I'm in the market for a new monitor; I do some hobby photography work, and also some software development, and of course the normal browsing, office stuff. The main spec need to be around 22-24", 16:10 resolution, min of 1920x1200, and would prefer IPS (not critical).

At this point the choice is pretty much narrowed down to the ZR24W. The Dell U2410 is also in the mix but it's current $500 is well over my budget, and well over the HP, with little added value for my needs -- in fact the wide color gamut seems like it might be a slight disadvantage for my needs.

So, before pulling the trigger I'm looking for some expert perspectives:
  1. I think HP's policy for replacements is the same for refurbished and new -- looks like they treat the two the same. What is HP's record for resolving any issues? From reading around, the general consensus seems positive, but wanted some specifics.
    • How many dead-pixels before they consider a replacement?
    • What's their approach to resovling tint or other issues?
    • How is shipping handled in cases where a return is needed?
    • I've read about HP providing on-site service -- does that require a business purchase, or is that specific to the type of monitor?
  2. I can buy a new ZR24W for around $400, or I refurbished for currently $339, direct from HP. From research, it looks like the HP sells pretty consistently for $400. Does that occasionally dip, or it's basically static?
  3. Although the Dell is out of price range, it seems they have 'frequent' discounts. Does HP go through periods where they offer discounts as well? Usually yearly, or more frequent?
  4. Lastly I tend to use a KVM switch. I recently changed to an IOGear GCS72U USB KVM. Running on my existing monitor, quality seems pretty good. The switch seems to support the 1900x1200 resolution of the HP. Does anyone have any experience using the HP with this switch, or with using KVM switches in general? Worst case if quality degrades too much I can just run two monitors direct, and avoid pushing the HP signal through the switch.

Any advice appreciated.

I think the monitor generally stays at around $400. I remember seeing MacMall had it once for $300, I believe? Other than that, the price remains relatively the same.
 
HP replaced my panel and all I had was one stuck pixel. It was a 5 minute phone call, and 24 hours later I had a tech in my house. I'm still blown away by that.

Anyone used this with a KVM?
