Plasma is still beautiful and it's image quality rivals any modern tech!

What exactly is your job besides making balloon animals? :)

After a few months with this setup I've decided to permanently remain with this as my daily driver for gaming. I game about 15-20 hours a week and have seen a very small increase in my power bill, but we are talking an extra 15.00 to 20.00 dollars a month. That includes running the A/C to keep the room at 72 degrees at all times while running all 3 monitors. There has been "zero" sign of burn in! I keep a 32in 4k VA Panel on my working desk for anything outside of gaming and movies. With this combo I've never been happier with my pc gaming. An RTX 4080 keeps all of my games at a locked 60fps allowing for the smoothest gaming performance this side of a crt monitor. Zero input lag, combined with the crt like motion makes this the "ultimate" gaming experience for "MY PERSONAL USE CASE"! Image quality is outstanding and nothing beats it for dark room, SDR gaming; that includes OLED! My last OLED panel was an LG C2 43in panel and it crushed blacks no matter what settings I used. My plasmas have superior shadow detail and zero black crush while having 90% of the OLED blacks. OLED is better for HDR but for everything else I'll keep my plasmas. I have just one more wish for the future and that is 1x5 monitor support from Nvidia. I intend to add 2 60in OLED panels for my extreme left and right panels for an even greater level of immersion while keeping heat and weight to a minimum. The crushed blacks of the OLED panels won't detract so much from the gaming experience, being on the outer edges of my fov while still providing added immersion, increased resolution and smooth motion. That said, NVIDIA get on the ball and give me a 5080 for 2k or less, along with 5 monitor support and I'm in for another generation. :)

This looks pretty good looking @ pictures of portrait plasmas on my UW 57" VA screen!
There should be a warning........may induce feelings

Lol! Be careful.....may induce feelings of wanton desire for large plasma screens. 😉

Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition @ 7080x3840@60hz just before getting monitors set up on desk and getting positioned to minimize bezels. Screens had yet to be calibrated at the time of this photo.

Under Defeat for Sega Dreamcast on Retroarch
A single TH-60PF50U would be ideal for retrogaming; especially in portrait mode. You can either emulate or use the gamut of I/O on the back of the unit. The unit provides DVI-D, VGA, HDMI, BNC and COMPONENT allowing for use with the gamut of retro consoles. I personally intend to track down another unit specifically to play vertical shooters and other vertically oriented MAME arcade games on. :)

This is pretty close to my own experience and why I gave up my oled. The plasma and it's big brother crt have the most lifelike image ever produced. Oled is great for HDR and brighter than "dark room" watching but for everything 1080p and below it's plasma or crt. That said, oled and it's derivatives with BFI is the future and that's a good thing.

I'll never forget the 1st time I booted up Crysis on my 8800gt and q6600. That first view with the sunrise as that music kicks in right before u take out that radio jammer. 30fps with everything on medium to high. 1280x1024 on an IBM c220p trinitron with black case. Good times!

Mmm.... Kuro. I'm honestly thinking of getting a 65 inch plasma. Our 51 inch is a little too small for our big living room.
I hear ya, my 42" Panny Plasma from 2008 is getting a little too small the past few years. Just can't bring myself to get a 55" or 65" LG OLED yet. Gonna just wait til it dies and then get one from Costco.

The only reason. And the sole only reason that plasma rivals modern tech is because of how outlandishly shitty OLED panels are. Outside of that, plasma is obsolete.

I apologize but in what way do you think you just made a case against plasma? To paraphrase, "all the new tech is crap and that's the only reason plasma still looks good." I swear I lost a few brain cells reading your post.

"Modern tech" does not mean "All new tech". Words have specific meanings, and you were unable to follow the meaning of the words I used. Here's a protip for you. I said what I meant. Not what you thought I meant to say.

I think what he's getting at is that OLED isn't really a great technology, all things considered. Contrast is good and pixels can fully switch off. Hurray! Other than that, and the power savings from OLED, it's not really that great of a tech when you think about how little it brings to the table, especially when comparing it against older emmisive technologies. If plasma was allowed to have development continued, there's no reason we wouldn't have wide gamut, 4K displays. The Samsung displays were well on their way to competing with OLED on brightness, and they didn't need sample-and-hold to do it.

Had he framed his argument in the manner you did, the OP would get no argument from me.
