Annual Folding@Home bigadv EOL 5th Anniversary Challenge

Asus TUF 4070 Ti Super. The 4080 Super is almost certainly the better option, but if I waited I couldn't use the new hardware on the race. As it is, the Ti Super is dramatically faster than the 1080ti that I was using on that box.
What's your PPD? Folding LAR hasn't got one yet.
The 4000 series looks tempting but my wallet is empty.

My guess is 4070 Ti Super in Linux should yield close to 17-18M PPD?

12m ppd so far in Windows 11. I’m hoping it’s going to pickup to something higher on a different WU
That's interesting. Was hoping it would be a bit higher. I have a normal 4070 Ti already and 12m is about where it's at on average. I was thinking about swinging by Microcenter and grabbing that same Asus TUF 4070 Ti Super. Considering the new cards are using AD103 I was hoping they would perform closer to the 4080 they are cut down from.

Overclocking is the way! I OC my 3060 Ti +150 mhz on core, +200 memory and cut GPU power to 80%. I get between 3.4-4.2 million/PPD depending on WU.

I’ve only seen 1 WU on it so far, so I’m hoping 12m is the low and the high is closer to 17m. I’ll know more once it’s had some time to run.

Clearly not. His 3060ti is doing the same work lol
I'm willing to guess that mobile chip is matching that 3060ti while sipping a lot less power in the process though.

I know most normal people with one PC could care less about power draw, but when you have a bunch of machines power efficiency starts getting important.

I say this as I'm sweating in a room with three 3090s running 😅

Oh for sure. My 1080's are definitely hotter as well. Although this mobile GPU is a full power 140w card.

Just checked another WU - 15.4m PPD. I've got too many systems attached to my account for a clean reporting for PPD, but I've been around 30m ppd for most of the month, so I'm hoping the Ti Super pushes me up at 45m (ish) ppd by the end of the week.

Theoretically, the 4070 Ti Super should get around 15 million at the top end and maybe 11-12 million on the low end based on SM count compared to 4080.

This won't work unless you change your team number to 33.

Check your Configuration preferences. Select the type of work you prefer.

Weekend is here. Time to add more folding power and do some catching up!

At Day 2.5, the five teams manage to reach a combined score of 20% of the world daily aggregate output. Keep it up!

I want to know how the fuck you're getting 4m a day on a 1080 lol. My two are lucky to do 1.3m a day each.
He was just teasing us with one outlier WU. If you fold tens of WUs, you will get one or two outliers with insane PPD.

He ran project 12112 and if you look at this folding lar website you can see insane PPD: https://folding.lar.systems/projects/folding_profile/12112

You cannot pick and choose the exact project number in your work preference but just a general one like covid, cancer, alzheimer, etc

Also those projects with small number of atoms are usually handed out to "lower performing" gpu. You don't see discrete 3000 or 4000 series in that link.

Every once in a great while my 1050Ti will get work units which are about 1.2 million PPD. That's more than 3x it's normal output.

auntjemima , you barely hold onto 100th spot in the top 100 contributors for today. Moar gpu power....

Wasn’t a tease so much as I was literally asking myself the same question.
Congrats to the 5 teams and the outstanding numbers being put up.
That's ok, we didn't take it that way. Love you.

I thought about buying a PS3 to get moar PPD! Also breaking 10k and 20k PPD!
Good memory, I remember the PS3 F@H client like it was yesterday, and it would get 1500 PPD with the PS3's cut down Cell CPU.
At the time in the mid to late 2000s that was pretty impressive, and I remember eventually the NVIDIA Series 9 9500GT would output exactly 1500 PPD circa 2009 then matching the PS3.

FOLDING ON THE SONY PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3)

The PS3 is a powerful system for scientific calculation. In 2007, it was more powerful than CPUs, but less powerful than GPUs, and took a middle path between scientific flexibility and speed. Other benefits are the uniformity of PS3s (all have the same processor, GPU, RAM, etc) and the ability to stream data quickly to the GPU, allowing for real time visualization of the protein. Since it’s induction, over 15 million PS3 users have participated in FAH, in total donating more than 100 million computational hours.
The PS3 system was a game changer for Folding@home, as it opened the door for new methods and new processors, eventually also leading to the use of GPUs. We have had numerous successes in recent years. Specifically, in a paper just published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, we report on tests of predictions from earlier Folding@home simulations, and how these predictions have led to a new strategy to fight Alzheimer’s disease. The next steps, now underway at Stanford, are to take this lead compound and help push it towards a viable drug. It’s too early to report on our preliminary results there, but we’re very excited that the directions set out in this paper do appear to be bearing fruit in terms of a viable drug (not just a drug candidate).
Following discussions with Sony, we retired the PS3 client on November 6, 2012. Please see the PS3 FAQ for more information about the PS3 client.
