Mark Zuckerberg's philanthropy venture the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative has made its first major investment in a start up that trains and recruits software developers in Africa.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative LLC, created by Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, led a $24 million Series B funding in Andela, the startup said on Thursday. Alphabet Inc's GV, previously known as Google Ventures, was also part of the funding round.

He's a great Philanthropist can't wait for his next humanitarian effort.

Great more Nigerian email scams now. And better trained.

So instead of just spam, we'll have to start worrying about viruses, trojans, spyware and other junk coming from Africa instead of just Russia and China.

Am I the only one who is freaked at the thought of Google and Facebook getting together on anything?

Yeah, and the 'initiative' seems somewhat duplicitous; seeking out and paying for future employee training in regions the companies know nothing about but would undoubtedly like to get a foothold in to somehow monetize. The new philanthropy model is win-win, not won-win?

Culturally and socially Africa is so far behind the west, that it's not logical to teach them software development. Unless your goal for them is to move to the west and work there as immigrants since software development is not an useful trade in Africa currently, or in the near future.
