Need help with hall effect sensor

I have a very limited amount of electronics knowledge, so please bare with me. I am buidling a tach from various components to sense spindle speed on a piece of equipment. I got a Red Lion Ditak 5000 for the display part, and have robbed some hall effect sensors from some old floppy drives. Can...

Its not a CNC, its manual. But, there are CNC conversion kits for them. The mill is from Homier dot com. The Speedway mini mill drill. Plans to convert to CNC can be found at http://www.stirlingsteele.com/millplans.html . Just do a google on CNC mini mill conversion and you will get a bunch of...

OT! Dont know where to post! Electronics Help

I want to build a spindle tachometer with a digital LED display. I just bought a mini lathe and a mini mill. I would like to have the display and controller mounted on my wall, and sensor wires running to each machine that optically detect the speed of the spindle. I can buy a kit for around 70...

FS/FT Excellent case for WC Setup! Lots of Pics!

Started this project and decided to work on my Cheiftec full tower instead. It is a Compaq Proliant tower that has been partially modded. I have put in mobo tray and made the mount for the PSU. My intent was to water cool this rig, but right now I am strapped. Dimensions are 12.75 wide by 21...

Added Antifreeze To System And Got Tons Of Foam!

Sure it happens anyway. The question is when. Run dual identical systems, in identical environment. One with antifreeze, just a 10 per cent solution, and one without. See which one corrodes first. Also, see which one gets some forms of growth first in it as well.

Added Antifreeze To System And Got Tons Of Foam!

Yes, it is one of its purposes. It's sole purpose is not entirely anti freeze, it states right on the bottle corrosion inhibitor. If you have a cast iron block, copper rad, and aluminum water pump with steel impeller, eventually you will get corrosion.

Has anyone tried this oil cooler?

Nice and thin. But where are you going to mount it? One of your side panels? You could probably do 2 rows of 3 fans, run em at 5 volts for dead silence. Hell, you might even be able to run it totally passive. Since it has copper tubes, no worries on corrosion.

    new swiftech stuff

The vertical lift height at which a pump can no longer deliver a liquid, basically, a figure that equates to overcoming resistance. So if 1 pumps shutoff or head point is 10 ft, and the other pumps head is only 5 feet, the first pump is better able to overcome resistance in your loop. I saw some...

    new swiftech stuff

What amazes me, and I am still trying ot grasp it, is the minimal amount of flow that most systems are truly seeing. I bet alot of people think that if they have a 350 gph pump, that that is what they are flowing. I believe that these ratings are most like with 0 head. The waterblock tests I...

kicking the 2-302 up a notch

You are probably right, but also, with any slight pressure difference in the fans, the air pressure would be different on the different sections of the rad. Dont know if it matters, but it should at least let the pressure between the fans and the rad equalize across the face of the rad.

    Tygon, Clearflex, or DD

3-3/4 inches is the bend radius. Go to McMaster Carr, page 83. The part number you want is 5231K239. I just bought 25 section from them. That way I have some left to change my tubing in a year or another build.

whats so hard about preventing algae growth?

Why not just run a few drops of algecide? Just like you put in a humidifer. I think some antifreeze products have algecide in them. I have seen 1 picture of a cpu block that apparently someone was running water alone, and it definitely had growth in it. I have not heard of this being a problem...

    Barb has slow leak...advice please

I always had this fear of the tape shreading and tiny pieces floating around inside my system plugging up one of my blocks. The threads making up tend to cut the tape up in to pieces. Thats why I picked the goop.

    Barb has slow leak...advice please

You can get a white silicone/teflon and oil based mixture in the plumbing dept of any home center in a tube. It does not sit up hard, but it works well. Just smear a little on the male threads and then make it back up.

My bargain find for a wc case. Pic heavy!

Yeah, the last one I did I had to change the standoffs to fit, as well as open up the back for a swappable io port. Guess thats why we call it modding. I just took an old dead mobo with 1 pci card and placed it inside there for a fixture, and started marking holes and drilling and cutting. I...

A peice of debris in my loop! Problem for pump?

Ya gave it away. He must be a young feller or somehting to not know about Murphys Laws. I agree with other posts, though. If it is not adversey effecting his temps, let it be. Otherwise, Murphy might just compound he problem.

A peice of debris in my loop! Problem for pump?

I was talking to Murphy about this and he said there is no doubt about it, it is now caught in your cpu block and restricting flow there. Murphy has yet to tell me wrong my entire life! Hope it breaks free and settle back in your res again.

Swishing or squirting sound from my system

I think laying them on their sides, faces, backs whatever seems to work the best. Air can get trapped in tiny pockets pretty easily, especially the top of a rad. try laying it on one side for a little bit, and then the other. Just make sure your res is full when you do it so you are not scuking...

lets just say i had a noisy pump.. could i..

Are you complaining about pump noise, or vibration from the pump that is causing noise? I have a mag 3 sitting on top of 2.5 inch thick foam that you cannot hear with the sides off from 3 feet away. I would not totally enclose the pump, too much heat build up. I would submerse it before I did that.

Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus and 4 pin connector?

Just traded for a new in the box KT600 Dragon Plus version 1.0, and was looking at the board and did not see any 4 pin P4 power connector. Is this right? I ahve never seen any XP board that did not have this connector.

    Leak Testing

That is how I did it. That way, all hoses, blocks etc are in the place they are going to be in when you power the mobo up. No wiggling around after the leak test. I have seen some setups where people leak test it out of the case entirely, and then put it back in. To me, this is not the best way.

    Heatercore shroud distance

You can get a sheet of 26 gauge sheet steel from Home Depot for around 4 buck. If you got a vise, a few c clamps and 2 good boards 2 foot long, you can bend it. I did this and it worked great. The way the shroud is mounted, with the wing nuts and washers, I can actually move it in and...

    Help with Gurgling

By tilting it around you are dislodging any trapped air pockets. It should not take too many times of doing this. When you topped your res off this time, did the gurgling seem to be less than before?
  36. 2

    Help with Gurgling

Sounds like its still circulating air. When I got my current build completely bled, the gurgling stopped, now it is dead silent. I had to tilt the case in all different directions to get the last bit of air out of the system. Just sitting upright did not cut it.

Painting tips - overposted thread, but this time i need to ask again

Are you using a clear lacquer on top of colored enamel? I think this may be your problem, mixing enamels and lacquers, but I am not sure. Try spraying a colored paint in lacquer, then spray you lacquer clearcoat over it and see what happens.
