a year on the 360". In terms of launch date, thats true. But technologically they are not that far seperated. The chip design and the core system specifications would have been nailed down quite a while ago.

That being said, I take your point and maybe they should have thought about how to make the best impression with their shiney new console.

The problem with being the last release is that many people just couldnt be bothered to wait, so ended up buying a 360 and/or a Wii.

Generally, I think its the price point thats killing them at the moment. Not much else. That and maybe (in the UK) the lack of a major football (soccer) title. Release PES or FIFA along side your console...and the beer swilling, football playing/supporting masses in the UK would be snapping the PS3 up in their droves.

The point he's making is who gives a goddamn?

If the 360(and/or Wii, for that matter) is so much better, then go and play it and ignore the PS3. What's the point in rambling incessantly about a sucky console that you don't even own or plan on buying?

I was in London for the PS3 launch. I went to a local game store and asked if people were as crazy as us Americans were about buying a PS3, and he said No, everyone had a chance to pre order. I passed a lot of game stores and some virgin record stores over in London, and I was waiting to see lines, but low and behold nothing.

It could be that the fucking thing cost 450 Pounds. 900$ American dollars.

The 360 is a generation behind in manufacturing quality if nothing else. :p

PS3 vs. X360 ... this conversation is probably never going to stop as long as these 2 consoles are the most current consoles out.... Theres always debate about the most recent console.

N64 vs. PS1

DC vs. PS2 vs. XBOX

SNES vs. Genesis

So as much as anyone trys to prevent or stop console battles, its not going to stop... people are made up of opinions, not everyone has the same opinion, and when you come to a forum where people post their opinions, their not always going to be the same.

I just wish that people would stop taking the console wars and turning them into personal battles. Private messaging needs to be utilized more.

I don't really understand console wars though... Seems like most debate is fueled by ones passion for "their" console. I guess no one wants to see what they enjoy so much "fail".... but I personally don't see either Sony or Microsoft "failing" nor would I want one of the 2 to fail. I like competition.. keeps quality of products at a higher standard which is better for me the consumer.... anyways, I guess you guys can get back to how much you like your console(s) up your butt.....

I'll never understand this crazy logic behind supporting one company/console over the other ones.
I've been gaming since the early 80's and even when I've been a poor college student I still never had any ill-will toward the systems I couldn't buy at the time.

The fuckers have been encouraging this behavior. I remember loving the Sega Genesis, but hating the company because of their commercials that ridiculed the Gameboy, made the SNES out to be slow (Blast Processing FTW!!), and one where a guy shot an SNES, as if it were a clay pigeon. I still love Sega consoles, but their marketing angle was a fucking disaster and it did affect my future purchases.

Nintendo never came out swinging, and I respect them for that.

Sony is taking the old Sega route, and its bringing them some well-deserved hate.

:p

I'll give you that. Microsoft really screwed the pooch with reliability. Sony did a damned fine job of making their system reliable this time around.

On this subject... I'm in the UK and went on my usual grocery shop this weekend.

In Tesco and Asda they both had at least 10 PS3 and absolutely no 360, Wii, DS. Quite a big presence in Tesco with a large centre of isle display. Spoke to a customer service guy who said they've sold "a couple" and that they had no-where near as many people turn up for the launch night as they did for the 360 and Wii.

Make of that what you will.

Not everyone is made of money? Not everyone can afford what they want? I would like to own all 3 and a whole lot more games than I do now.... X360 and Wii are a lot cheaper than the PS3... if I had to budget one of the 3 consoles into my life, PS3 would probably be the last choice.

;)

Maybe they were all stolen. Or damaged. Or maybe they spontaneously combusted. God help us all if they were actually sold.

Last weekend I went into my nearest Game store (in Norwich, UK) and had a chat about the launch, same story as everywhere else. Plenty more stock than the 360/Wii launches, but hardly any demand for it. While I was there someone asked about it but she laughed when heard the price. The guy I spoke to there said he felt bad that they were pushing customers to buy them, apparently no-one cared about HD movies and that's the only thing he thinks the PS3 has going for it. Right now I'd happen to agree with him, Motorstorm and Resistance are both great games but they're not worth anywhere near $1080 (which is what a PS3, 2 games, and an HDMI cable will run to over here).

Sold out... or just didn't have any? I know a lot of Asda / Tesco stores don't sell the newest consoles until a while after release. Of course, it could be that Doncaster is the hotbed of PS3 buying in the UK! :D
