I know the price ranges from $400-$1200 on these but I am debating on what to get. I can get the HP for $375 delivered, the Dell for $770 delivered and not sure on the HP, list is $1200 on their site, but I am sure if I call I might be able to get them around $1000 delivered (hopefully including tax).

I would love the extra resolution of the bigger screens but the U2711 is hard to justify because its 16:9 and put next to a ZR24w isn't that much bigger, just a little wider, hard to spend double the price for just a small improvement in screen size. the upgrade from $770 to $1000 is easier to swallow though because its back to 16:10 and a large increase in size (small in resolution though). Of course many will say I could go with 3 ZR24w instead of the 1 30" panel... I wish I could but don't currently have the space for it (and won't for 3-4 years).

I will use it for photo editing and gaming, have a 24" TN panel right now, so they are all improvements but is it worth double or triple the cash to go to the Dell 27" or HP 30"?
How much better do games look on those?

where the heck are you finding a u2711 for under $800????

Anyway, the thing you're not considering the dell is the extra pixels. I would need 2 24" monitors at 1920x1200 to make it worthwhile over a 27" 2560x1440

Where can u get the HP for $375 delivered? I'm interested in picking one up

a friend of mine works for a Business to Business reseller and will sell me the things at his cost...

For HP, Buy.com had it for $395 (now $405 I think) and they have 4% bing cash back, so its as cheap as he can sell it to me for! Free shipping too.

The Dell is really marked up, their cost is not double a 24" monitor but their selling price is... you should be seeing discounts from Dell on that after the novelty wears off in the next month or two.

So if you could get the HP for $1000 would you choose that over the Dell for $770? I will be sitting 3 feet from the monitor so I might not need a 30" one, maybe too big? but would love the greater resolution.

Well, the new revision of HP LP3065 comes with H-IPS panel and it's suppose to be better then the older revision based on S-IPS.

I've got a 30" LCD and can tell you nothing compares to its size and resolution. The U2711 is a nice monitor, but is quite a bit smaller than a 30". Look through the last 10 pages of the LCD pictures thread. There's an excellent pic of a Dell 3008 next to a U2711.
